    Has anyone been "preparing"?

Well, my surgery is scheduled for 11/03. 2 more days. I can't stand it! My Doc requires a 2 week full liquid pre-op diet. It has been hard, to say the least, but it is good preparation for days to come. I have lost 17lbs so far with two more days to go. I wanted to make the 20lb mark but am not sure if I'll quite make it. None the less, 17 lbs in less than 2 weeks is nothing short of a miracle for me. Everybody hang in there. All of this will pay off soon.
  2. Hey Ms. Krista, How are you? Thanks for the friend invite. Congrats on your surgery. How have things been going this past two weeks?

    Gallbladder

I would suggest you research the relationship between gallbladder complications and weight loss so that you can make an informed decision. I'm not exactly sure what the relationship is but I know that gallbladder complications almost always follow rapid or large amounts of weight loss. If memory serves me correctly my aunt who had gastric bypass several years ago said that the removal of her gallbladder was automatically a part of the procedure. At any rate, it let's you know there's a definite correlation. I was able to lose 70 pounds on my own a few years ago and sure enough, "BAM" out of nowhere I started having gallblladder attacks. It is excrutiatingly painful. I think I'd rather have a baby. I had to have an emergency gallbladder removal. I was one of the lucky ones, I didn't have any stones lodged in my common bile duct. That would have been a whole other additional surgical procedure. Check the web for info. and stats and also consult with your surgeon. If your surgeon is offering to do it at the same time as your band, it may not be a bad idea. Let us know what you find out and what you decide.

    They Scared Me!!

You're right to be scared. I'm a nurse and you would be surprised at the number of wrong surgery/wrong surgery site indicents that occur. You should definitely call your surgeon and confirm and then confirm again what type of surgery you are having. Then on the day of your surgery you want to confirm again before they put you under anesthesia. Nowadays, surgery teams do what is called a time out before they begin surgery to confirm the correct patient, correct procedure, and correct site. It's getting increasingly harder to perfom the wrong surgery with this added precaution but yes, it still happens. So call your surgeon and let him confirm for you as many times as you need to feel comfortable. BTW the NG tube is the tube they place through your nasal passage and down into your stomach to suction the blood and drainage that collects in your stomach to give your "STAPLED" stomach time to heal. This is definitely a procedure that goes along with gastric bypass and not lapband. So I'll say it again. CALL YOUR SURGEON AND CONFIRM! The writing on the abdomen with a sharpie is funny, maybe a good idea. Good luck!

    When is your surgery?

Hi everyone, My surgery is scheduled for November 3rd with Dr.Rabaza in Miami, FL. I'm so excited I can hardly wait. My mom is still getting her clearance but hopefully she will get approval in time and we'll get banded on the same day. Good luck to everyone.
  6. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHH!! Isn't it exciting! I'm November 3rd and maybe my mom too. She's still working on some paperwork but we're hoping she'll be approved in time. See you on the November Bandsters thread.

    Shhh...Keep it in the Closet!?

I think it's perfectly normal to want to keep it quiet. It's unrealistic to think that everyone will be 100% supportive and tell you what you want to hear. Personally, I am keeping it from my very large and opinionated extended family, just because I know they would want to burden me with their personal opinions about what I should or shouldn't do without taking out the time to research the facts. Everyone in my immediate family knows (father, mother, 1 sister) mostly because they're an awesome support system but also because my mom and I are going through this process together and will hopefully be banded on the same day.:crying: If you decide to make 'mums' the word, make sure you have a good support system even if it's only 1 man strong. Remember, "No man is an island", and somewhere through this process you'll need to be able to draw strength from somewhere.
  8. Although I'm not new to the site (I've been "snooping" for quite some time now), this is officially my first post. I've learned so much from this website. I just received the call about my official surgery date today so I thought it appropriate to make my membership with LBT official as well. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. My mother and I are going through this process together (HI MOM, cuz I know you're reading this) and I know it will bring us together in a way we hadn't discovered yet. She's always been a big part of my support system throughout my life and I cant' wait to return the favor after she gets her band too. This site is great and I'm glad I found it. Good luck to everyone in your weight loss quest. May you always seek after the good things in life and always find what you seek! Love, AngelicOne

  10. Thanks for the welcome Suzie. I just enjoy reading all of the posts. It's hard to believe there are so many people dealing with the same issues as me. I plan on posting more. I've been going stir crazy with the waiting. So reading the posts calms me. My MD, nutrition and psych. consultation are all this week so bring on the nerves! Thanks again for the welcome. See you around!
