Lunch from "Heck"...Dang sliming!
Hollie519 replied to weightisover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok thanks for that but I have been banded for over 11 months. I am very aware of what getting sick is like. I know bodies fluxuate differently at different times of the day. I know certain things won't always go down depending on the day. Listen to her words. After the first bite she knew she would be sick. That means she took too big of a bite or didn't chew enough. I think I have had enough personal experience to know the difference. I'm not trying to be a know it all and am always open to suggestion but I believe I know what I am talking about. There is no certain food I avoid at all. Not even beef jerky. I have great restriction and can handle most things. If I don't chew well enough, I get sick. Plain and simple. -

Ok so first thing, no certain food should be off limits because oh having trouble getting it down. You should feel restrictions but you shouldn't find yourself looking for the easiest thing to get down. It's about little little bites and chewing until your jaw is sore. I know its really hard because your eyes are WAY bigger than the hole in your stomach. I didn't realize how important it was to eat slow and small bites and chew. Don't be surprised if the bites you took out of your food looks like you didn't eat enough. Don't look, listen. Listen to your stomach. That will save you many trips to the bathroom. I'm glad that I am starting to forget what insides of people's toilets look like. :] hope that helps -
Plus cheese makes me kind of constipated now that I am eating 3 seperate meals in one day that I would have eaten in one meal before.

I don't cut my calories. I just use them in different ways. I get all the nutrients I need. i pay a lot of attention to calories for my own sake. It is possible to eat around your band like they say. If i allow myself a certain amount of calories a day, than i make sure I don't eat around my band. I am 11 months post op so my body is a lot different from yours by now. When it comes time, you will have to count something. What you choose to count is your decision. I count calories. On days that I exercise I eat more. On days that I don't get a chance, I eat less. But i have learned by now how to read my body. I'm pretty sure it hasn't gone into starvation mode in months. I just makes sure I don't eat more than 400 calories in one sitting. That is a personal choice.

I don't often like to eat eggs either. For some reason I just can't chew them enough no matter what. I used to LOVE hard boiled eggs and I find those are even worse than scrambled. My dad makes the best omletes too so I was bummed. Before having the band, I find salsa better for flavor than cheese and you can get less calories. You don't always have to eat breakfast food for breakfast. Most breakfast things are high in sugars and carbs or fat.

I agree with the above! If you gained the weight back with the bypass, no way in hell will the lap band work for you. UNLESS, you get a huge change of heart and a giant burst of will power. The lap band is harder than the bypass, no offense. My boss has the bypass and she will even tell you that she has had it way easier than myself and she is 30 and I am 18. The bypass takes the weight off and than you have to change your eating habbits to keep it off. There are ways to eat around the band. Friends I know who have had the bypass say its like starving your body without starving yourself. I know if i could eat the way my boss does, I would have gained my weight back as well. Junk food for me is like crack. I can't just have a taste. So I stay away from it period. If you can do that, than you should have the lap band. i have heard of peope getting both but I never did hear the ending results. You need to focus more on your mind set and stop looking for a surgery to do it for you. Get your ducks in a row and than consider having lap band.

How exactly is being banded so much easier than losing without??
Hollie519 replied to kaytiebugs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A vicotry is not as sweet if not earned :] Plus I'm sure most of us could use the endorphines from the exercise lol -
I also avoid taking shots because when you burp, some comes up with it. Oh man, i have never gotten so sick from drinking in my life. The taste of the alcohol coming back up was horrible. Lets just say, my next shot won't be until i'm 21 hehe :]

I used to be so offended when people considered the band the easy way out as well. I have learned to let it go because the anger does nothing but hurt me. Honestly, if people ask you, you can explain to them that if you ate whatever you wanted, it would be the exact same as not having the band at all. All I know, is my boss had the bypass and she doesn't do anything for exercise and eats fast food and candy all day. She lost the weight anyway. If I ever ate half the crap that she ate, i would have gained it all back and than some. the band is a tool not a quick fix. People who think that are just ignorant to what the lap band even is. -
Mine never mentioned alcohol. I am young, so I could be different. I drink hard alcohol when I do drink. i make a low calorie mixed drink and it keeps me chillin all night. Just one, your stomach will be so small and your food intake so much less. I saw no beer because of carbination. I didn't drink until about 4 months post op though. and i heal even faster. I'd wait at least 6. I have had absolutely no trouble with it either. No irritation or throwing up. Nothing. But everybody is differnt. You should contact the surgeon you will have and they should let you know.

Wow thats bull shit lessme! You should see if you can get into a fill center.

Hey get those other people out of your head. My full blood sister can eat 12 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and lose 3 pounds. Its just the way the world is. I am thankful I was fat first or I would probably have been a stuck up bitch. Everything happens for a reason. Stop letting your head get in the way and listen to your heart. If it's meant to be you will know. I always know when something is the right thing to do because I am hesitant. Making excuses is your sub-conceince taking the easy way out. The hard thing to do, is usually always the right thing to do. Make yourself a pros and cons list and than ask your heart what it is that you want. :] It'll come to you.

oh you will be able too. I also did a radio interview with KPS that is on their website if you search gastric banding.
-
the article is also about him. it should be coming out on the 21st. Dr Horgan is amazing huh? The waiting room always sucks but I've never met a doctor who cared so much.

OK I catch your drift. It sounds to me like you just need a fill. Sometimes it also helps to cut down on carbs. I don't and I'm fine but my mom has a big problem when she has sugar or starch she gets so hungry super fast. She doesn't have a band but that could be your body type. If you aren't having trouble with food at all and aren't feeling restriction get a fill. CAll your doctor today because waiting could break you and we wouldn't want that :] Let me know how it goes.

So I know at the end of today, i will be able to sing "today was a good day" haha! Life seems to be getting easier. I feel like I am getting better at letting go of things. I actually went up from 154 to 154.8. Makes me kind of sad but that just means I need to work a little harder. I just have been busting my butt for the last week and eating even better than normal. I have to lose this 8 pounds by October 1st now. I don't think if I was off by 5 pounds my doctor would deny me the job, but its also a personal goal. I'm also STOKED for Halloween. As bad as it is, I'm going to be something skanky this year. It'll be my first time ever. So if anyone has any ideas of what I could be and I'll just skankafy it. lol And my rash is going away! :] Usually it just gets worse and worse but its FINALLY going away. I don't know what it was that i did to releave the stress but its about time after 3 months. I'm moving next week to a new nice apartment. I finally won't have a child mulester neighbor. The boyfriend has taken full control of the bills and I have to say I am impressed. I still need to be around more people my age but life is still good. One day at a time and don't sweat it; life goes on. Thanks for being such a good support system to all of you who have responded to my posts. I can't tell you what an impact you've made.

NO NO NO! You probably need another fill. Because of the swelling from irritation, you probably just can't take all of it at once. If you are hungry now, than its time for fill. You have to give your stomach time between fills to get used to it. If you find yourself hungry that soon, than you need a fill. Do you have trouble passing food? Do you drink any liquids with your meals?

Losing weight with lap band is losing the weight yourself. It may not be the opinion of onlookers but it's the truth. There are people who have lap band who don't ever lose weight. There are also people who lose the weight and gain it all back. The lap band is no miracle. You get exactly what you put into it. Honestly, Lap Band is the smartest thing I ever did. When i was 10 years old, I would pray to God to help me stay strong and eat healthy and exercise the next day. I have done almost every diet known to man. I would lose 30 pounds max! My mom never fed me junk food either. It was about knowing when to stop. This is the first diet i have been on where I lost more than 30 pounds. i would recomend Lap Band to anyone who is fed up with diets not working and has the will power to eat healthy. The band is amazing! good luck!

Compared to the bypass, the band has a way lower death rate. I highly doubt you would die from the surgery. The lap band is not as drastic as the bypass either. Most doctors won't even make you stay in the hospital over night. I was also a perfectly healthy person besides the fact that I was overweight. Had i not had the surgery, I would have grown up and eventually had many health problems. Like they all say, just make sure you do your research and make sure you are committed. If you are not committed, you will feel worse about yourself than you already do. I personally have done every diet known to man and just couldn't do it. This is the first thing that has let me reach my full potential. Don't think of the band as drastic. Think of it as a tool. i would call the bypass drastic. no offense to anyone. Good luck!

You're just paranoid! lol I used to be the same way. now i really don't even pay much attention to my band at all. I mean i rub my chest when i am having pain and i know its from food. But otherwise its like wearing a g string. lol You forget its there after a while. HAHA

If you are already feeling tight, than its probably not a good idea to get a fill. It will just get worse. And there is such thing as your band being too tight.
