    Hi everyone!

Hi! Good for you for making the decision. I'm from Illinois, but thought I'd wish you luck anyway! I had my band put on Aug. 6th - my first fill is this Tuesday. Can't wait! I'm down 30 pounds since July 15 when I began the preop diet. Exercising regularly and feeling great! Hope you have HUGE success!

    August 6th - DID IT!

Hey everyone, Had my lap band done on the 6th, doing great so far, though beginning to feel hungry now and looking forward to going on pureed (mushies?) on Tuesday. It'll be sooo good to taste real food again and not shakes and water - flavored or not! As of Tuesday, the 12th, I'd lost 18 pounds (beginning with the 1000 calorie per day preop diet thru banding and weigh-in on the 12th. My doc does not make his preop patients do nothing but shakes. We got breakfast & lunch shakes, 120 or less calorie snacks after breakfast & lunch, and a healthy protein and vegie supper (chicken breast, salad, etc). It wasn't bad at all. After surgery I had about 5 days of typical postop pain; nothing severe unless I turned the wrong way. Then I had a very sharp tearing sensation in my mid belly and it would last until I was able to straighen up and lie or sit straight or flat. I was afraid to sleep on my sides at night but called and asked my surgeon and learned I could sleep in any position I felt comfortable. Good luck to everyone; no regrets here!!!! Looking forward to starting this part of my life on a healthier, happier note!

    Gas, Gas and more Gas

lol - makes me laugh to find such free speech about burping and "pooting." Cute word; so much more feminine too. lol I'm a little relieved to see that much of the gas problems are because some are lactose intolerant. I'm not, so gas hasn't been a huge issue. I'm a little concerned though about the fact that I don't have to strain my Healthy Choice cream soups... I chew the little bits, what little of them there are. My surgery was Aug. 6 and I'm so afraid I'll find out my band slipped. I can eat an entire can of soup with a half cup of skim milk and it fills me, but I've not experienced any of the throwing up or indications I've eaten too much. I'm using the whey protein powder from Wally World twice a day with soup the third meal since there are 57 grams of protein in each whey protein shake. Any comments would sure be appreciated! Good luck everyone!!!

  6. Hi everyone! Just joined today - had my lap band put in on August 6th at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL by Dr. David Klem; CDH Bariatrics. I feel great; still on shakes & water, looking forward to my first post-surgical appointment on Tuesday, when hopefully he will advance me to pureed foods! Never thought that would sound good. lol Chewing - can't believe I miss chewing!! My postoperative experience as far as surgical pain hasn't been bad at all. First few days were a little rough with a terrible tearing sensation in the middle of my stomach and toward the right, but that faded after 4 days. I've had a little trouble "going," but without my daily coffee and OJ, my body is adjusting to new habits. I swore I'd never be able to give up coffee, even though I was a one-mug-per-morning girl, but I've done it and I hope I never go back... it was such a monkey. I still miss my morning OJ. I'm allowed to walk up to 30 minutes a day and I'm up to about 20. I started out at 309 pounds; I'm down 18 pounds (since July 15 when the 1000 calorie pre-surgical diet began). I'm absolutely amazed at how deconditioned I feel, even though before surgery I had an excellent workout routine at my local Y and worked out 3-4 times per week. I need to really push myself (once cleared) to get back to that exercise routine so I can FINALLY begin to lose weight. I had tried for years to lose weight and just couldn't... I have hypothyroidism and my metabolism just didn't seem to work. I'm really thankful to have been approved by BC/BS to have this surgery and be given a new chance at a more full, active life without the burden of the extra 125 or so pounds I'm carrying around. I want to be able to go to water parks, do a few coasters, go hiking, and most of all, horse back riding!!! I hope I didn't write too much here - I feel like I could go on and on.... Thank you for stopping in... Lory
