What made you decide to have a WLS?

Hello from Canada. My reasons for surgery is peaked at the thought of my new born daughter needing me. I just turned 50 when she was born (my first and only). I thought I could not bear the thought of dieing at 65 from some complication due to poor health. I am diabetic and also suffered from ever increasing pains. Back, hands, shoulder pains. It never seem to end a new ache every day almost. I lost and gained weight too many times and had been looking at bypass surgery for over ten years as an opinion but was still undecided and often spoke and researched about peoples success and failures. I'm trying to be very realistic with my expectations of where I am am going from where I am. I have read here about some struggles some are having with staying with the strictness of the new diet routine. How some struggle with keeping food down and even reading about a concerned wife telling us about her husband eating beacon and eggs at week 3 or 4. He seems to have giving up or is in denial about how he had to rethink his relationship with the foods that have lead him to do the surgery in the first place. We all will struggle some more than others. This forum will for me allow me to be inspired and hopefully inspire in return to be better and push through the hard times ahead. If we're easy we would not be here. But we are here to help and encourage. Blessings for everyone and continued success. Keep at it!! -

Puréed Phase Recipes

I roasted broccoli, cauliflower, onion, carrots, bit of salt and olive oil. Roasted for about 45 min at 375. In a big pot I added water and a box liquid no salt beef broth, some low salt soya sauce and the roasted veggies. Simmered for 2 hours and cooled. The ran it through blender and was done. Roasted broccoli and cauliflower creamy soup. Separated into portions and froze 1/2 for later on. Could always add more water or broth to thin out if too think. Next week I'm going to try with asparagus and mushrooms. -

It is like clear liquid but a tiny bit thicker. I do not see it as too different. I think it will be more of a stage where it will offer the chance to consume more calories and give a bit of texture. I'm afraid it will become easier to over eat and I will have to be more mindful of calories. My food tracker will help me contain my consumption and allow me to see my numbers better. I believe it will be my first real test for my fat brain to relearn new habits and become my skinny brain. -

For me it is not hunger from my stomach. It is what I call my fat brain thinking about food. It is from the bad habits we all form. Recognizing that and falling into bad habit again will be my real struggle. That is why I am so happy I found this group for support and a great place to vent. I hope my words will offer you inspiration and help . You are not alone. The struggle is real and we are here to support you. Best wishes and lots of love. You are going to be better everyday! -

How often do you guys weigh yourselves?
Leo segovia replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do every morning after morning pee in my underwear. I log in my computer . I like the fact I can see progress and if do not loose any then I try to do a bit more walking and do not over think it. I do know there will be times when I will stall and then drop again. Think long term and not short term. From 265.5 lbs two week before surgery and 250 day of surgery and today I'm at 242.8 lbs. 11 days after. I'm happy where I am and will continue to travel down my weight loss journey.... -

Liquid stage and sodium...?'s
Leo segovia replied to Amykins928's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am using no salt added and low sodium broth. It has made a difference for me as I do not retain fluids and swelling has dramatically gone down. My gastric bypass was on sept19 and am on clear fluids untill Tuesday when I move onto liquid diet. Cutting salt is not bad and I do not plan to return to being a salt a holic like I was in my past. If you are determined to make the proper change then go full out , half assing it just is not in the cards. Don't cheat yourself ! My two cents. Best wishes and keep at it!! We are here for you always. -

Starting 2nd week after surgery. I am off my metformin and blood sugar levels are excellent. I do feel a bit week and had only one slight dizzy spell. Wounds are healing quite well. Tiny bit of bruising. Vitamins and Proteins are easy to consume and tracking everything with 'my fitness' app. I did find it not too much fun at the supermarket today. My old brain wanted buy things I know I will most likely never eat again. But I'm ok with that . I have found that Ido have a tendency to swallow air when I drink fluids and I'm working on slowing right down to a crawl with it. I tilt my head back a bit and swallow. Seems a bit weird but it works for me. I've had the gastric bypass Sept 19 . I started at 265.5 lbs 2 weeks before surgery and on the day of my surgery I was 250 lbs. I started to track my weight from then and have slowly lost 5.5 lbs in my first week. I do seem to have not lost anything for three days but I do see and feel my body structure changing. I have been mobile more the last few days and I am starting to track that also. Today I walked about 1km and will be adding more distance daily. Maybe will incorporate the treadmill in my buildings exercise room. I'm glad I found this group and look forward to reading and responding to people questions. I'm sure I will have some and I am happy to answer any I can for others. Thanks. Cheers from Toronto Canada. !! -
