I measured once. I guess because I don't look different to myself, I figured the measuring tape wasn't going to tell me any different. I should go ahead and remeasure. It can't hurt. Thanks for the tip.

I'm going to say all of the above. Everything that you mentioned can cause tightness. The most common natural thing I have heard of is to drink something warm/hot before eating like tea or broth to prime the band. To be honest though, you might want to have them look at your band under fluro because water should never hurt going down. I hope that you are able to resolve this either way.

What a wonderful way to think of it. I never really got to have my last supper. I was due to start my liquid diet on 10/02, but they moved my surgery up. Instead I had to start my diet right then (the morning they called) just to have 10 days on the liquid diet. I have to say though that I didn't really miss it. I was so excited about having my surgery. I don't regret it. I am not losing as fast as some people, but I am losing. That is all that matters. With your wonderful attitude about it, you are going to do great!

Congrats on nursing school Carrie! What made you go into the medical profession?

Ok, how the heck do we have Pizza Hut ads on here right below the ads for gastric surgeries? WTF!?!?!?!
-
Congrats on your surgery date! You could make a sort of soup out of mashed potatoes and ff gravy or maybe a sweet potato soup. I can't imagine how difficult it will be to be on liquids during Christmas.

Just reached First Major Goal! So excited!

Congrats! That is wonderful! -
I am a little sore after fills. My doctor's office numbs me so I don't feel the fill, but the next day it is a little uncomfortable.

Don't rub it in. It is 29 degrees here this morning with not even a hint of snow. It should not be this cold with no snow.

I chose lapband because it is reversible. I also didn't like the drastic changes of my anatomy for gastric bypass. I have a family memeber that has had gastric bypass and didn't really do well. I didn't want that for me. As a matter of fact, when I first started checking on lapband. My insurance didn't cover it. I waited two years for my insurance to start covering lapband rather than have gastric bypass.

A bit... contradicting?
*slim* replied to takeitSLOW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Though I am sure you will get many different answers on this, your best bet is to talk with your doctor. Everyone's doctor has a different idea of what is ok or not ok. Get your doctor's take on it and follow that. Good luck on your surgery! -
When does bandster HELL set in
*slim* replied to motivated's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every person is different. I wasn't very swollen after surgery, so my bandster hell started right after surgery. I have had 2 fills and though it is better, I still get hungry sooner than 4 hours. Some doctors put some fill in during surgery, so some people never get hungry. If you are one of them, count your blessings. If not, your time for a fill will come sooner than you think. Good luck to all of you that have recently had surgery! -
Thanks. The problem with the 28 pounds is, my scale says it, but I can't see it. Thanks for commenting on my weight loss. I am glad that you are starting to feel a little better.

My eating got derailed last night.....
*slim* replied to Mim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now, we are still working on my recognizing what is really behind my want/need to eat. For example, when my DH and I get into an argument, recognizing that within an hour of that time, I am in the kitchen searching for something to eat. I know I am not hungry, but learning to recognize that I am really looking for comfort rather than the food. It gets tough because we are so used to eating without thinking about it. It comes from years of doing that. I struggle with that every day. I have to make myself slow down. Then stop to think about whether I am really hungry or just wanting control/comfort over whatever my situation is at the time. I wish us all the best. -
You are so funny!:girl_hug:

Well respected OB/GYN dies from banding complications...
*slim* replied to mini_me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am saddened about her death. I think her being a doctor actually might explain things. First, doctors are not known for being good patients because they tend to try to treat themselves. Also, as a doctor, she would have been around both patients that could have been carriers for the bacteria. There are always risks with surgery of any kind. But it should not scare people so bad that they decide against surgery simply because of 1 tragic death. -
Every doctor differs on the coffee. You really need to ask your doctor for his opinion. My doctor allows coffee as long as it's not more than 2 cups per day. Other doctors say only decaf. Call your doctor's office to get his take on it. Also, try one of the mix in laxatives or fiber like benefiber or miralax. When you are on solid foods, dried apricots or prunes may help. Also make sure you are getting in your fluids. Unfortunately, constipation may be a part of all of our lives at some point after banding. I hope this helps.

It can cause band slippage. Especially in the beginning when your body is still healing from surgery. That is why they want us to avoid vomiting as much as possible. My doctor always says to go back on liquids and work my way back up after a pb or stuck episode because the stoma is going to be irritated afterwards. I am glad that you feel better, but be careful with the vomiting.

That was too funny sms!

PJTP my DH came home this afternoon complaining of sever stomach pains. Now he has the heater turned to 80 degrees because he is cold. I am spraying the house behind him, but why can't he just cover his sick self in a blanket instead of causing us to suffer from heat stroke? ***grumbling while spraying lysol***Men can be such babies!

I'm so sorry. You deserve all of the chocolate your pouch can handle. I will keep you in my thoughts.

How Many Fills before you started losing well
*slim* replied to JOSIEGURL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had 2 fills and have to say I haven't hit real restriction just yet. I have enough restriction that if I eat too fast or too big of a bite, it gets stuck. I don't have enough restriction to keep me full for 4 or more hours. I am hoping that my next fill will put me to that point. Keep up the good work though! -
Practicing for post-op on Liquids - What is too much sugar
*slim* replied to aup man's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to say the same thing. Pre-op they allowed sugar, but post-op I was also told to switch to sugar free items. Staying away from white sugar helps to decrease your carb cravings. I don't know that there really is a concrete number for the amount of sugar. The best thing to do would be to call your doctor's office or nut and see if they can/will give you a definite answer on the amounts. Good luck to you! -
Lord help me - Pre-op diet for a month
*slim* replied to creed2474's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really does get better after a few days. One thing I did to help me was going to bed earlier than normal. That kept me from sitting around thinking about food. Also, since are you allowed so many shakes, spread them out a little. That also helped me. By the end, I really didn't have to drink all of my shakes to keep me satisfied. Keep up the good work. It is so worth it in the end! -
On liquid diet with diabetes question
*slim* replied to bethm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depending on your protein drink, there is probably quite a bit of sugar and carbs. I know on my liquid diet, I was drinking Glucerna shakes which are made for diabetics, but they still had just as much sugar (and sometimes more) than slimfast or something like that. As long as your blood sugars aren't higher, I wouldn't worry about it for the time being. It will level out. I was actually able to stop my metformin after surgery (under doctor's orders). I just monitor my blood sugar for spikes. Good luck to you!
