Lap Band has ruined my life!!! RUINED!

I'm sorry you have had this experience with the lap band. I do have a suggestion though. It sounds to me that you are very stressed out at the moment and have been since the passing of your husband. I am sorry to hear about your husbands death that must have been a monumental loss for you and also a huge stressor along with unemployment, the stress of having to go out in the unappealing dating scene, and undergoing major WLS with no signs of a loss. I do know that our bodies do react to this stress and alot of the times the stress shows up in our stomaches. The point I am trying to make is that maybe you are having trouble with your band due to stress. I mean you said it yourself when your husband died you lost weight because stress caused you not to feel hungry. My thoughts are that with all this stress on you and then adding in the lap band you are very restricted even with out a fill and your stomach is taking out lifes stresses on your band and also causing your body to hold on to the weight. I do believe you want to try and loss weight with the lap band and it isn't your fault that you are having trouble. I also do belive that the lap band does work! And it will work for you! My opionion is that you do not have the band taken out, but you do put weight loss on hold for the moment and work on your life to eradicate these stressors. Seek spirtual guidance, exersise, talk to friends and family about your husbands death. I do not know how far you are in the bearvement process but doing these things will help with it. As for the unemployment I do not believe that they will not hire you for the reasons you have stated. There maybe some companies out there but The economy is tough right now and many people are having trouble finding jobs whether they are fat or thin. You will find a job but maybe since you are unemployed you should take up a hobby or an activity that you have always wanted to learn and enjoy it and let it relief stress for you. As for getting back in the dating scene you have plenty of time for that. There are men out there that are only in it for looks but alot of men could care less if you are fat. I mean you are a pretty woman. What a man won't want is a woman in an unstable place who is bitter and stressed....I don't mean your are bitter but it's hard not to be when life takes us through hell. When you have worked on all of these things and gotten life to a more normal stable place than I suggest going back to losing weight and I can almost guarentee that your lap band will work for you instead of agianst you. I hope I helped. If you would like to talk more just shot me a message.
  2. I'm sure I have to wait five years to get it through my company. I'm not too upset I mean the payments are only 295 it's not to bad
  3. So I have been researching the Lap band for about 2 years now going through the thoughts of should I have it or shouldn't I have it....In August I decided I AM GOING TO HAVE IT! I had just graduated college and got my first job. I found out that my insurance paid for it however not for 5 years....I AM NOT WILLING to WAIT for FIVE YEARS! So I decided that since I don't have any major bills that I was going to finance. Well today I WAS APPROVED for financing. My surgery cost is $15,200 including unlimited fills for the first year. I only did get approved for 12,000 beause of the tightening of the credit market but it's ok hopefully I can save up the 3200 by the time sugery is scheduled which should be in January! I am soo excited!!

I live in Lakeland so I am only about 20 min from you! You will have to let me know how the surgery went and how Dr. Aguilia is! I won't be having the surgery until Jan. because of a new job. I have a question are you a self pay?

    Disgusted!!

40lbs in five months is amazing! That is 8lbs a month and 2lbs a week! That is how much you are supposed to lose with the band! I just think of it this way when I feel like its not falling off fast enough. If you continue to lose the way you are in 7 months, which will be your 1 year anniversary you will be down 56lbs more!!! That is 96lbs for the year!!! That is amazing!!

    Scared to be banded

I basically felt the same way as you. I started looking into WLS about 2 years ago. At first I thought of gastric bypass but then it seemed way to drastic and scary that they would cut your insides up! Then I started looking into the Lap band. I have been going back and forth about getting, being very scared myself about surgery! I am 22 and have beend dieting since the age of 12. All the women in my family are overweight and I just can't imagine myself staying fat the rest of my life! I was very scared up until about 2 months ago when I really started to research. This surgery is a very uncomplicated one and they do not alter your insides and it is reversible and the band can be loosened if you decided to have childern or you get sick so you can go back to a normal way of eating. The mortality rate of the surgery is less than that of a gallbladder surgery and just about the same procedure as well. Let me tell you I had my gallbladder out 5 years ago and it was not bad at all!!! I woke up from surgery and the only real pain I had is when they made me walk for a few minuetes...the next day I spent 8 hours on foot touring my college and was only a little sore. I have not yet had the lap band but I am going to get it in Decemeber or Jan. I would get it done sooner because I am self pay as you are. But I just started a new job so i have wait a while. Also the self pay option is not that bad. Try and find a doctor that includes the first year of fills with the price. I am paying 15,200 for the whole thing and with my financing it comes out to be about 400 a month for 3 years....which is like a brand new car and a higher insurance payment, but you will be spending alot less money on food so the price will off set itself!! Good luck and to be safe make sure to research your doctor!!! Try and pick a doctor that has at least done 100 surgeries!
  8. Hi what do you guys think about this. I am starting my new job in less than 2 weeks. I am going to be a self pay for my surgery so as soon as I get my first check I can start the process. My question is how bad would it be to ask be let go 45 min early for a doc appointment about 2 months after I start? It will be the one appointment that I need to get off early for...all the others I can go after work. I want to get the ball going as soon as my financing goes through but I'm worried about making a bad impression at work...Starting Jan 9 I will have thursday-saturday off but I want to start this process now so by then I can have my surgery on a thursday and hopefully be back at work on sunday! I sit all day at work so I don't think 4 days will be a problem....what does everyone think??

    The boyfriend problem

If your not happy forget about it....He should be taking care of you...to an extent!! You are a new person and about to go into college!!! I am so jealous! I just graduated college this month and I wish to God I would of had the lap band done before I went to college...I had alot of fun and you met sooooooooo many new and exciting people...and boys...but I wish I was in your shoes and had the weight off before I went instead of gaining 55lbs....oh watch out for the college weight gain...it happens to the best of us even though I promised myself it wouldn't happen...it did...there are alot of late night pizza and breakfast eating...and drinkin :tongue2: Just make sure you walk walk walk walk around campus and to class if possible and you will keep the weight off!!! Also, Have lots of fun...it goes by really quickly.
  10. I am getting banded in the middle of december!!! I would get it done immediatly because I am going to be a self pay, but I am starting a new job next week and cannot take any time off work for the first 90 days

    Losing weight before surgery

My employer does cover the surgery but not until you have worked there for 5 years!!!! I am not waiting that long! I have been waiting 22 years I'm done and I don't mind paying for it myself!
  13. Ok I have not been banded yet but I am planning on being banded in Decemeber or Jan. I have to wait because I am starting a new job in a few weeks and I won't be able to get financing till have a few pay check stubbs to prove my income and I also have to go through about 6 weeks of testing before they will band me, and I also cannot miss any work for the first 90 days so I have to work appointments in my schedule. My question is would it hurt to try and lose a bit of weight before the actually the surgery not including the pre-op liquid diet? I currently weigh 247.8, which is the highest I have ever weighed!! I have been bouncing around from 223-246 for the past 3 years but due to just finishing my last semester in college, and being lazy for the past 6 weeks before I start my job I have gained about 20lbs. I would like to be about 228 before I start my liquid diet in Nov. or Dec. And probably with the liquid diet for 2 weeks I am required to be on I should lose about another 10lbs putting me at about 218 right before surgery. Is this reasonable to do or should I just eat whatever untill it's time for the pre-op liquids? Oh yeah I am about 5,7". I just feel so awful at this weight!! And none of my clothes fit very well....I'm tired of wearing a girdle! What would you do??

New from Gainesville and super nervous!

I know how you feel! I started to research the lap band when I was about 20 and I kept on thinking about it and than I would get scared and decide not to do it. I wish I would have done it then because my insurance paid for it then! Now I have to finance it myself. Don't be discouraged if the insurance company won't pay for it though. There are many alternatives to paying for the surgery. Personally I am getting a 0% interest credit card to pay for it where payments will be about 200 a month. I just graduated from USF and got a job a Geico so thankfully I will be able to pay for it. If insurance doesn't workout I'm sure you can also go that route....just no new car for a few years...oh well I'd rather drive a crappy car and look hot!!
  15. My surgery is going to cost $15,200 and that includes unlimted doctors visits and fills for the first year and then they are $75 a fill after the first year.....better than a new car!
  16. You look fierce!! I have not yet had the surgery but I wanted to talk to someone around my age that has had it. It looks like we are about a month apart! I just wanted to know how you dealt with being young and going out and having fun with the band and how your weight loss is going?

  17. How does everyone get time off work to go to doctor's appointments and everything before the band? How long do these appoinments last? I just got my first real job....recent college graduate, and I was just wondering how all this is done...do you tell your employeer, or do you just say you have a doctors appointment?
  18. Have you hit your goal weight? You don't look like ur 180! how old are you?

  19. I won't miss..... Back fat A huge tummy Not feeling as comfortable as I should during sex...or feeling uncomfortable being on top! My boyfriend is like a bean stalk! Feeling to big to be with my boyfriend Not being able to cross my legs Not wearing shorts Not wearing a bikini Towels that don't fit around me Not wearing a belt Not wearing clothes that I want to wear!!!!! Feeling like I'm carrying way to much weight on my frame Feeling like an amazon woman when I wear heals I'm like almost 6 foot tall and I weigh 240! Not feeling guilty anymore!

Can anyone recommend a good exercise DVD?

I actually love Richard Simmions. He can be annoying but the music and the dances are really fun and you can push yourself really hard or take it slow. My faviortes are Dance your pants off, Sweatin to the Oldies 3, and Groovin in the House. You won't be bored I promise and they are good for beginers and intermediate exersisers.
