Weird, sharp pains when I eat...

How far post op are you? I had mine 9/12 and the worst pain i have had is exactly on that area. Mine is not related to eating, since I'm still on liquids. Do you have any history of Diverticulitis? The strawberries have seeds which may cause you some problems if you do. Just a thought and if it continues I'm sure you'll discuss with your surgeon.
  2. I have one more comment: THANK YOU!!!!
  3. I want to thank you for this article. My BMI was 37 before I got the surgery. I got very little support from my friends on my decision because "I wasn't that big" They don't believe me when I say my decision was not a cosmetic one(although it will be a nice little perk). It was a decision based on an unusually high incidence of CV disease in our family. I really needed this article! Again thank you!
  4. I just had my band on 9/12. I was having a hard time getting my fluids in. I had maybe 32 oz yesterday. i was trying to only drink fluids with protein (Isopure, special k protein water) I am also allowed cream soup and plain yogurt, but these aren't of interest to me either. Today I received a call from the nurse who said not to worry so much with the protein and try to get my fluids in. I started with plain cold bottled water and it went down soooo much easier. Follow your dr's instructions by all means, but this has probably saved me from dehydration.

    Hoping

Yes, I had almost exactly your situation. I am older than you (51) and already have HTN and high cholesterol. Heart Dz and diabetes are so strong in my family and I have fought my weight all my life. So many people are focusing in on what I will look like when my weight is off, but honestly I am focused on what I will feel like. I am also a nurse and can't imagine working for 14 more years while being overweight. Best of luck to you!
  6. YES! Exactly! I was banded 9/12. There is no way I can get all my liquids in and I experience the same chest discomfort when I try. I'm afraid I'm going to be scared to eat solid food even when I can! Guess we'll just have to be patient and heal.

    New Bander

I was banded 9-12-08. I have noticed the same thing. I wonder if it is because we are in ketosis, from decreased calorie intake? Hopefully it will get better as we can increase our intake.
  8. I just had my band today. I have 5 incisions! I know at some point they mentioned this, but I can't remember it. Is this typical?

    Dealing with the Pre-OP.....

This sounds very familiar! The preop diet gets easier actually after the 3rd day. You will be so proud of yourself. I really worry about the social aspects of eating, but I hope as my health improves, Ican focus on that.

Surgery on Thursday, Work on Monday??

I had my surgery today and plan on returning to work on Tuesday. I feel really good this evening except for discomfort in my shoulders from the gas. Also I'm embarassed to ask but can anyone tell me how to start a new message? I have only responded to other people's messages. Thanks

    5 days to go

I also have 5 more days. today is the worst day so far. I'm hateful as a snake and I know it! Tonight is my family's pizza night. Think I'll lock myself in the bedroom. This has been a good exercise in self control.
  13. I'm on day 8 also. My surgery is 9/12. I too feel the effects of healthy eating!! I feel like I'm having an out of body experience!! The perk is I've lost 6 lbs this week. Good luck!
  14. Oh my gosh! I felt so good to read your post. It makes me feel "normal" in my reactions. Some people at work are the food police. Just when I try to not focus on food, that's all they want to talk about.I want to tell them to mind there own plate not mine!! But they are really good people and I try to overlook.
  15. I know exactly how you feel.I am not getting any support from some of my closest friends. I have not told my Mom yet. I will tell her right before my procedure. One of my friends told me she thought the procedure was extreme and insinuated my surgeon is money hungry for doing it. She also assured me I will lose my hair. My BMI is 37, but I am 51 and have comorbidities like hypertension, high cholesterol, and an area in my brain that has infarcted from high blood pressure. I am trying to be proactive about my health. We just need for people to be supportive rather than judgemental. If you have researched and prayed about this, don't let anyone changed your mind! We will all be thinking about you.

    Am I crazy???

I am on the 6th day of my preop diet. Hang in there. The three day rule thing seemed to be what happened with me. Once I got past three days it has gotten easier. I lived through Labor day weekend, Saturday night pizza night and having company for four days!! It sorta feels good to have some control and know that if we make it through this, maybe we will be successful long term. Good Luck!

    Surgery in two days

I am scheduled for Sept 12 and expect to be same day urgery. I will start the preop diet This thurs. I figure if I have the will power to do that... it will tell me something about myself and maybe I'll have the confidence to do the rest.
  18. I am scheduled Sept 12 and I know EXACTLY what you are saying. The physical part of the surg doesn't worry me. I know it is temporary. It's the head part I'm scared of. Food is an addiction just like many other things. I hope this will be a tool to use to develop new life long better eating habits and portion control. Just wanted you to know you're not alone!

    Results of lapband

I'm so glad I read your response! I will be banded in September, and I've really tried to get a feel from reading this forum about how people handle the emotional attachment to food afterward. You're right it has to be about the attitude and not about "beating the system" and how you can cheat. It's a tool to develop better and healthier eating habits.

    Results of lapband

My BMI is 37 and I am also scheduled in September. I have a good friend who had a similar BMI and was banded in April. She just hit the 50 lb. mark.
