    Will tricare approve me (comorbidities)?

I have Tricare Prime and I have been approved for my surgery Feb 12th...I am a diabetic and BMI is 37 and my cholesterol is slightly elevated so they considered me as having 2 comorbidities...Good Luck to you! I got my approval in 4 days once I met with the surgeon so Tricare is pretty quick and I think they are approving a lot more people now! Good Luck!

    Decision process

I was once in the same position that you are in...but then my husband finally said "NO" to the bypass because of all the complications and the mortality rate is much, much higher...like 1 in 200 and the band is like 1 in 1200...so this kind of made my decision for me...but you are right about the intial weight loss but if you do research this you will see that they have done studies that at the 3 year mark that the bypass patients and lapband patients are at the same place in their weight loss..and also remember sometimes faster isn't always better due to the extra skin...I'm going to be getting my band in Feb and I can hardly weight! If I only lose 2 lbs a week I'm ok with that because I know that I'm doing it the safer way...but this is just my opinion after having researched both surgeries in depth! Good luck to you and the decision is yours and both surgeries have a lot of success and change lives so I'm sure you will choose the best one for you and will be on your way to a healthier life!!

Hi everyone! Well I think I'm almost ready to have my surgery...they say within 3-4 weeks I should be having it done! I'm really excited! Come On SC!

Hi everyone!! I go to see my surgeon Dr Tribble in Columbia Friday for my final appt then they will file everything with my insurance (Tricare)...then I'm not sure what next but hopefully not much longer before I can get my surgery! I won't to lose some weight before summer so I can enjoy the pool with my children and feel good enough to play with them the whole summer! I can't wait!!!! I hope everyone is doing well!!!

    Hello from South Carolina

I don't know how much of that I will have to have done..I don't really have any problems other than the Type 1 Diabetes, so hopefully just the "normal" test and nothing extra....and you are right I'm sure they take their sweet time getting the results to the dr and then dealing with the Insurance, I hope thats not a nightmare!!!

    Hello from South Carolina

Well I'm glad to hear that you guys like Dr Tribble and Dr Prickett's office...thats always good to have a nice Dr's office and staff...What all tests did you have to do using them before the surgery? I know all dr's are different...I've heard from some blood test, EKG, psyc eval...but what else is there? I'm hoping to get everything done quickly!! At the Seminar they said normally once you get your first appt you can have your surgery 6-8 weeks from then...so we'll see about that! So for me the end of Oct or sometime in Nov...which would be a good time!! Thank you for any information any of you have while I'm just waiting and hoping to get all the test and stuff done quick!!

    Hello from South Carolina

Hi, I live in Elgin, SC...getting things going to have the surgery..My dr is either Dr Tribble or Dr Prickett in Columbia...let me know if anyone has used either of them! I go Sept 18th to pay the first $250 and hopefully everything goes smooth...Tricare has given me the OK to go, so hopefully the Insurance won't be an issue! I HOPE NOT!!! I'm a Type 1 Diabetic, with a BMI of 38 and a few other comorbidities (not sure the spelling on that) so I hope everything goes well!! Good luck to everyone!
