My surgery is Feb 4th and I'm finding myself trying to eat all the foods I know I soon won't be able to have. Captain Crunch, nachos, steak, bagels, salads... Are you doing this too or are you getting a jump on the weight loss before surgery?

I tried those FiberChoice chewables but they made me blow up like a balloon. Very uncomfortable when sitting in meetings and my intestines are rumbling around! I hear that Benefiber powder doesn't do that. I'm going to try it.

What reactions have you had since surgery?
SunnyCoconut replied to thinkingslim70's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thinkingslim70 - A friend of mine had her surgery a year and a half ago (before I even started my journey). Everytime I would see her, at some point in the visit she would go into too much detail. One time we went to dinner and she ordered a margarita, I said, "Oh, you can still have alcohol?" And she went into this huge explaination of beer and bubbles and regurgitation and the size of the stomach opening and more stories of regurgitation. To tell you truth it was a little nausiating. While she was reviewing the menu, she would give explainations of why she couldn't eat each different dish. And when the food came, she would go thru a big production of getting the To Go box right away and explaining it all to the server at length. Then she would comment on how fast I chew or how she could never eat that much food now, or even the types of food on my plate and why she couldn't and what would happen if she did. When I complimented her jacket, I had to hear about all her other clothes that don't fit, how she has to buy a new size every couple weeks, how her work uniforms don't fit, how her bra sizes keep changing, etc... I know her surgery is life altering and it affects all areas of her life. I think she looks amazing and I am so happy for her. It's just my friend who used to be such a great jokster and lighthearted fun friend has become a surgical text book about vomiting and bodily functions and sutures and hair loss. Sometimes it can be a downer. I would never complain directly to her because I understand this is so huge to her. Now here is the kicker, I am going for surgery on Feb 4th. I catch myself sometimes answering friends' questions in too much detail. I try to remind myself of my friend and only answer what I am asked. I'm sure your friends are very happy for you and are supportive in their hearts. Maybe they have heard too much or too often. Even the best stories will lose their effect if heard too often. It doesn't make the story any less impressive but the response given maybe less impressive. -
Hi Snakewando, I am also getting banded on the 4th. Ugh! I'm really excited and scared. I can't believe it is getting this close. I spent so long planning and talking about it, now the actual procedure is coming!

February 10th bandsters! Where are you?!
SunnyCoconut replied to serenity55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know exactly what you mean! I started this process in July and I feel like I'm forgetting everything they already expained/taught me. My surgery date is Feb 4th. Now that the holidays and everything are over, I'm starting to get scared!:sneaky: I have a pre-op appt at the end of January, I hope that calms my nerves a little. What am I saying? Then I'll be totally freaked!! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I'm in your boat with you... -
I use GNC's Pro Performance 100% whey -- Banana Cream is great, Vanilla is good too. They now offer Unflavored but I haven't opened it yet. I tried Mixed berry and I quickly took it back to the store, yuk! My partner uses the chocolate flavors by ON Gold Standard 100% Whey, also at GNC. Those are really good too. Banana Cream in the blender with either Soy or Skim milk and a couple of ice cubes is the best I've found. I put my powdered Vitamins and liquid Calcium right in the blender with it.

I have already completed all the pre-op tests, diet requirements, counseling and consultations. All that is left is the insurance approval and I should be set! I have a cruise scheduled for the first week of January so I'm trying to schedule the surgery for the end of January. I can't wait!

I Can't Believe I'm Asking This...

Dang, RestlessMonkey, don't sugar coat it or anything! You crack me up. I actually like the "Beam me up Scottie" tatoo idea! -
Just starting the process
SunnyCoconut replied to canter4u's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hellooo from a former Fredrick girl!! I lived there for 10 years and went to Hood College and then moved to Florida 12 years ago. I am new at this process too. I've been to the seminar and met with dietitian, med dr and the psych. Now I'm waiting on the next step. This site has been a great help to me. They bring up so many things that I haven't begun to think about. Good luck with your journey! -
We've had more 'weather' since Fay left then when she was here!
