Great information! I will ask again since surgery was delayed for 2 months. I was concerned about certain limitations with other procedures with medications I take and other negative side effects. Back in 2008 I was so opposed to even the band at that time and wanted the least evasive procedure. I will do a little more research and ask, I do have some time due to having 2 procedures, (1) Removal and heal (2) ? sleeve, SADI, GB etc. To be honest if I loss 100lbs I will be so happy and just pray I can keep it off, it's a realistic number and my doctor agrees. Of course we all want to be at ideal weight but to loss 100lbs off my knees would be great. I'm 59 and 6'1 so I can live with that number. Thanks so much.

Banded in 2008 new band 2014 now it's not doing anything so we are going to sleeve. Nervous to say the least, my doctor is great but wants to do 2 surgery's. Removal then wait 2- 3 months and Sleeve. 385lbs in 2008 lost 100lbs first yr then blow it out and removed. Banded again in 2014 only lost 35-40lbs, now 390lbs. I know these are tools but how different will the Sleeve be then the Band. My understanding is that they do cut the part of stomach that sends hungry signal to brain. What should I expect in terms of the feeling between the two?

One Year With Mini Gastric Bypass: My Journey, Thoughts, and Tips!
Edward replied to a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Thanks for the response. I saw the doctor and discussed options and will go with Sleeve. 2 surgeries, one to remove the band and heal and 2nd 3 months after for Sleeve. He admitted that some doctors do the surgery all at once but cautioned that scar tissue can be problematic. Think I'll start a new thread about Band to Sleeve. Thanks -
One Year With Mini Gastric Bypass: My Journey, Thoughts, and Tips!
Edward replied to a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I know this is an older post but it was so well done I had to comment. I'm having my POS band removed very soon I hate it. It doesn't work long term etc,, The first band was in 2008 and redone in 2014 since then all weight is back. 380 right now. Question? Why do I read all the bad things here about MGB? stalls, pain, GERD, ulcers, and can never use aspirin again? I chew a baby aspirin every day 83mg for my heart...MGB seems to be the best overall procedure. Thought maybe of the sleeve but heard even worse things about it. I'm confused as to what to do next as the Band has not proven a long-term solution for me. I'm 58 and don't want to go through this again. Also, does the stomach still produce hunger hormone which is removed with the Sleeve? Thanks and great post! -
Band in 8/2008,386lbs, removed 2012(blown out)looked like an hourglass he said. Re-banded 2014, 6'1 366lbs. In 2008 with original band lost 100lbs first 18 months, blow out band in 2012 and removed. Reinstalled 2014 and lost 0 lbs, gaining weight. 14cc band and the doctor will not fill past 6.5. This band is not working, why did it work the first time for 18 months and then stop? Is it really all mental like I've been told? I had a major life event(my son's illness) that triggered overeating in 2012. Why can't I control this, get my mind right? Is Sleeve that much better at appetite control? I am scared of failure again! Tell me the pros and cons of the Sleeve, I hear they no longer even do the band. Right now I'm 58 6'1 male 380lbs. Have an appointment with the doctor next month.

Thank you, gives me a lot to think about, things that I have forgotten the first time around. I think I see where my head was in 2008 and using the right tool for success. It's never just one thing, that would and is too easy, life it's like that. I never knew about the metabolism part. Thanks

First banned in 8/2008 @ 385 lbs went well, lost 100 lbs,,,,after 4 yrs blow it out with major slip from stress etc,,,,,removed waited and replaced in 2014,,,,,regained of course. Started over and was so scared of another slip I didn't have regular fills. Managed to get down to 350 with only one fill post op. Finally went back and had fill under fluoroscope last month 7/2020 and looked good, filled from 5 to 5.1. Felt no difference so just added 1 cc more Aug 2020 and man I am restricted. I don't remember filling this way after a fill. I drank the water in the office and seems ok but really should have just got .5 cc but wanted some restriction, I feel full all the time and water goes down slow, if I eat soft things it does go down but feels like it's still in the band. It's been 4 days and just now on soft food, yogurt, soups etc... Should I go back or just wait a little longer,,,I just can't remember if it takes a while after a fill to not be belching and slimming all day long. Believe I have the 14 band and think I maxed out at 7 cc yrs ago.

Stress is gone, recently retired and son has left the nest....Mornings are tight,,,hot coffee very slow,,,,it seems that later in day I can force myself to eat a little and do feel better,,,,I guess I just have to wait and see,,,,I had some cheese last night for protein and went down well,,,weird with fluids how it feels suck....never had that better. It's strange I think about food all the time even when not hunger, I have to change my thinking as well....Thx for advice.

Gained it All Back but New Year, New Fill, New Me!
Edward replied to PrettyThick1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I lost 100 lbs first time around. Then slipped my band so bad it had to come out. Was going to go right back in and have it replaced but I wanted a year and gain all the weight back. Since then I have only been back for 2 adjustments, I'm so scared of another slip. I was 385 now at 326 thru diet and exercise. I can eat way too much and know I need an adjustment and have appointment next week. Hopefully I can relearn how to eat just enough and stop,,,,I know I'm not alone when I say it's hard to stop eating a big plate of food when you've been doing it most of your life.... Mind has a big part in weight loss, I am just now seeing how important that is. Good luck all.... -
I have had a band slip....not a good feeling. Call your doctor, they will most likely tell you to do liquids for few days. Soft stuff after that,,just like after adjustment. I had heart burn real bad and could eat way too much at a time, which is what caused it and from overeating and purging. If you caught it in time and go to clear liquids should be ok,,,, I let mine go and keep eating and eating,,,well it got where it had to be removed. Doctors can fix them if you don't go too long like I did. Then wait for swelling to go away which can be weeks to months and then replace band. When in doubt call your doctor.....

I go to my first post op visit today and hope I can get a fill soon. I feel hungry at night just like before. Eating soups and cottage cheese like crazy. Need a fill so I don't start overeating again. Wish I had a scale here that went over 300 lbs.Anyway, I feel good and hopeful for the future. -

Good luck, I'm in the same boat as you, addictive personality, AA as well, clean since 1998, then the weight came. Watch the protein drinks so early, stay hydrated first, lots of clear fluids, -

Follow up from then,,,lost the 100lbs,then stopped going to the Dr. Started to overeat and had a bad slip in 2/2013. Removed band and went wild ,gained all my weight back. New band in Gainesville 1/14/14 and on my way again. Hope this time I stick with it... -
Normal, try laying on your side and walking helps too. My first band in 2008 and gas was real bad because I didn't know what it was.I didn't know to move and lay on my side. This time 1/14/14, my Dr tries to get all that air out because he knows how bad it can be.

Rebanded 1/14/14, feel pretty good about second time around. First time I went 4 years using the band properly, then I thought I could eat like other people, my mistake. Must remember I CAN'T eat like other people, First post op Dr. visit Monday 1/20/14. Thank you all for not letting me forget....I guess it's just "One Day at a Time" or "One Meal at a Time" -

Hi, I had my first band done by Dr Jawad in 8/08. Very good job. I live in Gainesville and started going to Dr.Sarantos. He is very nice. I had a bad slip last year, which was my fault, and Dr S. removed it. Tomorrow I'm having 2nd band put in. Hoping that being in Gainesville I can have better support. Dr Jawad is very good but I hated the drive to see him.
