Can anyone out there tell me the difference between the j&j band and the allergan band? I was told by a friend that the allergan band has been around longer than the j&j. She also thinks its the first to be fda approved in u.s. an that its easier to get docs in U.S to fill because its more familiar to docs. Any thoughts on the subject? What kind of band do you guys have? what about port size?

Pam, what docs in okc and tulsa are you looking at? And hoe much do they charge. the one we found in ark is 400.00 with fluro the one in tx is 300.00 with fluro. I dont think they like to deal with mex patients They both seem nice but I know they dont charge thier u.s patients that much. let me know what you find out I guess we have plenty of time since we cant get a fill for 6 weeks. But i like to be prepared.

hey okie, so glad to hear you had a good experience.what kid of band did you get? Billy is going to get a inamed band I think it is suppose to be a 14cc band. I dont know if he is going to want a fill before we leave or not I hope he waits, I think we can go and get one after he heals. My husbands surgery is the 12th we are both very excited!! Have you found a fill doc here yet? We found a couple one in arkansas and one in garland tx either one is the same distance for us. Let me know what you find. Hey Okie, What part of se oklahoma are you from? Where do you teach? I am not getting banded i"m here for my hubby. we're from the talihina, clayton area. What doc is doing your band?

Monkey did doc say if there was any way to tell if there is a problem before procedure? Will a liver function test tell? anyone know?

Can someone give me the number to Dr. Luttrell. I cant seem to find it. Also does anyone know a doc in Ft. Smith that will take Mexico pats? Husband has srg. on september 12th in mexico and we found a doc in arlington texas(we live in southeast oklahoma)that will take over care but we travel to arkansas alot and thought it might be more convienaint to have one around Ft. Smith area.

Help I try to explain to friends and family that we are doing this to improve my husbands life but I keep getting negative feed back because we are going to Mexico. I explain that is the only way for us to afford it . They say wait and save more then have it done. Some say it dangerous to go to mexico. Isay its dangerous for my husband to remain overwieght. They say the doctors in mexico are not as experianced as u.s docs I say they've been doing it almost twice as long.They say mex docs are not educated as well as us docs I say WHAT! have you seen some u.s state education records. I have one friend that just had it done in u.s (ins paid for his) His wife is a medical assistant and I cant seem to shut her up she says thers no way she'd ever go to mexico now my friend is worried about my husband just because his wife says it to risky! my problem is I dont know how to make my point without "paper proof" can someone out ther give me some actual comparisons between u.s and mexican docs, and surgery results for the lap band I hve searched myself but all I find is stuff from places trying to get me to buy something. thanks vanesa p.s. What brand are these bands? could it be the same brands?

And I know people die in u.s But nyllrap is right we dont have to justify to anyone but each other thank you nyll.

so if he dies waiting to save up more then I can use it to bury him? do you know how long we had to save now!!!! and how many times hes been hospitalized as a diabetic?

My husband is getting his done by dr. Jose rodriguez in juarez mexico on september 12th 2008 hes excited im scared. But i have researched i feel that dr. R was the best choice for us. I also found a fill doc around the dallas area that is more than willing to take on after care but if we go and dont like him there were a couple more to check out. So far most docs i have called in the us have been willing to see a mexico pat.

hey everyone, I just wanted to say i've been reading this thread for 2 hours now it has taken me this long to get done because my eyes keep leaking. I joined this site not because of me but for my incredible husband (the best man I know) I knew how much being overwieght made him hurt inside but never the full extent of what he has delt with until you folks. We have been married now for 8 yrs he was heavy when we met so his wieght did not bother me but now i,m coming to realize how it bothers him We have finally saved enough for his surgery in oct he's excited I'm terrified but I know it will be for the best. I just want to support him the best I can without overpowering his own willpower. thank you vanesa
