  1. I haven't been banded yet but I did start practing no drinking while eating. One thing that I have notices is that it really allows you to taste your food. I have always had a problem eating to fat and not shewing enough....I think the no drinking rule may actually make me enjoy the small amount of food better. Just a thought.

    Any Long Islanders?

Lcubed-- Congratulations. How awesome!! I would so love to have mine before Thanksgiving. So what do you have to do between now and then? You are going to be in a smaller size by Christmas. I met w/ the nutritionist today. I am not nearly as afraid of the liquid diet. I thought it would be much worse.

    Lapband surgery vs GBPS

I have only known 2 people who have had GBS. First is my brother. He is nearly a year out and has lost clsoe to 100 lbs and seems to be doing fine. The other was a co-worker. She had GBS 5 years ago. She lost over 100 lbs and then developed ulcers. She couldn't hold down food and eventually her organs shut down and she essentially straved to death. She was 31 years old. We are all told that GBS has a higher risk. I took it with a grain of salt until I actually witnessed the reprocusions. I think the Lap band has a proven success rate with a very low risk. ANd the fact that it is reversible means that if you try it and it you are not successful can have the GBS down the road.

    Any Long Islanders?

Hi Susan I didn't think anyone actually left Sayville. LOL How are you feeling? So my question for you is how hard is the liquid diet and how long were you on it before surgery? This part really worries me. What has been the hardest adjustment for you so far? And did you really play competitve tennis 8 days later? That is the kind of recovery I hope for.

    Any Long Islanders?

Thanks everyone for your responses. I found a pulmonary Dr. today who was able to give me an appointment on Thursday. I have all my initial appointments this week. 7 appointments in 4 days. I don't think I have been to seven Dr. apointments in the last 30 years besides my OB. I will have to see how the follow ups go. At least it is a good start. LCubed --Did you get your date? I am so excited for you. I can't wait to hear about your experience so I know what to expect. Is your dog an Italian Greyhound? Sooverit--Good for you!! I am glad you did not give up. There is a whole NYU thread here some where. Have you found it? I am sure they will make you feel that you are in good hands. Slimtobe--I was really happy with Dr. Geiss's staff. I made him crack up when I called the lapband "Jewerly for the stomach". I love how he truly believes that obesity is a disease and that the lapband is not a cure but a type of treatment.

    Any Long Islanders?

Sooverit I am so sorry. I understand how fustrated you but be. I have no idea why Giess/Powers would have denied you or if they even had a good reason. Are you going to see other Doctors? Susancarole Thanks for the advice about the the multi-visits to each doctor. Uugh...Nothing is ever easy. I am really trying to get my band before Thanksgiving. My brother is getting married in December and I would like to be fully recoverd by then. I don't care about the special diet I just want to be able to feel well enough to dance and do my wedding duties as his best man. (Yes, I am am his siter but he asked me to be his best man) If not I may wait until after the Holidays which I really don't want to do. Have a great day!! Go JETS!!!

    Any Long Islanders?

Lisa thanks for answering. I will call Dr. newmarks office Monday morning. If i can get in there this week I can have all my testing done by Friday. I am trying really hard not to take off from work for these tests. I am a teacher and it is so early in the year to be taking off. I would love to continue sharing notes. It would be great to have a buddy to go through this with.

    Any Long Islanders?

Hello Fellow Long Islanders, I have been lurking here for months and I finally decided I would introduce myself. I live in a sayville and I am the mother of two beautiful girls ages 3.5 and 2. I have been yo-yo dieting for at least the last 15 years and I have lost over 80 lbs, 3 separate times only to gain it back. I have recently ballooned to my highest wieght ever and i know I can't face that 8o lb weight lose journey again to just end up a failure. I met with Dr. Geiss today. Loved him and his staff. They really made me feel comfortable and postive about my choice. He is obviously passionate about this tool for weight lose and believes in it whole-heartedly. I left his office at 4:00 today and by the time I had gotten home I had all of my pre testing appointments made for this coming week. Except I could not get an appointment with a pumolnolgist for 2.5 weeks. Can anyone give me the name of the doctor they used for this test? :cool2: I would really like to make an appointment Monday morning to see them asap. Thank you for all your inspiring stories. I can't wait to join you in band land.:wink2: Chris
