Hello Fellow Twenty's!!!

Hi everyone. I'm 28 years old. My other reasons for having surgery other than health were mainly just to do normal things. I used to be a lot more active. I love amusement parks, but I don't go anymore b/c I am afraid of being embarrassed that I won't fit into rides. I am tired of being the fat friend or the fattest friend. I love to shop but I want to be able to shop in stores my friends do instead of being the clothes rack or purse holder. And I want to be more confidant and comfortable in my skin.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

I am going by the definition of the word racist. Clearly you are not. It sounds like you are going by what you think the word means. I didn't see where anyone said blacks couldn't be racist b/c they were born black. Ebonics to me is no different from other slang or nonstandard English. Either way it's sterotyping and useless to make it seems like one race talks one way and to specifically use ebonics when describing blacks speaking. We don't say all whites speak redneck.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

I don't know much about Canadian history, but from what I know people didn't originate there, just like they didn't originate here (meaning American). So, are your ancestors really Canadian?? Just like I have never heard the term Australian American. I guess because there is no such thing. From what I remember learning about their history people were dropped off there from Europe as a type of imprisonment. So, either way they initial people came from Europe. Also, I don't understand why people act like African American is the only term used when describing a race. What about European Americans, Asian Americans, etc? Maybe it's b/c African American is used more, but they all exist.

The term African American has nothing to do with what state she was born in. I feel like you can call yourself what you want. It's not like the term was just coined this year. Personally I prefer African American to black or European American to white. I don't see the point in calling myself a color. You don't see people going around calling Latinos brown or Asians beige. It just seems dumb to me. To each is own. If someone calls me black I don't care. IMO, it's all about personal preference.

    Compulsive habits?

I have general anxieties and SAD. I do a lot of stuff to keep myself from stressing out. I bite the sides and front of my mouth. It's to the point here I can't help it now. I used to pick at my ears and someone pointed it out on day and I felt so self conscious about it that I finally stopped. When I get nervous I also fiddle w/my fingers and clean my nails. I guess it takes my focus of my stressful situation. I never have bite my nails, instead I bite my pinky finger. Oh, I forgot eating. I think my lip gloss is a compulsion too. I use it all day, everyday. I should buy stock w/Bath and Body Works.

    OMFG.. Race Card

It sounds like you are pulling the race card. It's easier to pull the race card than say you didn't get in. College admissions isn't as cut and dry as grades and scores. They look specifically at the courses you take, letters of recommendations, college essays, teacher recommendations, extracurriculular activities, athletics, honors, awards. You can't just met the basic requirements to apply. They want you to take honors, academic placement, college prep classes, etc. I got into 2 out of the 3 schools I applied too. I just feel that was meant and it was there loss.

    OMFG.. Race Card

I agree. Someone people will come up for excuses for anything and this one happened to be black. There are tons of isms in the world: racism, sexism, ageism, whateverism. I have heard them all used. One of my older coworkers (early 60s) told me she wasn't promoted because she was old and that she wouldn't leave the company b/c she wouldn't be able to find other job due to her age. There are ageist (is that a word) people in the world, but I just think it's b/c no one likes her.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

What makes it wrong? Should Montell Williams, Michael J. Foxx, Magic Johnson, Maurice Bernard, Tamia, Carnie Wilson, Muhammad Ali also not talk about their medical conditions? or should people like Susan Surrandon, Oprah, Julia Roberts, Bono etc not use their celebrity for things they believe in like fighting injustices in the world? I think they should spread the word about things they believe in whether we agree w/them or not. Why not use their celebrity (fame)?

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

Why take issue w/Eninem? How is he acted like something he isn't? He grew up in a trailer park in Detroit. I have been to the Detroit and 8 mile road. I'm confused are you saying a white male shouldn't rap. Should Cowboy Troy not sing country? If you heard me talk you wouldn't know what race I was or where I am from. Over the phone or radio can you also tell the difference Asians, Latinos, and European Americans as well? Why are you seem surprised your black neighbors kids are on the honor roll and are educated? What does the their complexion have to do with anything? Black as coal? I guess where we are from helps use to form some of our opinions. I keep wondering where you are from. Either way that's not an excuse either. I am from the south and grew up in the country, but I know there is a world outside of NC.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

I still don't see what that has to do w/ "talking black." Oprah is not the only celebrity that tours with/supports politicans. Sure she has a lot of influence, but buying a book club choice is different that voting for the leader of the free world. I am from NC and Jon Bon Jovi came here here w/ John Edwards during the last election . I have listened to for 20 years, but that doesn't mean I am going to vote for him b/c I like It's My Life or Bed of Roses. How is it Oprah's fault that people are dumb? Can't feel sorry for followers.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

Yes, that's pretty much what I was trying to say. If that's what she meant, then that's what she should have said. Saying someone talks a race (or as someone else pointed out a color) makes no sense. People do talk different according to who they are around. And if you never do that then okayyyy. When I watched Paula Deen on Oprah she acted differently than she does on her show. She was quoting 50 cent lyrics. And to the person that claimed I was pulling the race card, you are full of it. I asked my white bestfriend that I have had since kindergarden and she said I guarantee you if someone said Oprah sounded fat and she was breathing all hard that more people would have been insulted. I had to agree. I would have heard all sorts of people saying I don't sound like that. Or if someone had said that fat people were lazy and smelled there would have been a 20 page thread.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

Honestly, this thread isn't very shocking. It doesn't change my opinion of the majority. I know that all of the majority aren't bad. There are ignorant people of all races. Only you know if you are racist. And Oprah can be prejudice, but she can't be a racist. Half of the comments you said, I watched those shows and didn't hear them. The only comment I remember was the one about her grandmother wanting her to grow up and work for white people b/c they gave away good clothes. I don't remember the good clothes comment, but that part doesn't matter. Oprah grow up during the 50s/60s. 99.9% of the houses being cleaned in the south were white. I think it's great that her aspiration was not to clean up after white people. How was the Legend's ball falsely named? It was Oprah's ball. If it was my ball I could invite who I wanted to call it what I wanted. If you want to throw a party where you only invited whites, you can. People do that everyday. Never heard the George Bush hates black people thing either, are you sure that wasn't Kanye West? Either way, you are going to have to be mad at a lot of people b/c they aren't alone. It would take me all day to point out all the racist comments I hear on tv. But that's pointless.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

And your point is? I guarantee decent, intelligent people of any race would be offended. I don't know what race anyone is in this thread unless they have a picture. How do you know who's black and white? I should call one of my white friends and ask them. For all I know I am the only black person in this thread and if so your point is mute.

    Psychics

That's not true. I have been watching Sylvia since I was in high school, so I am thinking over 10 years and I have never heard her give anyone a medical diagnosis. What she does is tell me I am seeing problems in this area (i.e. heart) and I would get that checked. Or if someone is having problems figuring out what their illness is she'll say I would would your thyroid checked (ie). Either way people have to use their own common sense. If Slyvia's a fake, she's one of the better tv psychics I have seen. I think that some people can have this gift, but I don't think anyone ulimately knows other than God. This phone psychic services are just call centers. My cousin used to work for Ms. Cleo before she was shut down. They just had to keep the people on the phone after the free minutes were up. I have done a palm reader for fun in Atlantic City, but it was just for fun. Not one thing she said came true, lol.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

I don't even know why I clicked on this thread. I had a feeling it was going to be something ignorant. What is talking white? talking black? There is definitely some real ignorance in this thread. And no I am not defending Oprah b/c I am black. I am speaking up against ignorance. Just b/c Oprah supports Obama doesn't mean she's doing it b/c he's black. I can bet none of us in this thread know Oprah. So, does Elizabeth Hasslebitch support Bush b/c he's white. And I guess my lack of ebonics means I am typing white. That's some real bullshit. And let me follow suit, I'm not racist by the way.
  16. Some of my happiest childhood memories were going to my grandma's and seeing a lot of my family that I didn't get to see much during the year. I miss not doing that anymore. I remember my sister waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning and getting my Barbie van.

Why are people afraid of atheism?

I don't really seeing anything shocking about it. There are always going to be a group of nuts out there complaining about something. That's just how it is. A lot of people don't like things different from themselves i.e. race, sexuality, social economic group, religion etc.

It they don't want their kids to see the movie, that's their perogative. I'm sure it's going to make the kids want to see it even more. I 1/2 read the plot summar on IMDB and I was bored.

I don't know if it's fear that their kids will learn about something else. Some people feel really strongly on censoring what their kids watch. Think of how many calls were made over Janet Jackson's flashed boob on tv.

    Do you call yourself fat

I don't have a problem with the word fat. I don't go around calling myself a fat ass or negative names, but I will refer to myself as fat. I am fat. I don't see what the big deal is. People have come up with too many words for what. big boned, hefty, heavy, large, stocky, robust, plump=fat
