  1. That is awful to do that too kids. I bet a lot of parents actually did that. Is an extreme situation, the norm? What did they think would happen if yal associated w/non-Catholic children.?
  2. There can be mean and judgemental people of all faiths and backgrounds. I could call out a lot of people from my past that have caused me problems maybe of which still bother me to today. Probably caused my SAD...Lets see whites, latinos, blacks, Italians, skinny people, fat people, old people, young people, gay, straight, short, tall, curly hair, straight hair.... I'm not that young anymore, but especially when I was in high school and college...Religion came up very little. I knew my bestfriend for years before I even knew what religion she was. I can still remember the most popular guy and girl in school, but I don't remember what religion they were. Back then and even in colllege it was about being accepted mainly by your peers. You didn't care if your parents didn't like you. Religion came up very little.
  3. Interesting read....I know how you feel in a way though. It's the same for me, like you said you can kind of relate Jesus to Greek Mythology. For me, it's interesting to read what you say, it's like a reading a textbook. I think we all have different thought processes. We learn differently. Kind of like Howard Gardner's theory of intelligence. We are all made differently, look differently, feel differently, something may smell differently. We don't/can't relate to things the same maybe b/c of our differences. Part of critical thinking is elevating, observing, etc. Maybe they feel like they have sound evidence and they have done these things. I can't say it's not. Something may make complete sense to you and make none to me. No one can explain mother's intuition or why twins know certain things about each other. I can't explain why I know stuff is going to happen sometimes.....but I can.
  4. No problem. I type faster than I can think. I thought maybe you were thinking of someone else.
  5. I have grew up as a Baptist and chose to continue as an adult. You have to do what fits you (which you are doing). I don't have any doubts there is a God. You can't see it, touch, hold or enjoy...But I can feel and enjoy it. What ever floats your boat? I think almost everyone have questioned themselves about what they believe @ some point. I remember the day I stopped and why. I have also visited other churches, etc. out of interest. After 9/11 I took a some classes on Islam just to get a better understanding. It was very interesting. Oh, and you may be thinking about someone else. I have already stated I am pro-choice. And, what does it matter who you will see in hell? 1- you don't believe in hell, right and 2-does it serve any purpose in your life? And I don't know you so I really can't say if you respect other people's religious beliefs. I don't remember you saying anything directed to me or anyone else.
  6. LOL, someone else would have done it...:faint:
  7. Question: How would they know if he was denied entrance into heaven? I'm confused...What religion are they? I don't believe that people die and go straight to Heaven anyway so I don't know what there question or thought process is. I can't answer for them. And my personal belief....I am not speaking for all Baptist, but I think that killing yourself out of spite or malice is different than people that are mentally ill. Not to say they are fools, but one of my relatives always says that God looks out for babies and fools. I believe that God is fair and merciful.
  8. I don't agree...Only b/c there are a lot of different religions/non-religions. If someones religion belief is that you are going to hell for being an atheist then that's their belief. How is that being a hyprocite? Maybe what they study says atheist will go to hell. Your grown and know what you believe...So, what does it matter? You don't even think there's even a hell that you will go to. I know my bestfriend thinks that I won't go to Paradise Earth (what she believes) b/c I am not of her faith. Who cares, that's what she believes. I don't think she's a hypocrite. If I stressed it I would probably have an ulcer over something that doesn't effect me one bit. And no one is perfect b/c they say they are a Christian or believe in God. I wish people would understand that. I literally think some people think that if your a Christian you should be perfect. People love negative stuff (ie: to gossip, the Inquirer, Star Magazine). Who says look @ Miss Clara she goes to Church every Sunday, teaches bible study, feeds the homeless. But I guarantee you someone will mention, the person they see @ the club and slipping w/someone's husband. Everyone wants to know about Brittny Spears wearing no panties, but very few even know what's going on in the world.
  9. No, problem. I could see how you were thinking I was saying that. I was typing fast like I talk and trying to work @ the same time.
  10. First off, I never said that you said you were a Baptist. To break it down, I basically saying that you were bringing back some 2nd hand information. I know your not a Baptist, never said you were!! You are trying to tell me what we believe from what you hear from your Southern Baptist friends. I was trying to figure out the last time why you said you weren't a Baptist. And it is coming across like you are picking on us. When you come from a religion that gets soo much grief, why would you then turnaround and take trash about someone else's religion. I have never understood this. I have had to call my friend on that who's a Jehovah Witness more than a few times. I haven't said one negative thing about your being a Catholic. What's the point? Oh, and lastly in the last post I guess I wasn't clear there either. If you go back and see my "what do you mean?" was directly towards the way you phrased your words. It sounds really mean. Like you were going for hurt or something.
  11. What is that supposed to mean? Someone's forgotten the Golden Rule. I know you are a Catholic and I already stated I am a Baptist, but you were quoting stuff to me like you were. :rolleyes
  12. Maybe I'm having a slow day. I don't understand what you are saying:phanvan
  13. You keep saying "my church" and this must be something w/your faith b/c this isn't a Baptist thing.
  14. I will have to look it up when I get home, but this is what I have always been taught. And I just asked 3 of my coworkers who said the same thing. I don't know...Maybe your Baptist friends are reading a different Bible. I'll post whatever the information tonight.
  15. I didn't say that..Nor did I go into any detail. If you don't believe what I do fine, but don't try to be condescending. I am not doing that to you or your beliefs. Thank you!!
  16. I know that we are all from different religious backgrounds or have know religion. I am a Baptist and the Bible I read says that no sin is greater than the other. The only thing I have read that God will not forgive you for is suicide. My interpretation is that if you commit suicide that you can't repent. O.J.-That's between God and O.J. We don't know that O.J. hasn't asked for forgiveness from God. And that's good that you try to help them. That's what people should do. IMO, it's not going above and beyond just b/c some people don't care. I have had 2 people (friends) that asked my opinion on abortion that were pregnant. I told them both my opinion and one of them kept her baby and one of them didn't. Ultimately it was their decision.
  17. Well I have said before that it's not a choice for me. I would/could never have an abortion b/c of reasons that are personal for me. I love kids and have always wanted kids. Everyone has problems, issues and none of us are perfect. There's no telling who all has had abortions, it's not something most wear on their sleeves. I am a firm believer that I can't be casting stones @ people when I have my own sins. I sin ever day. I overeat which everyone can clearly see.... I am a Christian and I try to follow the Bible, but @ the same time I realize that everyone is not & that none of us are perfect. I can only be accountable for myself. No one will be judged for me or be held accountable for what I do. It would be hypocritical of me to sit in judgement of someone else.
  18. I don't think people are wondering about being ridiculed. My stance is different that Laurend, but I know where she's coming from. I don't think it's right for people to drink or smoke w/they are pregnant either. Being pro-choice, doesn't necessarily mean that I believe that abortion is right (or the right choice for me). I have heard quite a few people on here say that they wouldn't have an abortion, but they don't think it's right to tell someone else what to do with the body. Being pro-choice is just that, giving someone else the choice. I can't feed the child, take care of it, etc after it's born.

    Some lighter fare...

I listen to everything from Keith Urban to JayZ. I also like old Motown (Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Temptations), the Beetles, Bon Jovi. I think I almost have all the American Idol contestants CDs. I just bought over the weekend: Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, Mario Vasquez, and P. Diddy. I really don't read as much as I used to unless it's a textbook or on WLS. I like horrors and mysteries. I like V.C. Andrews, John Saul, Stephen King. Mary Higgins Clark, E Lynn Harris. I like books on history, autobiographies,

    Little People, Big World

That is really wrong. I am going to try and watch that episode today. I hope they fought it.
  21. I was being serious. I really didn't know. I was just wondering after what time people knew. In my lifetime, I have always known smoking was horrible for you. Tons of people still smoke and don't care knowing the harm that could happen to their babies. I wonder why more people don't focus on that.
  22. So, did yal not know the damage that smoking could potentially do to a baby back then?

    Little People, Big World

I really have learned a lot watching this show. If I was in Oregon in I would stop in too. Their farm is sooo cool. Matt is very smart and creative. I hope the 2nd season starts off good and that Jacob and Mike ( I think) are okay.
  25. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman adopted their son Connor @ least 11 years ago, who is bi-racial. Madonna and Angelina Jolie both went out of the country to adopt. Madonna's in the process of adopting a Malawian baby. Angelina's son Maddox is Cambodian and the little girl is Ethiopian. Maybe you meant transracial adoption (I think that's the term). But, if anything I would think that this more recent adoptions are drawing more attention to adopting out of the U.S.
