Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
skyeblu79 replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Kirsten, my surgery is actually on the 20th, but I will be in the office on Monday too. My appointment is @ 2:15 on 19th. My surgery is @ 9:00 on the 20th. Drewslou, I didn't really think about the velour suits. Those are cute though. Maybe I can find a couple some where. They are already starting to put out spring stuff here. -

Marjon, it still feels unreal now. I can't believe it's only a week away today!!! I finally made my payment yesterday. I thought seeing that $$ leave my account would make it seem more real, but it still didn't. I still have a lot of stuff I need to get. I am usually more organized than this, b/c it seems I need more than 24 hours in my days... Machelle, my hotel is right off interstate 70. I need to print out the directions on mapquest. I'm not even sure if that's the highway that goes to Dr. K. I hope so!! I still haven't really gotten any clothes or anything. I wear jeans most of the time, so I don't know what I am going to do!! Any advice on compy clothes. I really don't want to walk around in sweats all the time. -

Thanks for the tip, Kirsten. Adding throat lozenges to my list. Thanks Marjon, adding papaya enzyme to my list. -
Everyone sounds like they are doing great!! Good luck fellow February bandsters!! I have one week to go, yah!!!

Hi, I just wanted to check in. I haven't had much time to be on here. I have 1 week down and 1 week to go. Most mornings I have been doing turkey breakfast sausage and 2 boiled eggs. This week I have been doing a low carb slim fast shake and a boiled egg if I get hungry for a morning snack. Lunch will probably be baked chicken and a salad. So far, so good!!

Thanks for all the information Shesha. Maybe I should call back and ask anything that I could get before hand. I really didn't think about that. He did tell me that he would have a list of medication to get when I get there. So of the stuff that you named (asside from prescriptions) would be easier to get ahead of time. I thought of another question....Do they use a catherater (sp)? -

Hi, That's sounds really nice. I haven't had much time to be on here for the last couple of weeks so I missed this post. I had a reservation held w/the Towneplace Marriott until yesterday and I went ahead and changed to a different hotel. It's like 10 miles from Dr. K (I think). Hopefully, we won't get lost. It's also a suite w/a microwave and fridge. I will post more about the hotel when I get back on the 23rd for anyone else that wants to know. Thanks for remembering me:) -
What part of NC is the company in?

He told me just to do a low-carb diet similar to South Beach. He said that he prefers SB over Atkins. So far, I have only read this thread and a few other sites, so I still probably doing a SB/Atkins combo. I don't really know the difference other than lean meats. I think I will like SB better, no counting carbs and I can have nuts!! The sf jello I got has a SB stamp. I hope I am doing it right. I am going to try and skim the book tonight. Thanks!!!

Thanks for responding supergenius....I am more excited about surgery than this pre-op diet. It's good so far, but I am on day 1. I am grateful I just have a low-carb and no a liquid diet or something. I ended up not getting the salad and just had my lettuce wraps and sf jello.

Hi, I just started today for my 2 week pre-op diet. For breakfast I had 2 turkey sausage patties and 2 boiled eggs. Snack- string cheese For lunch, I brought some lettuce rollup (turkey and cheese) and Jello. I thought about getting a small side salad, but it has pecans in it. Are pecans okay for the 1st 2 week? I just got the book last night from a friend and I haven't had a chance to read it. Thanks for any info.

I have been with Cingular, Verizon (twice), and Sprint. I currently have Verizon. Verizon has been great. I have only had one problem so far and they cleared it up immediately. I have the cheapest plan and add 250 text/picture messages for $5 a month. The customer service has been excellent. I get free Verizon to Verizon which is helpful b/c a lot of people I know have Verizon. Cingular was cool...No complaints. I hated Sprint. I broke my contract to get away from them. I had so many problems and nothing was resolved until I turned them into the BBB.

Congratulations on your surgery Sheila. I am so glad everything went well... -
DH not 100% with me.

Is he going to be there if you get diabetes, high blood pressure, pulmonary hypertension, eye disease (Cataract and Glaucoma), sleep apnea, heart problems? I'm not married, but my parents have been for 34 years and I see my dad take my mother to these appointments weekly. Is your health worth risking your husband being mad for a little while? If your not going to do it, I just don't see why it's not your decision. -

True, I could....But then I have to factor in transportation and a day of messed work plus the inconvenience. I wish there was a way to know how many fills you will need before hand to get to your "sweet spot." With my luck will probably be a lot. Or I will get home and be overfiled. I am going to keep shopping around. $1,500 does seem like an awful lot. I checked the fillcenterusa and there is nothing @ all in NC. -

I thought about going back @ least for my first fill, but I think I will just find a doctor here. For me it will be to complicated/expensive to fly back and forth. I would probably have to miss a day of work, get a taxi to the office, and travel alone. If the flight was cheaper from NC I would consider it more. I am shocked @ how much the fills cost here though. I am going to check around a little more, but the doctor I am leaning towards charges $1,500 (including $500 initial fee) for the whole year. Depending on how many fills I would get in a year, I guess overall it may not be that bad. This is the best deal I have found and he's like 20 minutes away. -
Cool, that sounds a lot better than Atkins...Thanks:)

So, from reading the description there is no counting of carbs? You just eat the foods allowed? Correct?

Hi, I am also scheduled for surgery in February. I am having surgery in Denver on 2/20/07. I live in Durham and I am still trying to decide on my aftercare doctor. I have found a few options, so I know I will have something. Everyone around here is sooo expensive. I would appreciate any recommendations on someone. Thanks!!
-
I live in NC, but I am having my surgery in Denver, CO for $9,950 w/Dr. Kirshenbaum. Price did play a role of course and MX isn't going to work for me. I think he includes 3 months of fills. The cheapest fills I have found around here is $1,500 for a year (that includes a $500 initial fee). That's still expensive to me.

Would you go on a date with someone who didn't ask you out until you lost weight?
skyeblu79 replied to ser123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't think you can help what you like, but I still think it's shallow. That can go way beyond fat people, really skinny people, ugly people, etc. Have you ever taken the time to get to know someone and they even started looking better to you? I have. I dated this one guy that kept asking me out for about a year or so. I wasn't attracted to him @ all....I ended up getting to know him and he was a great guy. We weren't a good fit, but he had a great personality and I even started to think he looked better. I was being shallow. I knew he was nice guy, just no facially attractive. I was afraid about what my friends and family would think. I have changed a lot though. I have dated a lot of nice looking guys that were losers. And about fat not being appealing. There are plenty of people that don't feel like that even though America wants us too. One of my bestfriends married a really attractive overweight guy. She likes fat guys. I have another friend the same way. -
I am supposed to follow a South Beach like Diet for my pre-op diet (14 days). Is there a limit to the amount of carbs like Atkins (ex: 20 carbs- induction)? Or do you just eat the good carbs that are listed in phase 1?
