Hi everyone My name is Martie, I'm 51 and I have decided to have the lap band surgery. I must admit that I am somewhat nerveous but I need to do this. I do have a few questions that perhaps you, my comtemporaries, might be able to answer. How long is this surgery? Is it a long hospital stay? How soon before you go back to "normal" activities (work, errands.) This question is for anyone who has had this surgery and can answer about the condition of your skin: If you had lost considerable weight, did or dose your skin sag? I really want to avoid that if that is at all possible. This is the last of my questions (for now.) I live in NYC and is there anyone out there who can tell me if your HMO paid for your surgery? I have HIP. Also (I know I said the one before this was last but), can someone recommend a surgeon? I'd appreciate any help that you can give me. Martie -
Thanks Pat. I will definately look into that.

Hello everyone, My name is Martie and today for the first time I have really thought about lap band surgery. I always said I would not do it. And I haven't. I have so many questions about this surgery. One of the more pressing things I want to know is, is there anyone who has had this surgery and has lost a significant amount of weight resulting in sagging skin? Are you 50 and over and if your skin sagged what have you done besides surgery to rectify this problem? Is there anything one can do to "rectify" this problem (besides surgery.) I am almost ashamed to say I'd rather be a big girl with skin sticking to my fat than thin and sagging skin. Somebody give me a different perspective please.

Hello Barbara My name is Martie and I have not had lap band. Actually today I have been thinking about it. Could you help me to understand your weight loss? You said you had this proceedure done in 2003 ane you've only lost 13 pounds in five years? I don't mean to be disrespectful I am really just trying to understand. You see I have some really pertinent questions that I need someone who has had signifcant weight loss to answer for me. However your sparse weight loss has also intriged me to write to you please write me back if I just misunderstood. Martie
