    September surgery buddies!!

Thank you! I hope you are right. Oh wow, that is pretty restrictive for 2 weeks. Maybe it will be ok because that is a lot of protein and protein is good for making you feel fuller. I would get lots of different flavors to at least have variety, unless you are good at having repetitive flavors. Your program is not messing around with that liver shrinking diet since that's basically no carbs. You got this! It's a temporary test of your willpower and will get easier after surgery.

Mine specifically listed premier shakes as a good option for me. I actually had several I could choose from and can mix and match as I want. It is kind of worrying to me that there are so many different protocols. What if I'm on a bad one? I'm mostly glad that my program has more options but at the same time I'm worried that a stricter plan would be more effective. I guess time will tell. What shakes did they say you can have?

I haven't started yet but the liquid diet is the part I'm not looking forward to the most. Can you have other things besides the shakes to get your protein? Like could you add some protein powder to broth? I'm not sure what you are allowed to have on your diet but I hope the time passes quickly for you!

That would be really hard then! Especially since you don't have the option to not cook the meals. Is it the actual cooking that is where the temptation is? I know you don't have a lot of time left before the liquid diet stage, but could you meal prep for her so that you just have to reheat the dishes? It might help the temptations when you don't have to be around the yummy food as long. Good luck! That would be a hard spot to be in.

I'm not yet on the pre op diet but I already made the meal plan for my family of five that are foods that they like that I don't. Luckily they all love fish, mussels and sushi and I can't stand any of it. So basically they will be eating a lot of fish for the month of sept lol.

We are having steak, asparagus and shrimp scampi! To me it's a celebration of a big change in my life. I don't think it'll be the last time I can eat these foods, but it will be a long time and much smaller portions. I'm actually looking forward to the smaller portion aspect of it. I've always wanted to be a person who ate small amounts and was satisfied, Now I'm less than a month away from that reality yay!

I don't remember the exact steps, but I just clicked on the my tickers in that drop down menu and picked the background and picked the turtle as the walker. Now if I click on the my ticker drop down it brings up a page with my ticker and some codes to paste if I wanted and a create ticker box in the upper right. Maybe you just have to complete it? Not sure and sorry I'm not much help.

I guess that does make sense. Glad to know I wasn't missing something that could have turned that off. TY!

Just as a side question- why do I have so many underlined words in my posts? I don't purposely do that at all. It's kind of annoying and weird.

I agree it is amazing the differences in the programs. Pre-op 2 weeks but split. 1st week I replace 2 meals with liquids but can eat 1 meal of solid food. Second week only liquids. Also calorie restriction of 800 max per day. Liquids allowed are protein shakes, skim milk, SF jello, SF pudding, 100% fruit juice (4 oz per day), broth, SF popsicles ,low-fat SF yogurt Post op - Same as above but can add in thinned cream of wheat, and strained cream soups. Expected to last 1-2 weeks but can only be advanced with Dr permission. Food not allowed are drinks with added sugar, caffeine or carbonation, and whole milks Pureed stage - once allowed I can add in scrambled eggs, low fat cottage cheese, mashed beans, applesauce, baby food, and any pureed fruits, veggies and meats. Not allowed is previous list plus fried foods and concentrated sweets. Expected time frame is 2 weeks but can advance as I feel comfortable. Mechanical soft - add in boiled eggs, fish, tofu, ground lean meat, low fat canned chicken and fish, canned fruits (no syrup), soft fresh fruits, soft cooked veggies, cooked cereals made with milk, beans, and toasted whole wheat bread. Not allowed crunchy foods, rice, popcorn, high-fat meats, high -fat starches. Can't advance with out Dr approval. Solid foods - life long Add foods in one at a time to check for tolerance, add in whole wheat toast, whole grain cereals, wheat tortillas and whole wheat pasta. Still not allowed whole milk, high fat foods, fried foods, popcorn, rice, and white flour.

I guess it's a difference in the Drs rules because my Dr allows 4 oz of fruit juice per day and does say any non stringy fruit or veggie as long as it's well pureed. So weird how many different ways this surgery can be handled. Chicken salad might be a good thing but at the moment meat is the big thing I'm scared to try pureed. By the time I've had a month of liquids, anything might be yummy then. So I'm collecting all these ideas, ty!

    September surgery buddies!!

Thank you for those ideas! I can actually see the carrots and cinnamon as being yummy as well as the cheese and fruit. So that gives me something I can work with. I guess I was just imagining something like a full meal being blended at once and that did not sound good at all. If I take pieces of it like fruits or veggies, I might be able to do that. Refried beans and guacamole sounds ok too. I probably can live on mashed potatoes but even though it's an allowed food, it seems like it wouldn't be that healthy. I had no idea about the protein powder not going into hot food, so thank you for that too!

I also start my pre-op diet on the 5th but my 2 weeks are split. The 1st week I can have 1 meal (high protein, low carb ) per day but the second week is only liquids. I also have to keep my calories under 800 per day - yuck. You sound very much like my twin. I have 4 different kinds of premier shakes,5 yummy sounding keto shakes, several different types of broth and canned soups that I can strain, pudding, jello and I'll buy yogurt when it gets closer. I also have a clever fox journal that has spots for pictures and measurements to keep me motivated. I'm as prepared as much as I think I can be. Thinking and preparing keeps me busy and makes the time pass faster. I get more and more nervous the closer it gets, but excited too. Can't wait to have a new me

Welcome! Do you follow that diet for both of the weeks? Mine is similar except I can only do the meals the 1st week but the second week is only liquids. Its interesting to me all the different ways that Drs guide us through this process.

    September surgery buddies!!

I agree, my brain does not want to do it lol. I'm sure we'll be ok though Yay!! Having someone go through this at the same time will be awesome. Do you have to do a liquid diet too? It seems so close and yet so far away

    September surgery buddies!!

What types of food are people planning on eating for the pureed phase? The idea of blending my food grosses me out. I think I could do baby food and I have no idea why that is any different. Baby food is expensive and blending would have seasoning so logically would taste better but just the idea of eating blended food is really hard mentally. Any good food ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I don't want to start doing that any earlier then I have to. I know its going to be tough and I'm not looking forward to it at all. You are a stronger person then I to do it when you don't have to. Welcome to the group and keep us updated on the liquid diet, especially if you find something yummy that makes it less painful.

    September surgery buddies!!

Welcome and I am having surgery the same day I'm having the bypass though. Do you have a liquid diet phase? I have to do 2 weeks and I start it on sept 5. Do you know if they weigh you before you start the liquid diet? If not then you should be ok because you are expected to lose weight on the liquid diet. So if you are below the insurance weight on the date of surgery, they should just blame the liquid diet. At least that's my hope and understanding since I'm in the same situation I think its great that you are being so successful even before the surgery, hopefully after the surgery your weight loss will continue to be amazing.

    September surgery buddies!!

Forgot to say that I just spent the last few hours making a list of dinners for me and the family to cook for 6 weeks. Its for the 2 weeks before and 4 weeks after my surgery. I want this as easy as possible on me, so for the liquid diet weeks I have the dinners being something I would not want to eat. So hopefully there will be less torture and temptation. That's the goal at least, fingers crossed.

Welcome to so many new people! This is going to be an awesome group! Make sure you are clicking on your name instead of the picture. It should be a drop down list and my surgery is towards the bottom after tickers. Tickers are neat because you can count down to surgery or the weight you have lost. Fun to me at least lol

Welcome! That's the place I'm stuck at as well. The nurses at my clinic said to be careful even going to my regular Dr because if I'm under that cut off line on any official paperwork then they can deny the surgery. So I'm just in waiting and planning mode which is why I plan and buy too much lol.

    September surgery buddies!!

I think I'm trying to deal with my anxiety by planning as much as possible. Thanks to loli_lotus I now have several really yummy sounding keto shakes as well I now probably have way more than I need for this liquid phase, but I can't predict how I'll feel after surgery so its hard to stop collecting everything that may or may not work. If only I was one of those people who could turn to exercise to deal with anxiety, but no, I still am struggling to even get into a routine.
