Almost giving up. Have not had a BMI of 40 for 5 years only 3 :(
jessicakolman posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I've been wanting to have the lapband surgery for while now. I have a BMI of 40 and have had that for about 3 years now. I believe with Blue Cross Blue Shield they require a BMI of 40 for the past 5 years or 35 with a qualifying condition like BP issues, which I don't have. I just realizaed that even 3/12 years ago I was barely a BMI of 35 so I'm worried I won't qualify. I can't wait another 2 years to have this surgery. I'm too tired of being fat. I feel so desperate to the point I may starve myself somewhat to lose this weight. I don't know what to do. -
So I have a question for you. I'm thinking of attending bot Dr. Enochs & Dr. Moran's seminar. However, I don't get my new health insurance until October 1st. Would it be smart to attend the seminars this month (September) and find out more about these doctors? Or should I simply wait till October. I'm just afraid that with the new health insurance they may justify it as a "pre-existing condition" -- and I don't want that.
My question is when you went to the seminar did they make you sign in or something?
I mean if it comes down to it I can just wait till October, but as you may know I'm just really anxious.
Let me know.

New job starting but want lap band.. question!!
jessicakolman posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So i have a small problem. I'm starting a new job this Monday (the 18th) and I'm really really excited about it. However, I want get the ball rolling when my health insurance kicks in October 1st with going to a consult for my band, appointments etc.. Do you guys think it's a good idea if I let my manager know of my plans. I'm thinking at least one appointment I'm going to need to extend my lunch break on. (I'm going to go to my primary doctor during my one hour lunch break and it may be longer. Not to mention the fact that I'm going to have to at least take 5 days off for my surgery week. I'm thinking that I'm going to include the weekend as 2 of those days so I only have to take off 3 days. So I'm just worried if I should postpone my surgery plans till after the new year or should I just tell this job how I feel. I will be working for an ob/gyn clinic as a receptionist. Give me your thoughts!! Help! -

Thank you for that advice!!! I really appreciate it!!! I guess I won't worry about it that much. -
So for basically my whole life I've struggled with my image even when I wasn't fat. When I was not fat I was ugly, when I was not ugly I just was known as the girl with the big forehead. I don't want to be any of that anymore. I just want be me. I've been making an effort to lose weight the past few years in many ways. I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a gym membership, and not to mention a personal trainer. :crying: I was going to the gym at least 6 days a week for 45min - 1hour each time. :w00t: I simply didn't see any results. Just recently I've decided to do this surgery based on the fact that this is my last hope and I'm truely desperate. I'm willing to deal with the pros and cons of this. I signed up for a seminar on September 8th here in Raleigh, NC. I've decided to get the "REALIZEBand" and I'm going to Pinehurst,NC by Dr. Kenneth Mitchell. As much as I'm excited, I'm starting a new job this Monday and my health insurance won't kick in until October 1st. I will be un-inusured for the whole month of September. I don't know if it pointless to go to the seminar even though I won't have the insurance information. But at least I"ll get important information. At this moment i'm going from working at a hospital to a doctor's office, so I hope the insurance is the same over there, cause I don't want to feel like I got screwed. I'll keep you posted on what I find out about the seminar and inform you when I will get the ball rolling on this. Wish me luck

I recently have looked for a surgeon to do my surgery. I work at REX and I've heard good things from the nurses. From what I hear Dr. Moran is not very personable. Dr. Enochs is much more then Dr. Moran. The OR manager I work with is going to do some investigating and find out more information. Previously, I was looking into Dr. Kenneth Mitchell Jr. in Pinehurst. However I learned that his mortality rate is 4% and that kind of freaks me out. I plan on attending the seminar next month. Anyone who has any thoughts specifially on Dr. Enochs, let me know!
