  1. Thank you for your encouraging words! I am nearing the end of all my pre-op clearances; I will keep you posted on my progress. Have a Blessed evening. Catina
  2. Good afternoon! I just became a member today! I had a gastric band in June 2009 and had it removed June 2021. I am currently in the process of getting another WLS. I am interested in getting the gastric sleeve; but I have to make sure I don't have any esophageal damage from the band. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I haven't told many people because of the issues I had with the band and some the negativity I have heard and still hear regarding WLS. I welcome any advice or experiences that anyone is willing to share regarding revision surgery. Thank you!
  3. I really appreciate your response to my question. I'm almost complete with my clearances. I met with my surgeon next month and I'm sure we'll discuss the surgery and surgery date. My 50th birthday is Oct. 29th, so I am hoping we can decide on a date in November or December! I wish you much success with your weight loss journey, and I will keep you posted regarding my surgery. Thank you! Have a great remainder of your day!
  4. A delay doesn't mean denial. Although, you may feel disheartened at the moment, everything happens for a reason. I wish you much success on your journey. This is just one obstacle to overcome before you get to the finish line. It will get better!
  5. Hello! I am in the process of converting from a band to another type of WLS. I got the band in June 2009, and had it removed in June 2021, due to complications with acid reflux. I met with my surgeon in May of this year to discuss a revision. Due to the issues with the band, he doesn't recommend the sleeve, but the bypass. I am nervous about the re-routing and the fact that I am almost 50. My current weight is 250 lbs. Would you be able to share some of your experiences/challenges before, during and after the revision surgery? I have completed most of my clearances and will meet with the surgeon on September 1st--I think during that visit we will discuss my surgery date and the type of surgery. I appreciate any insight you can provide. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your input. I definitely don't want to go through any of the issues with the sleeve that I went through with the band. Sometimes it was really bad- I had to go to the ER--due to pneumonia. I don't want to deal with that EVER AGAIN!

Thank you! You are so correct. Most of the negativity has come from those who are uneducated concerning WLS. Rather than hear it, I only share with those who support me. I appreciate your input. Your story seems similar to the issue I had with my gastric band. With the band when I ate too much or ate too fast, I would feel nauseous. Are there any warning signs with the bypass?

I appreciate your reply. What are (if any) the minor/major differences between the 2 procedures. I think the only thing that concerns me is the rerouting. However, I don't want to get a sleeve if it can cause damage to my esophagus. I think that is my surgeons concern also. Because I had a rough time with the band---but most of that was me also, not doing/eating what I was supposed to. I meet with the surgeon again on Sept. 1st, so we'll see what he suggests.

Thank you! I was having issues with the band, and that's why the surgeon was suggesting the bypass. I've heard of some sleeve patients that had revisions to the bypass. I think I'm just leery of the whole rerouting. I wish you much success, you only have 4 weeks! Please stay in touch and let me know how you like the bypass as opposed to the sleeve. I have an appointment with my surgeon on September 5th. I'll let you know what he suggests! *September 1st, not 5th.

You're welcome! I had gastric banding in June 2009, and had it removed last year June. I realized that I wanted to get another WLS in May 2022. So, I called Aetna to see what my out of pocket expense would be. When I had my band removed last year, my total out of pocket cost was $50. I'm not sure the final cost for this surgery, as it will be based on the # of days I will stay at the hospital. I want to get the gastric sleeve, but not sure. My surgeon may recommend gastric bypass, due to the issues I had with the band. I still have concerns about that---I don't know how I feel about rerouting! I chose the same surgeon who did my gastric banding. I set up the appointment in May and I've been completing all of the necessary clearances and pre-op items.

Good afternoon, I have Aetna. I was told that I have to complete 6 months of an approved weight loss plan. I started an approved weight loss plan a couple of months ago, but not sure if it's acceptable or not because it wasn't with a dietician. Prior to consulting with the surgeon, I contacted Aetna directly and asked what were some of the requirements, and what my out of pocket expense would be. I wish you much success!
