Help! Redness (looks like a big hive), no tenderness but warm to touch on tummy
neci916 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my band placed in 2004 (mexico patient). Tonight, when I got home from dinner and kept feeling tightness on my tummy, looked like it was a bit swollen, like I had a reaction to something initially. Now, it's 5 hours later, when I bend, I feel the swelling, like I am bending "over something." A bit of warmth to touch. Not a lot of history w/pbing or anything. Does this sound like a port infection? The area covered is around the port. My last care was in DC, but, I am no where near the area. I know I have got to be seen, but, I don't think any docs here will know what to do. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! -

I have seen a doc in DC. I had an upper GI w/fluro. Everything looks good, blood panels came back great. So, I will have a endoscopy done next week, if all is well, it's not the band. And, the great thing is that I will get a fill the following day. The redness subsided and most of the pain on it's own, over the past few days. We will see... Thanks for input and concerns. -
My youngest dau. is 5 now, she had severe reflux, it caused her to have raspiness to the point of needing speech therapy. Sometimes when the band is too tight, you have reflux a lot, your vocal cords may have been damaged from the acid. But, prilosec and the other meds are supposed to help with it. It's taken about 1/5 years for her raspiness to go away, but, she had the reflux for a few years, too.

Yes, outside of Walter Reed. I have read about it on other threads. Do a search for tricare and lapband.

Ouside of WR, people are getting covered. What area are you in? I am not opposed to Mexico, I was banded there. I didn't know this info at the time and lived in the Region.
-
they are supposedly doing it, too. Call WRAMC to confirm what other hosp is doing it.
-
Tricare does cover it. Try calling Walter Reed, Dr Long's office maybe they can tell you more? Keep checking, don't give up like a lot of us did...we were out of pocket, when we didn't have to be.

Where in Columbia are you? I am in NE Cola. How long does it take you to get to Fl for the fill? I am so excited to be re-filled and back on my filled bandwagon. BUT, it will definitely take some getting used to. However, I want to stay on it with my fills so this journey came be pretty much over. You can email me privately, too.

Where do you get your fills? How much are they? I moved to Sc from DC. I was orig banded in Mexico, fills while living in DC. Looking for someone reasonable nr here. I only paid $200 per fill in DC. You are doing a great job, keep it up! I am sure the cardio is really helping a lot! -
Good morning, I recently relocated to Columbia. Found a doc but, they charge $500 for a Mex patient only $100 for US. It's really too bad how they do us.

Looking for South Carolina Fill Dr.

I spoke to them, too. It was going to be 100 for a fill if banded in the states. 500 in Mexico. I expressed to them that if they would fill us they would definitely get business. What happens to people with pacemakers or anything else this is quite frustrating!
