  1. Welcome to all the new people! I am new too! I had my Gastric Bypass RNY on June 7, 2022. I am 44 married +22 years to my high school sweetheart with 16 and 12 year old daughters. I live in northwest Florida. This board has answered so many questions, some before I knew I had them😂 . The people are great and super supportive. This is a wonderful resource.

    Surgery next week

Just keep reminding yourself 2 things: 1)I just had major surgery is more then OK to take it easy, it's necessary. My body is healing. 2)I need to follow my eating plan so my stomach can heal properly. J B. It may not always be easy but in the long run you'll be happy you did. This is an amazing tool towards your weight loss. You got this!

    Pizza! No flour!

That sounds interesting. What I liked about this is it was very close to the real thing. My hubby was dumbfounded. He couldn't believe how much it tasted like pizza. I was meant to have leftovers but my oldest ate them. 😂

    Pizza! No flour!

I think you could cook it longer and get a crisper crust or make it thinner maybe 7 or 8 inches round and get a more crispy crust. The way I made mine it was actually more dough like. It really seemed like pizza. And I like pan so I didn't let it get crispy. 😋

    Aiming for Perfection

Pre-opp I was a person that soothed with food. I also rewarded with food and did everything else with food. Kinda how I ended up in my current fix. Therapy has helped A LOT. Now I reward by going to paint, having a sister night, self-care massage etc. And I soothe the same way. By doing things that are rewarding to me, make me feel good instead of riddle me with guilt. I am tempted to cheat but I'm afraid of dumping. That fear keeps me honest... so far. I am not so naive to think I will never cheat and when I do I'll give myself grace, pick myself up, dust myself off and start again on the right track. It's all about starting over. Let this be a learning lesson and not a stumbling block.
  7. I have problems with constipation so I take Colace and Benefiber. It helps. I still only have a BM every 4-5 days. I'm thinking that may be my new norm because of how little I eat and I don't have any pain or discomfort. If your pain doesn't ease by tomorrow I would call your doctor. You may have a hemorrhoid or tear that needs medical attention. Meanwhile I would be taking the max dose of Stool softener and Benefiber.

    Cheating during post op

You need to careful. It's awful early to start slipping. With this surgery there is a promise we make to ourselves to eat better. It would be upsetting to say the least if you went through major surgery and A) lost and then gained it all back or not lose all the weight you want to in the first place. You are also still healing. Be kind to your tummy. This is an opportunity to succeed where you may have struggled before, you got this. Shake off the slip and come back more committed then ever. You can do this!

    Leg cramps from Hell!!!

Bananas help. I've also found elevating my legs helped.

Much less pain after 1 week mark

Very good to hear you're feeling better! Just remember you've had major surgery and even though your feeling on the mend 1 week out is not the time to push your limits. Still take it easy for 2-3 more weeks minimum.

Starting new journey what was your timeline

My insurance covered nothing. Also I work in the school system so once the decision was made I was anxious to get my surgery done as close to the beginning of summer as possible so I would have the summer to heal and miss as little work as possible. I am taking on a new position in the 2022-2023 School Year and was told that frequent absences would not be good. I'm leaving a situation where I was part of a team and easily covered, to a position where I am alone and have to have a substitute. I saw my surgeon for the first time on April 29, 2022. He explained the sleeve and the bypass and ask if I had a preference. I had done some research of my own and wanted the gastric bypass RNY. He agreed that was the best choice for my case with my co-morbidities. I was given the tests that I would need to take but he used a lot of my existing tests because I was self pay and I already had a Psychologist that was ready and willing to write a letter, so I didn't have to wait for that. I went back May 27th with all my clearances and tests done and he made it my pre-opp appointment, knowing I was anxious to get it done soon. We scheduled my surgery for June 7,2022. I went in on June 7, 2022 and had a routine surgery with no hiccups. I was released from the hospital June 9, 2022. Follow- up with my surgeons PA (Just as awesome) was a week later and I saw the dietician then to. I talked to the dietician 5 weeks after that and she checked to see how I was progressing into soft food. I will get to start slowly adding solid food on August 4th but I will hold off until the weekend in case it doesn't go well. My next appointment with the PA and the dietician is in the office on September 15. I was able to return to light duty on July 11th. No heavy lifting but lots of walking (4000-7000 steps a day). I actually ran a couple times and didn't die!!! I hope this helped😊

    Before and After Pics

So not at the end goal yet but 56lbs down and I'm shocked at the change in my face! I look a little worn out in the lighter picture because I spent the morning getting sunburnt at a carwash to raise money for band.

  19. Alright my friends! I talked to my dietician yesterday and she said I can start Solid Food in 2 weeks. I am to slowly start introducing new foods at that time so I know what I'm tolerating and what I'm not. So far I've had carnitas minus the tortillas, eggs, bacon, grilled chicken, tuna, peaches, applesauce, ham and yogurt on the soft food diet. I just kinda have those in rotation. I'm excited about incorporating more food but I'm not 100% where to start. It has to stay low carb per my nutritionist. I'm to avoid high carb/ high starch food for at least the next 6 months. Honestly I think I will avoid them the rest of my life. So here's my question... where do I start? I was wondering if salads are back in play or if that's too much ruffage and not enough protein. Advice? I look forward to your answers.

Starting Solid Food- where to begin?

Also is not that I have to limit carbs- she didn't give me a # but she was happy that i was staying around 30 carbs a day, I'm just to get them from fruit- veggies instead of bread, pasta, rice etc. Which is fine. And I think it's true for everyone that protein comes first then fruits/ veggies. Honestly I think the first thing I'll try is sliced tomatoes. That's a food I miss.

    Stalls - How many

I am 6 weeks out and just came out of my 1st stall. It was super frustrating! I would talk to your nutritionist about it too to see what they say. Seems like a lot of stalling to my newbie mind.
  23. So today I was walking down the hallway at work and I realized I could see my legs... silly but pre-surgery I had a Buddha belly, almost pregnantish. I could only see belly if I looked down. It was a treat to see something else. Another victory is my 16 year old seems to be warming up to me being around her in public, like at her band events and such. Not 100% if that weight related or her maturing or a combo but a good feeling. Nice not to embarrass the kiddos.

    Pre op

Nicotine can also affect how you heal. I know it's frustrating but they have your best interests in mind. Also you know that nicotine is not recommended post surgery right?

    Workout Partner or Workout advice

I'm starting to just do simple workouts I've found on Pinterest around different areas of my body and walking. I'm 6 weeks out from surgery and trying to move more and not count work. Even though I come home pooped. Just start moving. Anything is better then nothing. The more you do the easier it will get to do more.
