2nd Day Post Op
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Clea123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got really intense headaches in the morning when I woke up and at night. Felt like spikes being driven into my head. I found getting all my liquid in helped. Really pushing fluids. Also got better when I started eating full liquid and could have yogurt and such. I had surgery June 7th. -

Jello is your friend! It will let you at least have something solid but still counts as a liquid. -

I recommend a stool softener combined with Benefiber(I use the Walmart generic). I went from very difficult bms every 4-5 days to much "easier" bms everyday. -
Full liquids - Veggie Soup

I would talk with your team. You have them for a reason. Can you just omit the tomatoes from your soup? Maybe replace it with something else? -

I would play it safe and space them 6 weeks apart since both involve Anesthesia and you really don't want to play around with it. Talk to both providers and see what they say. -

Eating/Drinking on a Road Trip: 4-5 Weeks Post-Op
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to KevinS62's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am in my 8th week and Tuna Salad is a lifesaver. Easy to make, full of protein and has flavor! Also very easy to just put extra mayo to make it more... liquidy? I would try the new stuff before you leave that way you know what you can tolerate. At Taco Bell I get a chicken soft Taco with Pico and no Lettuce and don't eat the tortilla. It's filling, has FLAVOR (I've missed flavor! ) and good source of protein. When I went on a road trip I survived on scrambled eggs and protein Shakes. I would definitely try the new things before you leave. -

Yeah the desks were my enemy! I felt embarrassed each time I had to push myself out because I just couldn't simply get up-I was wedged in. -

So pre-surgery I was wearing 3-4XL T- shirts at work. Part of pre-planning this year we were given 2 school T-shirts and I got AND FIT the XL! Total shocker-i knew when I picked XL I might still have some weight to lose but nope! It fit nicely! I'm 8 1/2 weeks out and ounces away from 60lbs and I fit an XL!!! So tickled! -

I was able to sit at a student desk! Last year(my surgery was June 7th)I literally had to wedge myself into the desks and push myself out... today I sat in one and had room to lean back. I mean it was actually not uncomfortable. Total 180 from end of school last year. Quite tickled! -

That's important to do especially on the days you don't want to. I'm in the waiting room of my therapist now, waiting my turn. I was fortunate that I've had the same therapist for almost 30 years now on and off. He's known me as a teenager to now. So we had talks pre-surgery about the instant gratification that bad food is so good at giving and ways to replace caring for myself by shoveling down a pizza with better, more constructive self care. After surgery has been monitoring my mood and letting myself be proud of how far I've come and the major steps I took. The examples I'm setting for my girls, the humongous change for the better I've made in my life and all the places I'm seeing improvement. Also focusing on the reasons I had the surgery and the things I'm looking forward to as I get smaller. When I hit 200 I'm going kayaking... I've always wanted to but was worried if I fell off I wouldn't be able to pull myself back up. I know it sounds silly but list the reasons why you had the surgery, what you want to accomplish, who inspired you to get healthier. It may help if you can see on paper what you want. Then try each day (just try, it's ok if you don't succeed) to do 1 thing that healthy and nice for you. Go stand outside for 10 minutes on a sunny day. Stretch. Take a walk. Start making yourself a priority even when the voice in your head is telling you different. You deserve to be happy and loved and appreciated. This is based on things that help me. -
Terrible pain in the recital area - 28 days post
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Supafly82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think when I start introducing more fiber into my diet by way of complex carbs I'll be able to trade off and lessen the "helpers". I'm only 6 weeks out and can start introducing different solids on Thursday. Honestly I'm going to avoid pasta, bread, rice etc. Cause they will be my undoing and I fear dumping and going back. I will be introducing more veggies though and that should help with moving things along more naturally. There are worse things to have to do. -

I take the Benefiber that dissolves in liquid. Actually the Walmart generic version. 2tsp full in 8oz of whatever water flavor I'm drinking 30 minutes after I eat, 3x a day. It dissolves great and I don't taste a thing. I don't like it in unflavored water because my brain(silly brain) tells me it's thicker then regular water and I struggle. In flavored water(think crystal light) I have no issues. I have gone from a bm every 4-5 days to daily- maybe 2 days between bms. I also take 3 Ducolax stool softener a day. These 2 combined have helped me greatly. -
What do you do instead of eating?!
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Lornapc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 6 weeks out to. I don't really feel hungry too often but I've got myself on a schedule for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My body knows when food is coming. If I feel like eating between meals I ask myself why and typically it's boredom and/or old habits trying to creep back in. Have to keep that door slammed shut. As someone said earlier if you do stumble don't focus on that, focus on getting up, dusting off and getting back on your plan. Therapy may help you recognize better when your legit hungry and when emotions are wanting to be stuffed. It will also help you recognize the emotions, face them and allow yourself to leave the negative behind, refocus your energy and discover what you like to do. I did pottery before but I'm finding myself more patient with it then before. I hand build and my pieces are more successful. I've also gotten more into self-care. I'm keeping my legs shaved, exercising more, goodness my 16 year old is giving me makeup tips! I used to not wear any at all but I find I'm more confidant with it. Only it's been 10+ years so I ask her if she could advise me. It been something thats drawn us closer. My youngest (12f) does the switch boxing game with me. We workout together and get some good laughs at our efforts. Once school starts I only have 1 free evening a week! I'm volunteering with my high schools band (my daughter is in it and I work there) 2-3 times a week, I have pottery 1 time a week and then miscellaneous things the other 3. Now is the time to try new things. Things you haven't done in a long time because you were too big or things you always wanted to try but your size helped you back. Carpe diem! Seize the day! You got this! -

Oh my gosh that is one for me too! Also not panting like I ran a marathon after I get them on. I clipped my toe nails yesterday and it was SO EASY! No crazy twisting to try to reach them. Not having to rest in between. It was great! -

I can now put my legs(one at a time) up on the sink counter after a shower and dry them off. I could before but with constant concern of falling. Now I'm practically a gymnast in there. I'm shaving my legs on a regular basis! Self care has actually become something I enjoy doing!! -

That's awesome! I'm almost off all my medical meds and had to decrease some of my mental meds because of how I was tolerating them. -
How do they check you stomach before surgery
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Trixxx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would've had to get an endoscopy but I had one in their network less then a year before. I had bloodwork, EKG, and a chest x-ray. I already had a Psychologist that I saw regularly that was ready and willing to write me a letter and my doctor accepted that and my Cardiologist had to sign off. That one had me sweating because he was a skinny little man that was always after me about losing weight but was NOT supportive about WLS. He actually told me to just stop eating. He did write the letter but he took his time. 😕 I have a new, more supportive Cardiologist now. -

What surgery are you getting? How much you get post-op will be up to your doctor and the plan he/she puts you on. I had 4-1oz cups that I was too drink every hour after the 24 hour no liquids of any kind was lifted because my barium study came back showing no leaks. I had RNY. After that I moved to full liquids and came home from the hospital on full liquids tolerating around 4oz at a time. -
New Member/Revisions
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to CDMC1972's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't speak on revisions but when I was deciding on sleeve over bypass everything I read told me bypass was more effective and my doctor confirmed it. As far as warning signs there aren't any, you will start to feel full and a "heaviness" and very uncomfortable. If you eat too much too fast you may regurgitate/ throw up. Your pouch will only take what it can take. In the 7 weeks since my bypass surgery I've thrown up 2x and each time I wasn't paying attention and either took too big of a bite or ate too much too fast. I also went from GERD every other night pre-op to none post-op. I'm off my Diabetes meds and IBS meds. I haven't had a single regret. -

I'm going on a band trip in March (my surgery was June 7,2022). They were talking about roller coaster rides and zip lines and hike, oh my! It was the first time I didn't cringe because I've already lost 57 and have 6 months to lose at least 50 more. I can go on the fun rides without fear of not fitting! -
You could just omit it or add a little mozzerella or even a different Shredded cheese like Italian combo or cheddar. Not sure how that would effect the taste.
