Hard time keeping vitamin c + iron chewable’s down
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suffered through the chewables until 6 weeks out when my doctor allowed me to switch to capsules. Such a happy day, that day! Celebrate has been the brand for me. -

Tomato should be fine though I would follow our peers warnings and try a little at a time at first. Great Luck today! -
Roux En Y tomorrow

I always felt like it was bittersweet leaving the hospital. The almost immediate pain relief but the still not being able to relax 100 percent. I was queen of the corridors! Good luck at home! -
had surgery yesterday
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Nina35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had low pressure 100lbs ago and it's even lower now (91/60) and was told by my cardiologist that as long as that's the only thing going on then it's fine. My hubby worries about it but professional doctor has said all is ok. As far as the bloated goes that's the joy of post-op laparoscopic surgery. All I can say is walk, walk, walk. It will help your body absorb the gas and then last but not least the constipation... personally I would give it a week. Your body needs to shake the anesthesia and the shock of having everything re-routed. If it's really concerning you or causing you discomfort, call your doctor. My personal experience was I started out very slow and far between with my BM's and they were HARD, Like concerns I was going to pass out on the potty from straining HARD. I added colace to my daily medication and I have an almost everyday bowel movements since. I know others that use benefiber or miralax. You just have to see what works for you. -
Roux En Y tomorrow
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Christina B1128's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had pain and took the pain meds. My doctor was kind enough to make it liquid. Nothing too serious. Remember to move/walk because if they are doing it lapriscopically there will be A LOT of air that needs a place to go. The shoulder pain I got from that was the worst. It had me up and walking the entire floor of the hospital asap. The pain was never bad though and I was up and moving once I was put in my room. -
I had to crush ALL my meds for 6 weeks. I came out of the hospital off my diabetes medication and high cholesterol medication. The only meds I was on were my vitamins and mental meds. I got the chewable Celebrate baritric ones (search Bariatric vitamins on Amazon). They were pretty nasty crushed up. I just used one of my 10ml medicine cups, poured some of my crystal lite fruit punch into it, poured the crushed on top of that and do it like a shot with my fruit punch as chaser. So, so, so, gross. I also had to open my tablets (omeprazole) and pour it into my shot. So that was me.

Jealousy from others?
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to luvcanasta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been fortunate enough to have the majority of my family/friends/coworkers have been very supportive and I think the funniest thing is dresses I wear now that I wore 100 lbs ago I get mega compliments. I do have a few "friends" that keep close track of my weight loss and comment about how they've found the weight I lost and things like that, but I have noticed a distance as I get closer to my ideal weight from some people. I feel lucky that I have not had a lot of nay sayers in my world, but I have had people distance themselves. I'm also VERY open about my surgery. I feel like that's important to be said here. If someone compliments me on my weight loss and asks how I did it, I tell them I had RNY and my before and after story. I'm sure there's talk behind my back about "the easy way" and things like that but I just refuse to let the negative in. -
Stomach discomfort & confusion post op
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found when I felt "funny" early on it was usually 6+ hours since my last intake of nutrients. A schedule definitely helps in the beginning. -
DON'T pack a lot. Wear the gown they give you so if there's spillage or anything like that it's on their stuff and you can get a clean gown anytime you want. I wore 1 with the opening to the back and 1 with the opening to the front at the same time. That way when I went walking no one was getting a free show and I didn't have to worry about keeping it closed. Phone charger with extra long cord, maybe something to read. They have stuff for you to wash your body and hair with that will get you by the 1 or 2 times you shower there. Wear home what you wear to the hospital just take clean panties(and have some spare) for when the cath comes out and slippers because they will want you walking around. Take everything you can extra home with you. You really don't need a lot in the hospital

Constipation
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Flapjack71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take colace every day. It's part of my meds. I'm pretty regular now at 7 months out having an almost a daily "deposit". My problem was hard bowels, for risk of TMI - my body was trying to poo boulders - so the colace was the answer for me. I haven't had a problem since I started taking it. If it's getting it moving I would get a fiber supplement. Miralax is a favorite among our crowd and I am sure we have some that have recommendations for tried and true fiber. I used benefiber for awhile and I liked that I could mix it in ANYTHING without an added taste or after taste. -
Hunger coming back
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Quesodip251's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm just over 7 months and I would say hunger pains started to come back last month into this month. Remember this surgery is a TOOL... Not an answer to all things edible. It helps us on our journey but it's still our journey and we have to be responsible for it. If it helps anyone, I can easily eat a 5pc kids' meal from Chik-Fil-A and usually finish the waffle fries. I still eat protein 1st and don't drink and eat at the same time but I probably wait 15-20 minutes vs 30. If I want it, I eat it (except for simple carbs, leaning on the sweet side- I'm terrified of dumping again - once was enough). -

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So this is a weird-backwards non-scale victory, but I guess it is one. Back in September I fell at work and landed on my shoulder. I did serious enough damage to need surgery (recovering from it now) and my hubby pointed out how bad the fall could've/would've been had I been 100lbs (give or take) heavier. Not to mention recovery is a lot easier when you don't have a big (no pun intended) issue standing or sitting and can be down one arm because I no longer need it to push off the couch when I get up. I move easier, there's less of me to maneuver around, and even when they prepped me for surgery and had the IV in my left hand and had put a nerve block in my right shoulder (making my entire arm/hand totally numb and unusable) and wanted me to scoot over to the operating table, I was able to do it SO MUCH EASIER then I was able to 100lbs ago with both arms working. And happy side note - my oversized t-shirts are great for recouping from shoulder surgery.😊I've gone from 3XL-4XL to XL. So glad I didn't toss all of them! -
How was the 2 week liquid diet
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to ShannyG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately, the liquid diet is a must, it allows your newly formed stomach a break to focus more on healing then on eating. Jell-O helped me a lot on the liquid diet because I would very intentionally chew it so I felt like I was eating SOMETHING, it also allowed me to have variety, flavor wise, and will help (I think) with hydration. You could get popsicle molds and freeze the Gatorade Protein Drinks and get a different texture and the nutrients you need at the same time, that may help. Family eating the good food in front of you is something (I feel) you have to come to terms with. It's a little bit of a butthead move to do it so soon after your surgery, but you can't expect them to change their eating habits because of a choice you made. You are always going to have temptation around you in one form or another, start practicing now that it's not an option and you're not even considering it. My hubby was very hung-up post-surgery about eating things he knew I liked pre-surgery in front of me, and I told him that I couldn't expect my family to change how they ate because I made a life choice to change how I eat. I had to know they were going to eat things that I loved, in quantities that I could sneeze at pre-surgery. It eventually will become about learning what you can and can't eat and moderation. They go to Fazoli's and bring me home 2 meatballs and 1 breadstick. I would love to have 5 breadsticks because they are awesome, but I also like that I'm almost a size 14. It's all about choices and you now have a tool to help you make them. Sorry it went so long. -

How was the 2 week liquid diet
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to ShannyG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not to be a party pooper but don't you have to be full liquid when you first come out of surgery? I had it for 2 weeks post, then pureed, then soft, then solid that I introduced very slowly. Just checking... I don't want you going to heavy too soon and hurting yourself. Every doctor is different so follow what your doctor says. -

The Liquid diet feels like forever but it's necessary to healing. I promise you will eat grilled chicken again. My first "solid" meal was scrambled eggs and they were heavenly. You'll get there. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is kinda cool. My 12 year old said she hadn't realized how much weight I had lost looking at me because she sees me everyday but the other day she was hugging me and she said her fingers have gone from not touching at all to hands overlapping and that's when she realized I had lost a lot of weight. Kinda felt good. And weird but mostly good. -

My biggest thing is my tailbone... It is just SO prominent. I have to use a pillow to drive now because it feels like I'm sitting on a rock. We have bones underneath all that padding, who knew?!😉
