This is probably going to sound silly but I have seen a lot of comments about sleeping in a recliner after coming home from surgery. Were you able to sleep in your bed? I don't have a recliner and really don't want to purchase one just for this reason but also need to be able to sleep comfortably. Would pillows propped against my headboard be sufficient? I'm having the sleeve on Nov 7th. Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you all for your suggestions and experiences. It is much appreciated. I've bought a wedge just in case I need to sleep elevated because I'm not going to buy a recliner just for this. However, I'm hoping I am lucky and can sleep without it in bed. I'm a stomach sleeper now so I'm going to have to adjust to my back so I assume the first few nights are going to be rough anyways. I am scheduled for my sleeve on Nov. 7th. My husband's family (2 to 6 people) always comes up from GA for Thanksgiving break. They sleep in a hotel but we spend the whole 4 or 5 days with them doing different things. My house is too small to entertain them all (plus me, hubby, and 4 kiddos) so being home to nap is not an option. I am worried that I'm not gonna be up to entertaining that soon after surgery. Should we ask them to reschedule or do you think you would have been up to it? They will arrive Nov 24th and be here 4 days or so. So 17 days after surgery. Holiday, Family, and Recovery
BlessedMomma91 replied to BlessedMomma91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you all for your advice and experiences. I've already discussed with my husband that I will not be going out to eat with them. I don't want to tempt myself and cause anxiety when it isn't necessary. I think we've decided that only his grandparents will come to visit this time so there isn't too much chaos and we can entertain them at our home. We will see the others in the spring. Holiday, Family, and Recovery
BlessedMomma91 replied to BlessedMomma91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They are driving. Nope I do not work outside the home. I am a stay at home mom and wife. My husband will be off work while they are here due to the holiday break so I will have his help too. I don't think going home to nap would be an option. However, maybe cutting the days a little shorter would work. Thank you both! -
I second the Fitbit. I have a charge 4. The watch itself tells me my step count, heart rate, water count, and a few other things. However, you have to have the fitbit app for it to work and do all these things. Plus the app offers everything from my step count, heart rate, sleep patterns, fitness history, food journaling, stress management, calories burned and much more. They have a free and pro version. I've had the same watch and original band for a few years now. I have a screen protector on it. The fitbit is reliable and seems accurate. Each fitbit version has different features so be sure to check for what ones are important to you. Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

I've used the Carb Manager app in the past to track my nutrition and linked it to my fitbit. However, their nutrition info on a lot of things were off. It was annoying always correcting it or creating my own for simple things. I tried the Baritastic app the last few days but I don't like how you can only create recipes using servings sizes instead of actual weight. (Example: I cook Soup for me and my family and it equals 65 ounces of food. I eat 20 ounces. It will calculate the nutrition info of exactly what I ate instead of guessing serving sizes especially since I cook for 6 people.) I am pre-op still (surgery in Nov.) but want to find a reliable, easy to use, accurate food and fitness journaling app. Any suggestions? Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

Help! VSG or Bypass
BlessedMomma91 replied to RaisnHL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on the fence too. Back in February/March I was sure I wanted the sleeve. My main reason is it won't mess with my mental health meds. Now I'm hearing horror stories of sleeve patients getting GERD and being forced to get the bypass for relief. I don't currently take any meds for acid reflux except an occasional Tums/Rolaids. So do I get the sleeve and risk getting GERD and hoping I have the funds later to get a revision or do I just get the bypass now and risk my my mental health meds not working? It took me years to finally find a medicine that helped my anxiety/OCD and I don't want to risk going down that terrible road again. However long lasting severe physical pain from the GERD is not good either. I may not have the finances later to get the bypass for relief. Decisions... decisions... I am still pre-op and hoping to have my surgery in October but it looks like it may be pushed to January or February. All the things you mentioned are huge fears of mine. I started at just over 300 and I'm 5'4". Currently I'm held back my weight because I can't run with my kids or join them at water parks (much more to mention) and take a lot of meds. However, I'm fairly active now. We walk 2 miles a day (I try to get 9000 steps a day) and there's always errands and practices to do with 4 kiddos. I'm tired all the time now but it's manageable. I don't want to become weak on top of constant fatigue especially since I have young kids and a husband. I have a high muscle mass ratio now and don't wanna lose that. I grew up on a farm and now live in town but still considered strong "for a woman." I don't want such saggy skin that I look much older or sick. These are some of things making me apprehensive about the surgery too. Everyone tells me it's still worth including family who have had wls. However, being constantly tired and weak worry me. Skin removal will not be option for me because we are on 1 income and budget closely to make that work. Surgery is already costing too much. I have OCD and worry my obsession/compulsion will transfer to my food. Thank you for your insight. I hope you find a good medium with your diet so you're not obsessively thinking about it. And please know you are still you. You still have all those amazing qualities. You just have to find yourself again after such a huge change. Your whole life has been rerouted and your brain has to accept it first. You were a workaholic and now your obsess over your food instead. You redirected your skills. Now find something else to direct it too such as a hobby or make food fun with new recipes so it doesn't seem like a chore. Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

How often did you get up to walk? I know that it's important to not get blood clots but fatigue can make that difficult. I'm still in the pre-op stage but worry about not walking enough after surgery. Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

BlessedMomma91 replied to mommaMel302's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm 3-4 months into my 6 month pre-op stage required by insurance to get the sleeve. I'm 31 and have 4 kiddos from ages 10 to 3. I just had my endoscopy and colonoscopy done today. So glad it's over! I live in Ohio and have been reading post from this forum for quite some time but just joined recently. Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app -
