  1. How often do you weigh yourself? I weigh myself once a week. Because of body water weight I will not weigh more then that knowing that weight fluctuates from day to day. I figure that going week to week is a good measure as to the weight loss.

    How's everyones incisions?

Mine are doing very well. Maybe on Friday when it's been 4 weeks since surgery I will be brave enough to do a one month surgerversary photo. All my incisions are looking good. Just the normal pinkness that you see after any cut until the scar is fully healed.
  3. Heya Ann!

Thanks for dropping in on my page so I thought I would return the favor and say hi and check out your page! I bet your getting excited for your up coming surgery! Best advice I can give is get out and walk right away cause it will help in a quick recovery from your surgery! Also start drinking lots of water and get away from sodas if you drink a lot of them! Best of luck hun!

  4. Hey Laurie,

I am doing really well. I've keep losing with the walking and eating right. Next week I go onto solids so I made out a menu for my wife and I that would be low fat and low carb. Next week we are also adding some exercise videos in addition to our walking to step up the weight loss program some more. I haven't had any problems with any foods other then some hot dogs that I think I just did not get mashed up enough. I have not had anything get stuck just gave me really bad stomach pains for a couple of days.

  5. Hi Ann,

I am glad that you are finding my posts helpful and encouraging. I have found so many others here to be encouraging to me and have really helped me in reading how things have gone for them. It is great to help each other out and even be there to support one another. If your wanting to work into your pre-op diet I would go ahead and get started on it. I transitioned into my pre-op diet 1 month ahead of time so when I was in full swing it was no big deal and even after surgery the liquid diets were really not a big deal to me. In fact I think it helped me be more mentally prepared then it did physically which I think is the bigger issue with almost all of us. Best of luck and keep in touch!

  6. Heya Redmom!

Glad to hear your doing well! I am up to about 3/4 of a mile every day for my walk. My wife and I walk outside since we are in South Florida were our average temp during this time of the year is in the low to mid 70's. It's the best time of the year to be in South Florida. I really am hoping to shed a few more pounds, say 50 or ss (lol), before the summer months hit so the heat is much better this year for me. Keep up the great work too!

    December 2008 Bandsters Group

I have to say I chaulk my weightloss up to three things. First is a major change in my diet. I have cut soda completely out of my diet as well as changed over to mostly a low carb diet. Secondly is I started walking every single day for exercise. Before hand I really didn't exercise at all so this was a big change for me. Thirdly is one I don't talk about much but it really has to do with how much overweight I have been. Even after losing 68 lbs in the last year I still have more then half my body weight to lose. I am 417 lbs now and plan to get down to 195 lbs. That is a good weight for me since I am 6'-3" tall and even when I was my skinniest, end of basic training U.S. Army, I was still a large frame guy. So that's the secretes to my success. Hard work, dedication, and making the band work for me right out of the gate so to speak.

    Hello

Well my weight loss was 20 lbs between January '08 til October '08 then my pre-op diet which I did over a 7 week time period I lost another 23 lbs and then since surgery (3 weeks) I have lost another 25 lbs. So in total I have lost 68 lbs. But only 25 lbs since surgery. How do I do it? I follow the diets very closely and get out and walk every day. I step up the walking every few days to push myself just a little harder. Soon I will add in some exercise videos to add more cardio to my routine. So hard work, dedication, and making the band work as a tool to help me lose.

Hey China, Personally I like the month to month challenges. Right now it's to hard for me to really know how much I would/could lose in two months time. But I will go with whatever everyone else wants to do.

I think China is planning on starting a new one of those this Friday. Working to finish this one off first.
  16. It's funny how this goes back to differing doctors and differing opinions. For me, I am not going to chance it.

Am I the only one with a 4 week post-op liquid diet?

Do you have a mushy phase at all in your post-op diet? I had two weeks liquids broke up between clear and full liquids and then two weeks mushies. Finally on Jan 5th, one month after surgery, I get to go to solids.
  18. I really don't think a couple of shots of rum will hurt you for a special occassion like new years. Although you will have to let us know how it does affect your stomach. I just am looking forward to next week getting back to be able to have solids. Sure a very small amount and have to chew chew chew but still back to real foods. LOL

    OMG I got "stuck"

OMG that total sucks! I haven't had that happen so far but it is a huge fear of mine. I am sure you won't make that mistake twice.
  20. Right exactly it is the carbination in soda and beer that we're not allowed to have. For me it's not an issue. I haven't had a soda since the middle of October and I don't miss it. I am not a drinker so turning down beer is no big deal too. I have been the type of guy that a 6 pack of beer would last me 3 plus months at a time. I really have gotten very used to drinking water. I will also have Crystal Lite and Iced Tea. I am not a coffee drinker at all so that's not anything I would drink.
  21. Really the only way I fell off the wagon was in the food choices but not the amounts. My wifes family is fully aware of my surgery and that made it very helpful. It's funny though even with them knowing I had my surgery done the things that others will offer like soda and beer. LOL - I had no problem telling them no thank you. At Christmas dinner I did have ham, yam, and cottage cheese. The ham I used the Pampered Chef Food Chopper and diced it right up real find then mixed it with mustard and a touch of LF Mayo. The yam of course was mashed with just a touch of butter. It sounds like a lot but I really had the small small amounts to keep within the diet. They had pecan pie for desert and I did not partake. But then again I don't like pecan pie. LOL

    Hello

Hello! Just 3 more days and several more having surgeries! Best of luck and here comes the new year for us all to get down and dirty with losing weight!

    Banded on Dec. 17th

Hi Angie, Congrats on your surgery! I have slowed in my weightloss with the mushies phase also. I am finding it to be one of the hardest phases because it's just difficult to know what to eat that is healthy and suited for weightloss. To me the suggestions my surgeon gave for this phase just feel so completely opposite of everything I was doing before the mushy phase. But even still I have continued to lose with losing 5.6 lbs this last week. One key is drinking lots of Water and another of course is getting out and walking every day. One thing that we have to remember is as we increase the calories consumption we need to increase the exercise to continue to burn off more then we consume. I hope this helps. Best of luck!

    new years weightloss challenge

24.6 lbs since surgery - I know I slowed down this week due to poor food choices on the mushy phase but I am already working on that. I wasn't really that prepared for the mushies like I was for the liquids. Live and learn I say. Anyway this has been great and I will do my final weigh in for December on Jan 2 and that will being my weight for the next challenge! Thanks you so much China for creating this challenge! It is so great to see you, Jewels, Sarah, and the others doing great on your weight losses! I can't wait until the day we all get to talk about how great it is to be thin!!! One more week and bring on 2009 challenges!!!
