    Banded 12/30

Congrats on getting your band! Sounds like your doing well. The pain on the port side is normal. I know I had soreness around the port incision for a couple of weeks but now after a month the only way I know I had surgery is by looking at my scars and how much easier it is for me to get full. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing how you progress!

    December bandsters

Hi Misty, Congrats on getting your band and having weight loss too! Also welcome to the forums. This is a great source to help you learn more about the band and to share what your going through with others as they are going through it too. As for Mushies I suggest checking out this thread. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/lapband-food-stages-lists-suggestions-3995/ There is a whole list in there of foods for each stage plus under the Nutrition and Diet forum there are several threads on foods for mushies. Best of luck!
  4. I tell you Veronica the world is a lot bigger. LOL I was born and raised in Oregon. While in high school I traveled a lot with a drum & bugle corps and got to see most of the nation from a tour bus. As an adult my work has taken me to Oregon and Washington State of course as well was to Idaho, Colorado, Washginton DC with working in both Maryland and Virginia, and finally down to Florida. Personally I have been to Mexico and Canada and have seen or been to about 46 of the 50 states. I have been to Alaska and Hawaii. Damn I have been all over the place for not have going over seas. LOL
  5. Yeah it was funny cause our office had a Sterling address but was right on the edge of Herdon right off of Old Ox Road. Basically right off of I think that was Hwy 24. Now speaking of Colorado when I was there I lived in Colorado Springs so that's pretty funny too. If it's been very long since you have been there it's changed and grown a lot. I was in the springs for about a year and a half. Worked on Garden of the Gods road just a short distance from the Garden of the Gods. Small world I tell you!
  6. I think the plan is about once a week that we will each weigh in. The spreadsheet is set up for every Saturday. For me I already weigh in every Friday so I'll be updating mine on Fridays. Speaking of VA I see your in Leesburg. The company I was working for in the DC Metro is actually in Sterling so I spent a lot of time tromping around your area during the work week. LOL

    Restriction with no fills?

Oh I hear my tummy growl a lot and don't feel the hunger. I think one of the hardest battles I am fighting is the mental hunger vs the physical hunger. Usually when I am hungry it's because I am bored. Atleast that's what I have noticed. So I have worked to keep myself busier and that really seems to help with the hunger thoughts. Now I know that I am hungry when I get the hunger pains. Also I try and pay close attention to knowing when I am full.
  8. Hi Angie!

Happy New Year to you too. I don't have my first fill until the 26th of January. So just a couple of days before yours. This last week I had only lost 4.4 lbs that week so this week I have been watching my foods a little closer working on lower carb dishes. Plus I have stepped up my exercising a notch. When I talk about stepping up the exericising it's just pushing yourself that little bit harder. So like with my walking it's just that much faster of a walking pace and it's also just a little further of a walk. What you might consider to is lowering your calories from 1500 to 1200. That's 300 less calories a day that you have to burn off and really is a small step when you look at lower carb foods.

Keep in touch and best of luck!

  9. I know it seems like December is a ways off but really it's just less then two months away. I finalized my surgery date yesterday for Dec. 5th with Dr. Kuri. So are there any others out there with December dates looking for support and help?
  10. Hey Kathy

No I won't be going back for fills. Just to far for me to travel. There is a fill center in Ft. Lauderdale which is about 45 minutes away that I will get my fills at.

    What did you eat today!!

The Salmon was better the night before when it was fresh. But nuked it was a little dry and we all know how dry food is. The first bite got stuck and took a couple of minutes to pass before I could finish my lunch. I made sure that eating the rest to chew it extra long. As far as "lettuce" goes it's hard to break down when you chew it. That's why the surgeons recommend to not have salad. I have a feeling tho that if you had lettuce that was finely shredded and chopped up into smaller piece like what you get in a Taco Bell Taco Salad that it would be ok. But I am only guessing on that. Haven't tried that yet. I know that at the local Winn-Dixie grocery store down here we can buy bags of shredded lettuce like that so I am tempted to try it but we will see. Really all in all food is going to very from person to person and what you can eat before a fill and after a fill can be and will be two different things.

How to overcome soda pop addiction?

Honestly it takes a good amount of work to kick any addiction. Weather it's food, soda, alcohol, drugs, work or whatever. Of course most of us on here I believe are battling food and soda addictions. But for me I have beaten one addiction many years ago. I am a recovering drug addict. I was a heavy meth user and dealer years ago. Before the weight gain. For me I had to get myself into a intensive drug and alcohol treatment program and attended NA and AA meetings for a good solid 2 years. I have been clean for over 12 years now and will never trade my life now for what I was back then. So much like my drug addiction food is another addiction that has to be battled. I do that by gaining as much support from those around me and work to change my thinking. I have to think about why am I consuming this food. Do I really need this or is this something that I want? By the grace of God I am doing very well with the fight and will continue to push forward. Migraines can be treated with medicine by a physician. I know because I am a person who has gotten migraines since I was about 10 years old. I do still get them today but I also have medication to take when I feel one coming on and deal with it in that manner. As for soda that was a hard one to stop. But I did back in October. For me it first was a change from Pepsi to Sprite to Sprite Zero to no soda at all. This actually was over a period of about 5 years but I did it. I do not drink any carbonated beverages anymore and don't even crave them anymore either. It just takes telling yourself that you don't need it and being strong to change your ways. Best of luck!
  23. Before I moved down to Florida just over 2 years ago I was in Stafford just off of Winding Creek road for about 3 and a half years and then up in Alexandria for 10 months. I was working at the Pentagon thus my yahoo name of PentagonPete. And before all that I was back in Oregon with a short time in Colorado and Idaho. I tell everyone that I am the gypsy of the family. LOL The longest I have lived in anyone place since I left home after high school was when I lived in Stafford. So yeah the snow and ice just sounds like so much fun. Not! We're enjoying our 70 and 80 degree weather with blue sky and at this time of the year lower humidity! Best time of the year to be in Florida. (especially this year with all the winter storms)
