More specifically, does anyone attend the support group meeting at Robinwood in Hagerstown on the 3rd Weds?
-
I'm only telling my husband, parents, and a few online friends.

I'm LeAnn. I'm 27 and I live near Frederick, MD. I've been married for 7 years (as of yesterday :w00t:) and we have one son, who is 3. I've just started the process of getting a lap band and I feel entirely overwhelmed. I've been approved for my surgical consults with Dr Scot Currie and I'm in the process of getting my psych eval and such. I have my first appt with the surgeon's office on Friday and I have no idea what to ask! I know (from research on the internet) that he has a good track record and he's pretty darn cute. :cool2: I'm 5'2 and 255 (BMI is 46%). I considered both banding and bypass, but I feel banding is the nest option for me. I'm young and this is both able to be reversed and it doesn't interfere with pregnancy, should we decide to have another child. The only people I've told about this surgery is my husband and my parents. And, honestly, the only reason I told my parents is because I plan on letting them keep my son. I don't plan on telling anyone else. My MIL would patronize me (despite desperately needing the same surgery, IMO) and it's just no one else's business. This is something I'm doing for my health and so I can be the mom I want to be to my son and hopefully have another baby one day. I don't want to be a fat mom forever. :wink2:

I'm hopefully having surgery within a couple of months and I have an IUD. I don't see why, but would I need to have it removed?
-
I am doing my Wii fit everyday and taking long brisk walks 4-5 times per week.

Calm down and call. I freaked right before my surgery because mine disappeared from the website, but it was fine.

Slimfast Anyone???
tomatogirl replied to PontiacMan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the low-carb slim-fast as well. My nutritionist recommended it when I told her I simply couldn't afford the expensive crap they peddle at my doc's office. -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
tomatogirl replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not THAT easy to slip your band, Molly. If it were, hundreds of pregnant women would be screwed. -
Army wife here. :rolleyes2:

How is everyone doing today? I reweighed today and have now lost 17.5 lbs (~5lbs pre-op loss).

Another Wii Fit lover here!My biggest problem is making excuse not to go out and exercise (the gym's too far, it's too cold, wah, wah, bitch, moan) and this takes away all those excuses. It may not be as strenuous as, say, running a mile, but it's SOMETHING.

Oh and I'm not hungry either, but I've been dying for sweets today. I finally broke down and had 1/4 cup of sugar free/fat free ice cream. Not too horrible, and it actually had a bit of protein in it!

I'm so excited bout missing most (if not all) of winter that I could wet myself. I grew up in lower Alabama- I had never seen actual standing snow until we moved here a little over a year ago and I HATE THE STUFF. The way it was explained to me is that you should have a referral to your doctor for ___ visits until ___insert date here___ (mine is through February. Once those are used up, you can either call Tricare and ask for more visits (usually they give them without much hassle) or go to your PCP and ask for more referrals to your surgeon.
-
I asked my nutritionist about them and she said the problem is with the 40-something gram ones, not the 26 gram ones. Your body can only absorb about 30 grams of protein at a time, so if you're using the 40+ gram ones, it's a waste. I'm going to buy a flat of them soon.

My post op appt isn't for a week yet- I'm jealous. I've got to work out the schematics of my first fill. My husband is going to school in GA for almost 3 months, so my son and I are going to stay with my parents in FL (it's a lot closer to visit from FL than it is from MD). We'll be leaving at the end of this month and my first fill should be mid-Dec, right before c'mas. BAH.

I miss boobookitty being up at the top! But I love the new look. The colors are great!

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
tomatogirl replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It all depends on how much you have to lose. I was banded the day before you and I have lost ~10lbs since surgery, but I also have more lbs to lose than you. Someone who had less lbs to lose may only lose 2 or 3 lbs in the same amount of time. -
And I have a 3-year-old, too, but I sent him to grandma and grandpa's in florida while I heal!

I haven't fallen off the wagon yet, but I did have a literal crumb of chocolate the other night. My husband was eating a candy bar and I couldn't stand it. I figured it was better for me to just have a teensy taste and stop there than think about a Take 5 bar for days on end. I had my teensy taste and I was satisfied.

New here: Tricare & Psych Eval question
tomatogirl replied to Allformyson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have TriCare Prime (North) and I had my psych eval about a month ago. I didn't take a test- I just spoke with the psychiatrist and he wrote up a letter saying I was good. That was all there was to it. The hardest part is finding a psychiatrist to do it. -
Have you started harassing your insurance? Your story sounds similar to mine. We submitted in mid-Sept, and finally heard back that I needed more tests done on Oct 3rd, got those done, and resubmitted Oct 14th. She didn't give me an answer until the 17th, though. I was banded the 29th. There is hope for you! Here is my timeline: August 15th- referral appt with Dr. Currie 20th- required attendance with craptastic "support" group. It was awful. 27th- met with nutritionist September 3rd- appointment with Dr Currie 8th- picked up paperwork and submitted to insurance (insert calls every day beginning September 15th asking for an answer) October 3rd- finally speak with head nurse, informs me that I need more labs, a chest x-ray, an EKG, and a psych clearance 6th- labs, chest x-ray, and EKG (also showed pretty much everyone at clinic my boobs thanks to stupid techs) 8th- useless psych consult. He could have cared less what I said, he just wanted the insurance money 10th- picked up and delivered paperwork to Dr. Currie 14th- resubmitted to insurance; also pre-op bloodwork 16th- lost my patience around 3pm, called and left a voice mail with head nurse saying that I did all my parts in a timely manner and by god, they could, too (immediately regretted angry voice mail) 17th- 9am APPROVED (no longer regretted angry voice mail) 20th- pre-op physical 21st- post-op nutritionist 29th- SURGERY

Yay Maggie! I weighed myself again this morning on the Wii Fit and I've lost another 2.1 lbs. I should get my husband to weigh himself, too, to see if he has lost any weight. He's been following the diet along with me (he's going for training in a couple of weeks and he needed to lose a few).
-
Yay for you! Ouch on your incisions, though. And you don't look old.

Level with me re: surgical bandage removal
tomatogirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK, I have those weird clear plastic bandages over my cuts (tagaderm, second skin, whatever they're called). I'm supposed to remove them today, but I'm waiting until tmw because I don't want to have to trek to the emergency room if there is a problem today when I can go to the doctor's office tmw. Anyway, do they hurt to remove? Or is this more like how a regular band-aid feels? One of them is itching like mad and it's driving me crazy.
