    ?ctober ?dyssey 2008

We had discussed "smashing pumpkins" because that emcompasses fall and halloween (and all things October), but I don't think we've set it in stone. :w00t:

    Wii Fit

I got a Wii Fit today (in fact, I just got home with it). I can't wait to try it out. The guy at the store was trying to talk me into buying the Wii Fit ski game also, but I passed. Has anyone tried it?

    Question about kids + surgery

Hey Betelnut, you're just down the highway from me! I don't think your plan is unreasonable, considering she'll be in daycare most of the day. So long as she understands that mommy has an owie and she'll have to be a big girl for a little while, I think it could work out well. There's plenty of people I've seen here who their spouse only took off a couple of days or whatnot and then they were back to being SAHMs.

Disney World and the meal plan....

They do offer a whopping ONE healthy childs plate- grilled chicken, cold, cubed with cheese cubes and 2 sides- I chose grapes and carrots for my son. Other than that, though, it's all cheeseburgers and chicken fingers. Yuck.

I need someone to help me through this

Spiffytif, I am SO glad to hear from someone else who has been banded by Dr. Currie. How is the aftercare?

    How long.....

OK, my husband is 28, so that is an unfair comparison, but I have a friend who is married to a 43 year old (she's 26) and she has complained to me frequently about him not lasting for more than 4 or 5 minutes.

Is Bariatric Marketing Out of Control?

You know, you are 100% right. When I started researching this, I ran across ad after ad that showed some lovely model frolicking somewhere with nary a scar or stretchmark over her entire 110 lb body. They all made me roll my eyes. It took a lot to dig through the crap ads to get to the information I needed. I also got a lot of media about lap banding and one thing I really appreciated was Realize obviously had people who either had lost a lot of weight (one girl playing tenis in the brochure obviously has saggy skin) or larger people (of course, as I say this, there is a man in a swimsuit in the brochure that they forgot to photoshop his bellybutton back on, LOL). That was nice to see. I knew the model was fake and I was never going to look like her.

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Me! Me! Me! So long as the insurance gods take mercy upon me, I should be having surgery at the end of Oct
  10. 10-15%, just like it is in the States and Canada. And I'm sure they accept Visa- they're used to drunk spring breakers with mommy and daddy's gold card.

    Tricare Prime in Texas

You can change the doc on your referral from TriCare (all you have to do is call), but this doctor you want may not accept TriCare.

    Grieving for the old me?

All of the people you mentioned, save for the baby, are perfectly capable of taking care of any crisises that may come up. I suggest not taking your phone next time you go for a walk. They'll be fine for a few minutes. If the baby is there, take him/her in a stroller.
  13. They only require you meet the weight and comorbidities. Any other requirements come from you surgeon. You are going to get 50 different answers. Some people had to do 6m diets (not me), some people had to go to support groups (me), some people have psych evals (not me).

    Tricare Prime in Texas

You need to go to your PCM and get a referral. Tricare will refer you to a doctor that performs the surgery.

Disney World and the meal plan....

That's the best plan. We rented a timeshare last time we were there and we fixed lunches every day and saved a lot of money.

Disney World and the meal plan....

I've been to Disney World about a million times. The meal plan is not worth it unless you have a family of 12 who like to eat in restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and you have a lot of money to waste. They make it sound like a great value, but in the end, it's really not. Generally, my family always ate something small for 2 meals and went to a restaurant for the 3rd (usually either lunch or dinner)- it saves money and it's just easier.
  17. This seems to be a totally unpopular sub-forum.
  18. One of the requirements for my surgery is that I attend my surgical group's support group. It meets once a month at the doctor's office. I can't attend every time because (a) every other month my husband works nights and ( we only have one car, so I only go on months my husband is working days so I can have him watch our son. Anyway, tonight was my first meeting and I did not come away overjoyed. Most of the people there were bypassers or people who were planning on having bypass, save for me and one other lady (who came up to me after the class and expressed some of my feelings- I told her about LBT). The guest speaker (inspiration?) was a bypasser. Blah blah blah bypass. I got to hear all about the joys of dumping syndrome, expanded pouches, Vitamin regimes, how most people didn't choose the band because they didn't want a foreign object in their body (am I mistaken or are staples a foreign object?), and just general bypass |337ness. Ugh. It just sucked and I have to keep going until my surgery- I figure after I have my band, it's not like they can come rip it out of me for not attending these stupid meetings. Will I be missing something if I don't go? I'm going to talk to my surgeon at my appt on the 3rd about getting a bander in there to talk.

    Tricare and fills

Do you have TriCare prime or standard? They are really 2 different animals. here is some more discussion on the subject: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f13/tricare-prime-ins-coverage-67402/ My understanding is that with Prime, they will give you 6 referrals for your doctor for which you can use for fills and whatnot and after you run out, you can ask your PCM for more referrals.

What kind of razor do you use?

I second coochy cream. I love that stuff.

What kind of razor do you use?

The creams work, but they STINK. Yuck. Even if they claim to smell like a fresh meadow full of daisies in full bloom with a chocolate cake in te middle, it doesn't. Don't go hunting, just open the window and embrace the smelliness. I've found that I really like that new Venus razor that has the shaving gel in it- the Breeze. It's simple and I don't get nicks because it automatically adds a layer of skin protection before I shave an area.

    The powder room

Didn't say I did. I just said they get old. No reason to get snippy.

    The powder room

I like the open discussion, but the random articles get old.
