it’s amazing the stuff that we used to eat is a lot more calorie dense then after changing dietary habits; especially portion size for me so far!
-
congrats! which surgery? when do hope to have surgery?

you are probably fine with 300 calories over.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
KimA-GA replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
here is one.. I adjusted the drivers seat in a car! I pulled a work vehicle seat closer to the steering wheel (yay!!) but even more amazing I was sitting in the seat and could actually reach down and adjust without getting out of the car or straining !! as little as four months ago there is no way i could have done that. My body’s bulk prevented that sort of movement. -
be proud that you know you need to act and are reaching out! life is hard and we all need to start again sometimes. how long ago was your surgery? what eating style made you successful in loosing weight last time ? what do you think your biggest issue is that is causing weight gain ?
-
Exactly! balance is the key to long term success!! after the healing diet post op, i will have nothing will be off limits to me as my choice; but like you said some food are cautious with portions in small amounts and some are just occasional indulgence not everyday fare. I think that’s how i will be able to maintain a healthier life long term.

post op, was there any issues with tolerating spices? not heat/capsaicin (that’s obvious to me as a no eat for a while, but not my favorite thing to eat anyway) but flavorful spices like cumin, paprika, bay leaves, dried herbs, fresh herbs, ginger, cinnamon etc etc etc that add bursts of flavor, especially savory, to things? did you have any issues with spices in particular? were you told to avoid black pepper? thank you!

November 2022 surgery support!

Nov 3rd for my sleeve !! -
net would be sooooo much easier… i do have a list of “free foods” i don’t need to count (broccoli, avocado, onions etc) and that helps … but outside that list it is a desert for fiber lol oh and i don’t count sugar alcohols - but i just am not doing a lot of sweet for anything
-
that sounds so wonderful.. totally there with you with the idea of puréed meat!! i am looking forward to surgery and getting to puréed just for being to eat the plant protein Good lol refried beans, stewed/puréed lentils and split pea soup will be such a treat

doing low carb of 50 total carbs now for pre op diet and it’s hard!! (If i could minus fiber it wouldn’t be so bad) and it has caused some intermittent issues due to reduced fiber intake (consuming some supplements now that i don’t count towards my 50 total, but would much rather use dietary fiber in foods) i went through the “keto flu” back in August (foggy head, achy feeling , low energy) in about three days. I also was ravenously hungry early on. my brother suggested that I increase my fat intake and that did the trick. I made cream cheese and peanut butter “fat bombs” with sugar free chocolate chips and monkfruit… scooped them with a 3/4 ounce scoop and ate two of them a day as snacks and it made the hunger disappear! i do not think i could do this low long term, personally, but will be integrating the low carb approach into my post op dietary lifestyle. Being very selective with any sugars, flours and starches is fine.. but it’s hard for me without being able to have much beans/legumes/peas/etc. I would kill for a big bowl of refried beans for dinner, but the total carbs are just too high pre op unless I am super cautious all day.

Omg, it's happening...surgery scheduled for 11/30!
KimA-GA replied to Mcflytx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
congrats!! the time is going to fly by! what kind d of preop diet did you get? -
it’s normal to be nervous!! mine was seeing if I was mentally stable enough to safely complete the pre and post requirements. If i had any substance abuse issues or uncontrolled eating disorder (especially emotional eating and binge eating) issues that would be an encumbrance to a successful surgery. And did I fully understand the life changing decision and possible ramifications of surgery on my life. really it wasn’t that bad - mine was concerned about alcohol because of my family history of alcohol abuse which I am very very aware of but otherwise thought I had things in control enough for surgery (i have depression anxiety and other lovey things currently controlled) make sure to tell us how it goes!

Scared to go through with surgery
KimA-GA replied to Softtacocrumbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very validating! You may consider telling the state medical board about your experience.. it sounds like this doctor causes harm and could cause death due to his fat phobic approach to medicine. it certainly could have done you great harm to be untreated when some simple, medically standard tests could have gotten you treatment sooner. especially refusing to consider anything other than weight when you had symptoms that were screaming something is wrong (body temp etc) if you share your experience with the authorities it is possible he won’t be able to harm others (or other complaints will be taken more seriously in the future about him) -
excellent! what pre op diet? when do you start it? new year, new you!! that is exciting
-
i am worried about going too overboard… i want to so badly! i hate for things to go to waste so trying to limit stuff….enough to have variety and feel prepared but not so much that two years from now i am still looking at it lol
-
my anxiety makes me do things… if i wasn’t so nervous i would be doing at the last second !!!
-
hope that I will be able to ditch the sleep torture device is helpful thank you
-
i am not going to make more than i already have in my freezer for homemade food yet. figure that may be something I can do while recuperating nothing like slowly working on a lovely flavor base for a soup all day (with plenty of time if naps are needed!) I currently have a supply of homemade chicken stock and cubes of sautéed and puréed onions in chicken stock (smooth consistency that should perk up some stock and easily go through a strainer) that i know i can enjoy during liquid phase when needed, but made them a month ago to use as needed.

Help getting back on track
KimA-GA replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
maybe try journaling when cravings hit.. it can help you learn what is head hunger and what is real hunger. if you can tackle what is causing the head hunger, you will be on better footing -
I know it's normal, but it's still SUPER annoying!!
KimA-GA replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am leaving my hair long until after surgery because of the shedding lol right now it is most of the way down my back. I wear it in a bun a lot but I am going to enjoy it while I can!! Plan is to chop it off 3-4 months after surgery to my shoulders. I already shed hair a LOT (my husband doesn’t know how I am not bald) so really wonder how bad it’s going to be for me -
my nutritionalist recommended buying baby spoons for post op eating during the phased diet for portion control and controlling the speed of eating. did anyone do this? thoughts?
-
i have been trying to restrain myself greatly (hence the $100 budget that turned into a little extra lol) … I have already bought some things just wanting to over buy a lot right now ! totally understand not wanting to burden after surgery… hate the thought of inconveniencing my husband or family!! want to have a good selection for myself and be as self sufficient as I can be this is such a life change and knowing there is a before and after it has me freaked a bit… oh - @NP_WIP I think ordering disposable 2 oz little containers is a good idea… i have already ordered 2 oz a month ago and already had 4 oz to add to my preparations
-
greetings, those of you post op: what surprised you after surgery? what happened that you didn’t expect or think of? (gas issues, rate of weight loss, tiredness issues, food intolerances, other people reaction, or whatever else you were not prepared for)
