Mourning the way things were is a great analogy. It is very accurate because you are leaving behind life long patterns that were unhealthy and teaching yourself a whole new way of being. It has helped me to remind myself that even though change is really hard, I am making these changes to say yes to so many things and to actually be able to live life instead of existing. Like mourning any loss, it gets better with time and adapting to the new normal. Find little things to look forward to. Be adventurous in trying new things in your new dietary reality. You may find a new favorite!

November 2022 Surgery Buddies
KimA-GA replied to Crystal Leifheit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Per op liquid diet starts tomorrow… surgery Thursday… I am so nervous about the unknowns -
greetings all! getting close to nov 3 surgery and nerves are flaring… tell me about your hospital stay post op so I can be prepared!!!

caffeine is a stimulant and could easily cause tachycardia if you are now sensitive to it… a. does salt cause your heart to race?? that is more unusual and i would suggest you talk to a dr about it. i guess salt could cause some odd signal through your vagus nerve causing tachycardia but that is kinda a stretch… salt would more likely make you retain water or possibly have kidney effects …

hospital stay post sleeve surgery
KimA-GA replied to KimA-GA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
that is exactly how I hope it goes for me … going to dl shows to my ipad in case the wifi isn’t great and hope for an uneventful night! I have a big unknown which scares me.. not my sister and mother being extremely ill after general anesthesia (nausea and vomiting) for two or three DAYS post op…. i have never been under except for the endoscopy and that is lighter sedation so don’t know how i will react.. i hope I take after my Dad for that lol he is a champ and shakes it off easy -
my surgery is nov 3 and i will start my pre op liquid diet monday (dr told me tuesday but i am a worrier so doing extra to be sure my liver is ready!) BUT i have lost a bunch of weight already dealing with my food issues including binge and emotional eating… i still am learning but haven’t binged for months and feel in control with my food for the first time, well, ever… some tips: journaling helps. having a safe non-food outlet for your emotions. it releases pressure and can get you through tough times. forgiveness. work on forgiving your past choices and remind yourself all the time that you are worth a new, better chapter. it takes a month to start forming a new habit. brains can fight you the whole time. this is a cold turkey hard way, but remind yourself you are making a new set of habits to make you a healthier, happier person who is more in control of life. so glad you reached out for support !! you can PM me anytime at all

just wanted to share my pre op appointment experience! i got to the appointment. they weighed me and had to sign a lot of paperwork. they went over again my pre op diet and post op diet. they went over the medication i was going to take prior to surgery and what pain med i would be discharged with. I found out that he is having me stay one night in the hospital ( outpatient was a possibility) The surgeon came in and I asked a couple questions which he answered. then i was sent to another part of the hospital to do pre op registration, blood work and an ekg. was a busy afternoon! my appointment was at 220 and i walked out of the hospital around 5 pm.

never thought about that, either!!! wow self isolating sounds a bit much, especially from your driver! I don’t even need a covid test unless i have symptoms or known exposure of verified positive
-
i was surprised that they didn’t have surgical soap protocol. i am doing it anyway (already got my hibclens) just to be safer! also making sure i have fresh sheets etc the night before

they just called me! yay! wbc is fine because of my history of it.. but i am getting some potassium supplements because it is low one less worry to stress about!

can she run ekg/bloodwork like it was routine and have insurance pay? i had a pre op ekg yesterday and they said i could use one that’s done if it was within six months … they are quick and easy
-
hematologist was 6-7 years ago but my main dr knows all about it… normal wbc is 7-10… i usually run 13-17… yesterday was 20, so double normal limit… so-far i haven’t gotten a call about it, so maybe not a problem (wishful thinking)… just don’t want anything to derail things at this point !! (side note: my a1c dropped from 6.2 to 6.1! was hoping for more but i will take any reduction)

not so far (i am pre op) but it seems to be common after surgery for a while

Greetings, Going to celebrate out loud today! I have lost 100 lbs from my July 2021 highest recorded weight and all in PRE op!!! 85.8 Lbs in 2022! Damn, this has been hard. A lot of emotional and behavioral change went into this effort. A lot of re-education about nutrition and choices. A lot of forgiving myself for getting to this weight. A lot of healing. A lot of journaling. A lot of reminding myself that I am worth taking care of. It also has been easier than I thought. Once I gained the confidence that I could, I did. Yes, I have had doctor support and taking Ryselbus helped, but mostly this is me making true and long lasting change. I am comforted by the fact that if for some reason I could not have the sleeve surgery on November 3rd, 2022, I would still loose weight and feel better and my LIFE would be better. Everyone has this in them. Its a tough road, but we can all achieve better in our lives.

Has your relationship changed?
KimA-GA replied to sweetsmith78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
i am pre op and if you had asked me two months ago, i would have told you that there was only a little chance my relationship would survive post op… but my husband finally is making some changes to himself to “come along” on my journey (mostly in how we interact to honor the changes I have made) .. and now i have hope I won’t be single sometime next year! i guess relationships and weight loss have one big thing in common; it takes a lot of hard work that can often emotionally hurt to get through to the good -

Low BMI obesity gastric sleeve option
KimA-GA replied to William Weston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
first of all, surgery isn’t easy. it’s permanently changes your life; what you can eat, how you can eat.. and it’s not always in ways that you would choose. you have to modify your eating habits if you have surgery for the rest of your life if you want to have any success. it sounds like you may need that more than surgery. 31 is not a high bmi, so fine tuning what you do eat and finding a healthier moderation may be just the ticket. work with a nutritionalist. even if you wanted surgery, you need to do it anyway. you might find that after modifying your diet you won’t need surgery and can be healthier! -
No one talks about. To much weightloss
KimA-GA replied to sweetsmith78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Have you talked to your nutritionist and had your gp run tests to make sure something medical isn’t going on?
