November 2022 Surgery Buddies

glad you are doing great!!!!!!!!! mine went great too. i hurt but tolerable. walking is helping big time. are you burping with every sip??? -
4:25 am, Nov 4 2022 - update still kinda hazy but sleeping good between overnight between med staff visits. lots of meds, antibiotics, antiemetics, Tylenol, gabapentin, neurotin, .. they tried to give me insulin and i refused. i am non insulin and blood sugar only spiked to 177 post surgery (blood sugar spikes with body trauma) from106 pre op… pain when i stand and sit back down.. but tolerable… minimal pain when walking carefully… i walked as soon as I could and that made gas pain dissipate quick so far (horrible chest pressure for a while but is 80% gone.. but i am starting to feel it in upper chew and shoulders again since o was laying flatter to sleep… sitting up at more of an angle for the rest of the night) there is pain/discomfort with most sips (lots of pain when i accidentally gulped once.. lesson learned) but it passes in a few seconds. general minor pain and discomfort in abdomen, kinda like a minor sprain… i didn’t do extra pain meds in the afternoon but took it in the evening and a few mins ago… the one ounce cups are amazing for control. use them! minor nausea sometimes passes fast but they are loading me up with anti nausea meds due to a family history of severe nausea after surgery (my first procedure under a general besides endoscopy) was not prepared for the fact that i would burp with nearly every sip (even purposely keeping air out of mouth and sipping approx 5 ml at a time! and there is 30 ml in a one ounce cup - so not much) no pain with burp but is reducing gas pain i think. one more pain saving tip: IV potassium sucks but get an ice pack to put on arm IV area to reduce the burning and pain the infusion causes. Huge difference in comfort. …. hope this helps take the mystery out of some of the after…

On your current weight loss journey, what was the easiest change for you or was much easier than you thought ? so far for me it has been not consuming a lot of sugary stuff. I used to crave it all the time and thought I always would, but since I reduced it down and mostly cut it out I do not have constant cravings anymore. Occasionally I get a little twinge but something small and sweet but not sugary will often satisfy. what about you?

no energy for big update. ok. having some pain. walking sucks but makes things better. didn’t expect to burp with every sip, even if i know i wasn’t swallowing a lot of air

Looking forward to the Double Take
KimA-GA posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, going to let my vanity hang out for a moment lol One of the things I look forward to after surgery after being a very fat person most of my life is having people do a double take or not recognize me lol Due to the nature of my job, there are many people I see once a year or a every few years and talk on the phone on and off. I semi secretly can’t wait until I have lost enough for them to have to look twice to know it’s me … tucking my vanity back in for now… -
feeling better??

did you notice people treating you different after loosing weight ? good, bad, crazy?? family? coworkers? acquaintances? i have lost 100 lbs but just kinda proportionally shrunk a little, not huge transformation yet. (skin is starting to be a little jiggly instead of tight on my fat and a slight reduction to my many chins) so haven’t experienced a big difference, yet! what have you experienced?

one more day!!!!! scared out of my wits but as ready as i am going to be! -
At the end of last year, my life was over eating and especially lots of sugar. I binged on little debbie cakes, guzzled icees, had many high calorie starbucks drinks and a lot of fast food. I ate and drank so unhealthy that it really was a slow suicide. It was killing me and frankly I did not care, but rather welcomed it. After several things snowballing, the first of 2022 I started to take control. I made a choice to live. I struggled to work out the pain of the past and even current circumstances which lead me to cover the pain in food, especially sugar and non nutrient dense carbs. The pain that brought me well over 400 lbs and climbing. I journaled and cried and started to stand up for myself. I also did take Ryselbus which helped give me a leg up to do the work. My husband took it but the effects wore off some because he didn’t change. I knew i needed to change if I wanted to live. Over a few months, I did the very hard mental work. I broke addictions to fast food and the sugar. Going through the process sucked. Slowly, I repeated over and over again I was worth forgiving to getting into this unhealthy state. I could heal and forge a new way. I didn’t need sugar or binging on pizza to make me feel better, I could finally start to find empathy and forgiveness for myself. Now I am two days from life changing bariatric surgery in a good place. I am ready for the huge changes this surgery brings. No longer do I binge on sugar, bread, processed food. I don’t even want to binge 90% of the time and I have self soothed myself with forgiveness and understanding the other 10%. I have changed my eating patterns, my portions, my outlook. Sugar isn’t forbidden forever, but it will now be a treat, a sometimes indulgence. It feels amazing to be able to make that choice instead of being ruled by cravings. I feel lighter from not having to carry as much of the huge burden of self loathing and self hate I used to carry. I am worth forgiving myself. I guess really why I am writing this is I know the struggle is so real. each one of you has your own issues and challenges. Each one of you is worthy of self forgiveness and embracing good things in your life. shed the tears, embrace your flaws and find a way to accept yourself and move forward in a way you want. Even if you struggle, It is worth it.

FYI - the fruity pebble protein powder is absolutely fantastic to me makes me feel like i had naughty cereal for breakfast instead of being on my liquid diet this week!! one more day of liquids to go before Thursday surgery!! Wednesday night I have a special bottle of pre surgery Ensure to drink along with two tylenol to prepare. Then Thursday morning I have to take an anti nausea med on the way to the hospital….. so nervous! -
I just read on another forum about how someone had a very strong reaction to cold medication post op. was a brand she used before and it had a very different effect. Anyone else have this experience?

big hugs hope you feel better super soon!! do you eat yogurt?? gut bacteria can get messed up with sickness and it will help replenish the bacteria needed for digestion.

Who has had an MRI since sleeve surgery?
KimA-GA replied to MissMerryberry's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon told me the 25th of Oct that he uses titanium staples that are fine for MRI… I had to schedule a spinal MRI for after surgery (separate issue from surgery) and they won’t see me until 1 month post op to do an MRI so it’s scheduled for the beginning of December… so surgery may delay an MRI post op but won’t eliminate it. -
Becoming Free by Overcoming

thanks!! more importantly to me I have faith that if I can pull myself from suicidal despair and super unhealthy life, others can too. I want to be there for those who feel they have nothing and no hope and feel as alone as I did. life sucks sometimes but there is room for better on so many levels. -
any ladies have a c-section and the VSG surgery? (obviously not at the same time lol lol) My surgical experience is 2 c-sections in a year 18/19 years ago. (I currently have 2 18 year olds until Nov 10th) Does the physical recovery from VSG compare with c-section at all or too different to compare ? I was asking about recovery i pre op and they said what many on the forum have said; it’s not a very painful recovery for most. I said that I had two c-sections and they said it’s nothing compared to a c-section. As always, tho, I want to hear first hand experiences !!

i will be honest, i take a diuretic sometimes to help things along… but it works and usually have a new number not just temporary -
i had preop blood work yesterday and saw the results in my electronic chart yesterday evening (before dr lol). i normally have an elevated wbc (been checked out twice by hematologist - it’s just how i am) but it was elevated a bit from my normal range… i had the flu in early october and wonder if that could be messing with me still… i am waiting to hear from dr to see if that matters to them… it’s so high from normal i expect a call, but it’s just slightly higher for me naturally did you have a pre op issue with wbc? how was it handled ?
