    1 Week PO update

Quick update … the pain and hardness in incision area increased and started to get red too.. had fever climb up to 101 degrees with Tylenol. Surgeon is calling me in antibiotics and wants to see me Monday morning. If it gets worse/doesn’t improve I am to go to the hospital emergency room. Might have to cancel my Saturday plans… which sucks lol

    1 Week PO update

i have a desk job and only plan on making a few phone calls and answer emails and go home - maybe 3-4 hours a day all week even if i feel great by then. i will have to help people that come in for me, but that just involves standing for 5 mins and right now i can handle that! (as long as no one cussed me out to get my blood pressure up- which happens sometimes because i work in a local government tax office lol) honestly expect Monday to be a lot of chattering and a little work lol

Exploring food can be a good thing. Sounds like you have the eating portion in balance and are seeking new tastes with your new life. Cooking is an art and a science that brings joy with the act itself for some people

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Good luck to the Nov sleevers this week! to all done last week: post an update please! to those prepping: you got this day 4 post op: really focusing on getting liquids today. Got 34 oz yesterday and that was a struggle. I have 6 incisions and only 1 hurts, the big one.. it is heavily bruised and hurts when I get up and down or move wrong, but bearable. So far I am down 3.8 lbs, which is great because I was sure I would be up after surgery with all of the fluids they put in me! I’m glad I took this week off.. I have low stamina and have been going to bed around 830 pm, sleeping four about four hours, up for about an hour or two then getting a little more rest… still have a little gas, stil sometimes have pain swallowing, still occasionally hiccup, still have occasional waves of nausea (under 30 seconds but waves over me)… going from clear liquids to full today.. not sure what I am going to try first yet! Doing beef broth for breakfast so I have hydration before attempting something new. As soon as the sun is up I am going to do more pecan walks in my backyard. Picked up a bunch with my stick so far (no bending.. ouch ouch that couldn’t happen right now)
  11. to those of you post op who had sleep apnea and cpap/bipap machines….. Did your sleep apnea improve? How long/how much weight before it did? Did you stop using your machine/when? i am down about 50 lbs already since my in lab sleep titration test (70+ since my at home sleep study) and I was severe and needing bipap. (tmi but i was having issues with hypoxic morning migraines and sleep paralysis) I hate my machine but like not getting hypoxic at night so I still wear it. Just went to sleep dr and they were not really helpful with the question. said I would need to loose “significant” weight before I would need retesting or come off the machine, kinda discounting my loss so far… said if i had a “miraculous” weight loss over the next few months to call, otherwise they would see me in a year. Just wanted to hear experiences from everyone, but especially high bmi peeps thanks!!

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

i didn’t think post op liquids would be hard for me, but I am behind. walking and sipping is my life. i bought too many clear beverages when all i really care for is water, broth, juice (4 oz day) … the artificial sweetener is not that great to me in the clear beverages after an ounce or two
  14. 3 days post op.. not meeting fluids but trying… still having gas pains, but walking helped greatly… tired, sore.. 3 lbs down from surgery weight…

Thanks.. drinking is getting easier but my incision site still hurts (a bit worse tbh.. but there is more diffuse surface bruising which I think is why… gotta love the healing process)

  15. I slept till after four am! Better than I thought. Today is the day! I gotta be at the hospital at 8:30 a.m. (45 min drive which isn’t bad for my rural area). I got nerves! My life is already better by loosing 90 lbs this calendar year, over 100 in less than 18 months. Good things gotta be in store for me. It’s my time to live life and be happy and not embarrassed about my size all the time. good luck to all going through pre op, post op or surgery today, or even just preparing… we are all in this together.

    Surgery today! Nov 3

I was getting them , but would move my shoulders (shrugging or small circles over and over) and walk each time i got them.. they got better fast with that… i get pains behind my sternum randomly and occasionally waves of nausea … i have been walking a lot at a slow pace… picking up pecans with a picker upper stick in my yard (weighs 2 lbs and i use it like a walking stick so no strain) …. had hiccups too - those hurt…. but only two so far today you having issues with fluid? i am behind but working it hard to get closer to a goal today…

Post op gas sucks. Sipping has helped because it can make me burp. Have felt it move to my shoulder and neck. The moment that I feel that I start gently moving that area and it usually disappears quickly if I start on it right away. If I wait to move the area it turns into more pain and I don’t want that at all. Lots of gas bubbles that feel like they are under my sternum and those are tougher to deal with until they move somewhere else. Walking in general helps those some. It hurts to sip some still. Not as bad as day 1, but I have also learned how freaking tiny the sips have to be. Using the one ounce cups from hospital (30 ml) I can only sip about 5 ml at a time comfortably. If I did over ten ml it huuurts ! I am sure that will be better with time but keeping it very small and frequent. getting up and down sucks, but walking hasn’t been bad for me. Just slow and deliberate. I walked around my yard with my pecan gatherer (weighs about two pounds) and used it like a walking stick that picked up pecans yesterday. No bending, nope nope - not going to happen. Dumped it every ten or so nuts (I just turn it and dump into a box.. does not strain any bit of me).. sat on my outside swing frequently too. Enjoying the sunshine and resting between nut walks. The swing movement was helping with the gas too. my big incision hurts, the others I can’t really even feel. The big one I have to hold my hand against going up or down and will ache at rest. All of my incisions have big bruises around them, the big one is the worst. Dr apparently told my husband and mom that he could tell inside that I had already lost weight because the fat in my internal areas were already looking good for someone my size. husband made me an enriched beef broth for me last night (he pressure cooked meat and veg in beef stock and strained it through my fine mesh strainer). Tasted good, and warm things soothe and don’t hurt as bad going down (but sips need to stay the same..) And in the TMI category - be aware that this surgery can also trigger your period to come early. Another joy of womanhood. At least I don’t usually get cramps, just more to do when I go to the bathroom to pee.. (last month it came early when I got terribly sick with the flu too) other than that.. I am down 2 lbs already from surgery weight. I was expecting to be heavier because of all of the fluids and other liquids they put into me in the hospital. 149.5 lbs to go to get to ONEderland lol time to go do some more nut walks !

    6 month post op update

You are doing great! You probably are gaining muscle with all the workouts and it’s balancing the fat loss weight wise… keep up the amazing work
  20. less than 3 weeks to my surgery date, Nov 3, 2022! I feel like I am over preparing!! save me from myself lol I have ordered my last batch of protein shakes (tho most of them will be incorporated into pre op diet but will have some after) and a variety of products for my liquid phase and beyond for home and to keep at my desk at work (protein shots, bariatric protein soup mix, special drink mixes etc… about $100 worth total of a variety of products to try) … also already have a list of stuff to get from the grocery store before surgery for the first two weeks or so… want to be stocked up and not have to think much also starting some nervous cleaning (which is unlike me lol) to try to make this nicer for when i get home… please tell me I am not alone with over preparing in the final stretch before surgery!!!!

    Diabetes

did he test your a1c? with weight loss you often have to readjust down many meds including psych meds. If your meds are inducing diabetes you may want to taper or change meds if possible. type 2 diabetes (nearly all adults who get it are that) usually gain weight due to insulin resistance due to stress on pancreas and other biochemical issues due to excess weight. there is a small contingent of adults who develop a latent autoimmune diabetes which is really a different disorder with same result of pancreas not working (my dad has it) and there isn’t as much you can do) it will settle out and you will learn no matter what! we got your back
