  1. From my reading, it could exclude you. If your liver is not shrunk properly the surgery will not happen. Also, if you can’t follow the diet, you may need to do more work on your psychological issues regarding food more before you are a good candidate for surgery, otherwise you may have a very hard time after surgery when you must refrain.

    Surgery postponed

Did you follow the pre op liquid diet properly? Some surgeons only want three or four days, but most want two weeks to ensure the liquid diet. it is designed to shrink the liver for surgery and very important it is followed. If you cheat on it, it is a sign you are not a good candidate for surgery.
  3. Trying to get my heart, emotions and diet ready for VSG - possibly in October 2023.

    Telling others

I have never lost a lot of weight before… so I hope it will be obvious;). I won’t care after it’s done telling people - just afraid of telling people before for some reason. Maybe it’s because I came close once before and the opportunity was taken from me (soap opera story) and I am scared this time something will happen again. I have insurance coverage for bariatrics this time so it should happen! I know I will need to say something for the time off after surgery so people will know by the time I have the date. I just don’t know when right now. I will have to go through an endoscopy in august, maybe then.

    October 2022 surgery support

So far I have slowly made changes to 1.)only eating fast food maybe once a week. I would have it 5+ meals a week last year. 2.) reducing most processed foods (nothing is off limits, but if it’s not healthy, be mindful of the portion) 3.) not eating when not hungry 4.) I used to drink a glass of sweet tea a day, dropped that to occasional - drinking water or unsweet tea almost exclusively except for my weekly Margarita:) I am on a diabetic medicine which has helped with the process because it has changed the way my stomach processes food and helped me to make the lifestyle changes now. Thanks to that I have lost 50 already and hoping to loose more by the time for surgery. my next step is to try to do a test run on the pre op diet so I can not have my eating issues complicate matters when time comes (which hopefully will let me loose more) it’s a journey I want to be success at so bad!!
  8. Greetings! I just had my first surgical consult and am working my way toward an October 2022 surgery. I want this to truly be a success, so before a knife touches me I want to get in a better place in my own head and face some of the things which got me to this state of super morbid obesity. Over the past few months I have worked hard to work on my issues with food. I have issues with emotional and binge eating, eating too much fast food, too much processed food and too much sugar. I have used a lot of techniques. Always shifting to try to beat take care of me. Some things I have done include mental health journaling, making no foods “bad” or off limits, practicing mindfulness and self forgiveness, using pre-packaged/portioned grab and go foods (nuts and cheese snack packs, lunchables, apples and peanut butter etc), slowly reducing my fast food dependence. it has been rewarding so far to tackle those issues. I have lost 50 lbs so far. Sept 2021 I was 452 lbs, in pain and miserable in my own body. I now am 398, in and less discomfort. I am looking forward to being in the right mindset for surgery so that I can ultimately achieve all of my goals and change my life. What is your experiences with dealing with food issues both before and after surgery??

    Surgery today

I know it takes about 3 months for the stomach to fully heal after surgery, but am pre op so don’t know from first hand experience… follow instructions and don’t be shy at calling your surgeons nurse to find out if it’s normal

  12. Thank you! I have done lots of therapy over the years but not doing it formally at present. Honesty I am using the tools I learned from it but didn’t help me at the time. I wasn’t ready before. I was trying to survive some very difficult circumstances for me. I am finally out of the survival mode and trying to implement changes to actually live… guess life begins after 40!
  13. I am over 40 with over a 60 BMI… I under the struggle and hope to have surgery in October. I am working on my food issues which got me here. It’s tough but worth it!

    Iced Coffee

I must have milk or creamer in my iced coffee… I cold brew it in the fridge from time to time… there are sugar free flavor syrupyou can add… also a great monkfruit no calorie sweetener which tastes sugar to me (Splenda and the other artificial sweetener taste bitter to my taste buds)
