Fill question
Mimilou2004 replied to StewsHunnyBunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a popular subject and if you use the search feature you will find many posts to read about many many ppl's experiences. Best wishes during this exciting time, Mimi -
I never thought I would advocate for band removal but your situation screams for it...it would be a horrible decision to have your vagal nerve severed, it has so many functions, some of which we don't even know. You have suffered long enough and it sounds like the band is not for you. Good Luck,Mimi

Karen, I am so happy he was able to repair and not remove. I am in similar circumstances as you all the way around. It is scary to contemplate life w/o the band there to help. Best wishes, Mimi

Had to Have my Band Drained
Mimilou2004 replied to jen_ngah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to never get a fill on Thursday or Friday... going to the ER for an adjustment pretty much will always be a complete drain so they won't have to come back to see you again.........next time try to call for a small unfill ASAP to the office in regular hours. Sorry you went through it and I wish you luck not gaining wt during the drain period. Mimi -
Elcee is absolutely right...it is a very serious situation...have you done the 2 weeks of nasal bactroban ointment twice a day with Hibiclens skin scrubs at the same time? MRSA and the band do not mix all the way down to the port and skin. I wish you the best of luck....your doc might put you on Clinda mycin during the pre-op post op prep and recovery period. I wish you serious best wishes!!! Mimi

Old habits hard to die (sweets)
Mimilou2004 replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't mean to hurt your feelings but I think you need counselling. I would bet that there is a mind over matter component to your not tolerating ANY fill. I totally understand your sweet craving, I swear, and I cope by exercising more than any time in my life so I can maintain my loss and have my cake (candy, cookies, pie, brownies, ice cream, etc!!!! LOL) too. It is not easy...this week my cravings have been very strong and I have gone up 4 pounds. I am fresh post op bunion surgery and can't do the treadmill to burn the calories so I am fretting those pounds, but I know I will burn them when I am mobile. Lest you think I am exaggerating...I ate a 3 bar box of Dove chocolate ice cream bars in 15 minutes followed by a 12 ounce bag of new M&M peanut butter candy.......as well as regular food that day. So I do understand your dilemma. If you can find a good nice trainer that would be beneficial and maybe attacking from that end before "dieting" would work for you. Good luck and keep posting your journey. Mimi -
Diet Soda Addict
Mimilou2004 replied to SkinnyMiniMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have gotten some really good feedback and will have to make up your mind which way to go. The 1st thing was caffeine....most posters are not told to quit caffeine...my practice encouraged it because it stimulates the appetite and gives some ppl indigestion. I drink 6-8 mugs of coffee a day and have no problems and my practice doesn't have any problems with it. I was a soda junkie to the max and haven't had one in 3 years and I love the money I have saved as well as the time and gas $$ saved from not searching for sales. I did both the taper and cold turkey method....I still occasionally miss the cold sweet bubbles but miss smoking even more, LOL. My practice said we could try carbonation after a year banded so I did and I suffered horrible trapped gas pains which was enough to say good riddance to that habit. I wish you the best and assure you that your quality of life will not suffer w/o soda. Especially since we are not supposed to eat and drink at the same time!!!! Mimi -
Finally APPROVED by Tricare Prime!
Mimilou2004 replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in Insurance & Financing
That is wonderful...I am very happy for you. You have been persistent and now that will pay off!!! Mimi -
I suspect that it is in case you get an overfill you will be starting from a good place so you don't dehydrate so fast. It has never been a question at my doc, but I think it is an excellent point. Mimi

Cheri, I don't think you are stupid, I think you are smart to buy just one or a few. Crestor has a good profile and is the leading cardioprotective statin so I am hoping you do well. I take Zocor and have no side effects but I stayed alert for them because I also didn't want to die. You be your best friend and the heck with the naysayers!!!! Mimi

6 years post-op bander needs advice
Mimilou2004 replied to Teakwood's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think just 0.1 removed would work wonders....I wish you luck...the one thing you didn't mention was cutting off food and fluids at least 2 hours before lying down.....that can work wonders and eliminate the need for an adjustment. Mimi -
DO NOT switch to Standard since you are having a baby and want the band....you will be sorry if you do. Congratulations on the baby. Mimi
-
It sure sounds like you need a fill...there are several reasons the band stops giving good restriction, the main one being the loss of fat between the band and the stomach. You have done wonderful, don't be afraid of getting a small fill. Mimi

2nd fill, and I'm a little nervous
Mimilou2004 replied to THEgeorgiaPEACH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree, you sound a bit over filled.....that was an unusually large fill from what I have read on here and experienced myself. Good Luck, Mimi
