Surgeon agrees today to do port revision surgery
Mimilou2004 replied to Katy517's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I do wish you luck, but I don't understand what the problem is in switching you to a low profile port....any way you can get a second opinion? Mimi -
It all begins with a choice...

Dr. couldnt find port site at last fill appointment
Mimilou2004 replied to carliebear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As all of the other poster's said, what a load of crap!!!!! She is failing you and I would NOT wait 2 months, even if you have to change doctors!!!! Jerk!!!!! Mimi -
Jen, terrific advice!!!! I want to compliment the poster on 2 years of maintenance....that is awesome!!!! And by knowing what you have done day in day out for 2 years you can discover where to cut back on calories and where you can pick up the exercise without having an overwhelming lifestyle makeover. There is a rule of thumb that says 100 calories per pound of wt for maintenance or loss so if you want to weigh 130 you could probably eat 1200-1300 cals. That should give you 1-2 pounds of loss a week, boosted by whatever exercise calorie expenditure you do. A nice way to get started exercising is to treat yourself to a few weeks with a personal trainer. I wish you all the best. Mimi

Nurse Bandsters?
Mimilou2004 replied to rkwilliams1013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like this thread!!!!! I have been a Nurse since 1969 and my weight kept going up up up and my joint pain did too. I also felt like a poor health care role model and decided the band was worth a try. I knew too much about bypass and no way was I going that route. Sleeve, maybe. I know what the poster means who said they didn't want to be one of those nurses who didn't want to get up off their seat to take care of the patients. Good luck to all the students and techs on that journey, too. Mimi -
How are you doing now, WannaB? Mimi

I don't think you should wait to see if the swelling goes down. Another 1/2 cc out will make a lot of difference. Are you keeping sips down? Peeing every couple of hours? I hate that you are going through this, good luck. Mimi

It actually sounds like there is a bend in the tubing and that the push pressure can open it but the pull back pressure collapses it....darned if I can think of what this is called. I hope you don't have to have more surgery, that your fill is just right. Mimi

This forum is so much better than the Aussie one I was on.

port infection then port removal
Mimilou2004 replied to andrea71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am glad you are healing and will soon get a new port. I am pleased that you have no band erosion and wish I could knock that radiologist upside the head. Darn it, too bad you can't prove he did you in, you could take him to legal task!!!! It is wonderful that you are able to practice restraint in eating, without my band I don't think I could manage. Best of luck, Mimi -
I think it is a good idea to call the office, they might have a better idea or even tell you to eat until they come!!!! Good luck, Mimi

Reached my first goal: "Low 200s" - 184 pounds lost as of today

Kathy, I am so very proud of you...you ROCK!!!!! Mimi -
Hi, Jillian. Thank you for the nice comment. I, too, am an RN and think we give give give at work then stoke our own fires of renewal with food. It was a difficult choice, but I switched to a lower paying job, and cut back my hours to relieve some of the emotional issues. The rest was my faithful tool, the lapband. I wish you much success and look forward to reading your posts. If you send a friend request it will allow you to open my Plastic surgery graphic pictures. I need to update them but there are some before and afters.

Thin girl in the mirror... Fat girl in my head!
Mimilou2004 replied to Rescue3Chick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Some ppl do get a small unfill if they keep losing past what they want to weigh. The great thing about the band is its adjustability!!!! Mimi -
Thin girl in the mirror... Fat girl in my head!
Mimilou2004 replied to Rescue3Chick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, for me maintenance is not gaining or losing except within a narrow range of 3 pounds. Adjusting my exercise and calories to accomplish this is hard for me, not necessarily for everyone. Every time I would lose weight, before banding, and get to whatever goal I had in mind, I would fall back into old patterns and re-gain. Mantenance for me is not letting this happen while trying not to let the focus of my life be about my weight. I hope I answered your question. Mimi -
port removal due to infection
Mimilou2004 replied to thepoodleluver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am glad you could tell Mary how to put up the ticker, Kimmy, because I couldn't. Mary, I am so happy you don't have band erosion and I agree with you, the proximity of the infection date to the fill dates is highly suspect. I do so hope you heal quickly and can get re-ported soon. Thank you for your compliment on my girl, have you posted a picture of yours? Mimi -
One More ?-- Is it normal to be so dizzy?
Mimilou2004 replied to brandnewquiet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dehydration, low blood pressure, leftover anesthesia, plus pain meds are all possible causes of what you describe. Also low blood sugar. Drink more (especially calories), rest, and get up slowly when you change position. Best wishes, Mimi -
Alright I almost threw up just now help please...
Mimilou2004 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can the Zyrtec be switched to PM's since it is a 24 hour pill? I do think you probably drank too much water all at once. I agree, wait it out. I have the same problem several times a week. Mimi -
port removal due to infection
Mimilou2004 replied to thepoodleluver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What worries me is that an infected port could also mean band erosion. Everytime I read a post about port infections I worry. I am sorry this infection happened to you and I hope you heal quickly. Mimi -
Thin girl in the mirror... Fat girl in my head!
Mimilou2004 replied to Rescue3Chick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Ruth...I set my target wt arbitrarily. I didn't know what I could accomplish until I got down to 120 and liked it. For my height I am on the high end of OK, I am barely 5 ft tall. I am in maintenance which is a whole new dance program for me. I have spent most of my life yo-yoing up and down. Good luck, Mimi -
I am sure it is fine with those numbers but make sure you take a multivitamin, Another one that is yummy to the max is Whey Gourmet Cookies and Cream. I get mine off the internet and enjoy the heck out of it. For more complete nutrition a Ready to Drink (RTD) from Walmart, etc, is the Atkins line or Myoplex. These RTD's have vitamins and minerals. And if you like Slimfast, they aren't too bad either. There are lots of options available for you and if you use the search function you will see many threads about ppl's recommendations. Best wishes, Mimi

Thin girl in the mirror... Fat girl in my head!
Mimilou2004 replied to Rescue3Chick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
To work on this problem I have been spending a lot more time in front of the mirror and any mirror I pass. I also take as many snapshots as I can and really look at them. This is going to sound a little strange, but I deliberately run my hands over my skin while I am looking in the mirror so that I see and feel the changes at the same time. Peoplel keep telling me I am tiny but my head isn't there yet so I really understand where you are coming from. I think it is part of the whole journey. Best wishes, Mimi
