    Who are you telling?

I have told most of my family and friends by now. The only person I won't tell will be my 91yr grandma. Mind you, she is starting to forget, so she might forget that I told her, but at 91, I say you can do whatever you want!! So far I have only come across one person who has been negative to me, everyone else has watched my weight go up and down with me. Most of my family is overweight, but I will be the first to have WLS. I am pretty sure my family has kept weight watchers and Jenny Craig in business!! I am an open person, so I don't mind sharing. I am just glad my parents are okay with it, my mom is coming with me! I am going to Mexico, so it will be a mini vacation for the two of us!!
  6. Okay...I have a great story for a reply to all the "when is the baby due?" comments... I was working a second job at a plus size clothing store when a mother/daughter come into shop (both were overweight). As I was helping them, the mother asked me "when is the baby due?" I swear this is what I said..."Nope, no baby...just fat...Can I take your clothes to a change room?" I have never seen someones face turn that weird shade of red, and then she ran out of the store!! The daughter was stunned, and then blinked and just looked at me, and she went about buying clothes. I think she spent more, just cause she felt sooo bad. I laughed it off, but at some level it still hurts. I have always been a big girl, for as long as I can remeber. Sometimes things like that bother me, and sometimes i come out with "zingers". There are of course the usually little kids, pointing and mooing..that is something I am not going to miss.
  7. I hope your surgery went well today. I am 60 days away from my surgery, and I am going to OCC as well. You will have to give me any hints!! I have heard all good things about the clinic and doctors and staff!! I am sure you will be well cared for. I look forward to joining you in two months!! Congrats:thumbup:
  8. My day is October 22, I am self-paid, so I picked my date! I work in seasonal industry, so we should be slow enough. So I will be able to take enough time off. I am so excited...I can't wait...a whole winter season to work on a new me!!
  9. I didn't tell too many people until I absolutley made up my mind on it...Now my surgery is October of 22!! Out of all the people I have told, so far only one person has been negative. But my parents and siblings and room mates and good friends have all been very supportive. So I am happy telling people...it's not like they won't know soon anyway!! But what ever choice you make, it is your decision. You have to do what is best for you!! Good Luck

    Mexico for a Canadian

I just booked my surgery for October 22 with Dr. Ortiz and I am totally excited. I live in central Alberta and it is nice to know there are quite of few people out there that I can talk to and in my area!! Thanks for all the info on the taxes and Alberta Health Care...I can't believe I can claim that much back!! Whew...it makes me realize I should have done this sooner. But at least I am getting there now!!!
  11. Hi all, Just wondering something...I think I might have sleep apnea (went on vacation and my friend said I would stop breathing and then jerk awake!!), but I have done a small sleep test (that is required by my doctor before they can send me to a sleep study). The test said that I don't have apnea, but I still jerk awake, and sleep really bad most nights. I am having band surgery in October. Do you think it would be worth it, to go for a sleep study...or wait for the surgery and see if that helps first?? Any opinons would be great!!!
  12. AAAhhh....things I won't miss.... -thighs rubbing together and causing holes in pants -little red marks and creases around tummy where the jeans rub and are too tight -having two spare tires...with a tiny third trying to come in -shopping at plus size stores and paying extra for it -little kids pointing and laughing -snotty salespeople in regular stores being mean to me -not being able to tie my shoes in one shot -buying slip on shoes, so i don't have to tie shoes -not being able to play with my niece and nephew for more that 20 minutes at a time -being passed over by the hot guys for my skinny friends next to me (God love my friends...but it hurts sometimes) I am sure there is more...

    Dr. Farris in Red Deer,

Hi BGP, I know that Dr. Descouteaux in Calgary will take on Dr. Ortiz's patients, as that is who I have decieded who to go to. The really nice lady that answers his phones, says that Dr. Descouteaux has no problem in taking Ortiz patients, as she has only ever heard great things about the clinic and doctors down there. That is all I know for Calgary doctors.
  14. Hi there, I am considering Dr. K for my lap band sugery. But I was wondering if I can get some info from someone. I live in Canada, and I was wondering if he does the surgery at a hospital or a clinic (I have an appointment on friday for a consulation) and also if any one can recommend a hotel/motel near by? I have read alot of your posts and everyone seems really happy with him, and you guys are soooo supportive of each other, which is really nice to see. I think it would nice to be apart of your gang!! And info you can pass along would be great. Thanks for you help!!
  15. Hi there...I am new to this world. I never wanted the gastric bypass, but upon research I have landed here in Lap-Band World. And from what everyone says...it seems like a good place to be!! I have been overweight since grade 4 and would like to lose this weight once and for all. I had my doctor say to me when I questioned her if I should go thru with this surgery..."If you knew how to lose the weight probably the first time...you wouldn't be here" And that makes sense to me. I am in Alberta and tried to get into the Calgary clinic, but I was told today, that the clinic is only for paitents in the Calgary Health region (bummer!!). So my doctor phoned around and found a surgeon in Red Deer and I have an appointment with them for a consultation. But I am also looking at one of the clinics in Toronto and Mexico. But it would be nice to have the surgery close to home...and free...or cheaper than $20,000, but I am not going to limit myself. I have done research on the net (found this site!!) And I am quite excitied to see all the people that this has helped, and hope soon to join you!! Thanks for reading.
