Mine has been starting later. I asked my Gyn about it and he said because I'd lost a lot of weight so quickly, it's thrown everything out of whack, but not to worry.

There is no option to use short term disability where I work. If you have enough sick and/or vacation time, you can use as much as your supervisor will approve. If you don't have any or enough, coworkers can donate time through an emergency leave bank. As a last resort, we can also borrow up to 240 hours of sick time, but that takes forever to pay back. I took 3 1/2 weeks off and it was good that I did because I ran into some complications after being released. Fortunately for me, I have a very understanding boss who knew why I was taking the time and offered to let me take more if needed.

I think for me it's how extreme food tastes so different now. I've always had a sweet tooth, but now the smell of sweet stuff makes me nauseous. Salty things burn my mouth. I'm still trying to find a happy medium but I'll get there eventually. Oh, and how hard it is to squeeze all of my medications in. I take a lot of pills for migraines and seizures, add in the vitamins and supplements needed and I vomit from them. I'm still working on spacing these out.
-
For my migraines I take Topamax, Amitriptyline, Keppra and Vitamin B2. My rescue medication is Nurtec ODT and additionally I also take Emgality injection every 28 days. I've had a migraine that went unbroken for over a year, so you can see why anything that can trigger one is something I want to avoid like the plague.

That is a very common concern, believe it or not. Because my mom and 2 sisters have Malignant Hyperthermia (allergy to certain types of anesthesia that can be fatal), I'm generally the first surgery of the day.
-
My only big concern was complications and I have to say there are a few that have come up. Overall though I don't regret having the surgery.

Thanks for the clarification. Dehydration is miserable (been there, done that, etc.). I hope you start to feel well enough to be able to increase your fluids. I'm still working on increasing my fluids.

So I don't know what a pain contract is, but I can pretty much guess what it is. From what you described it sounds like the doctor treated you like a drug seeker, which is frustrating and hard to get physicians and other medical personnel to not assume. I would report to hospital administration to reflect the experience you had. If you go back for dehydration and encounter the same type of treatment, you can ask why you are being denied adequate care. I went through this during my pregnancy and it took a surgeon to call screaming to get my ob/gyn to finally give me nutritional support.

What made you decide to have a WLS?
St77 replied to omrhsn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I already was a pretty high risk for a stroke because my migraines are in the stroke region of my brain. However, my cholesterol had sharply jumped up 2 years ago, I was having trouble walking very far without having trouble breathing and my blood pressure had gone up enough that my PCP wanted to put me on medication for it. She was trying to avoid that though because of the number of medications I take to control migraines and seizures. Then came the part of going to places like Disney and Universal where I would get exhausted easily. I didn't have problems fitting into rides at Disney, but Universal is a whole other issue. I almost wasn't able to squeeze into some of the newer rides. I realized that I was missing out on a lot being tired, needing naps all the time and wanted to improve my health. I'm fortunate to an amazing support system. -
Midpoint Measurements and Sizes - 5'2" Female
St77 replied to ja1721's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 4.5 months out from my surgery and at 5'2" I've lost 65 pounds so far. I've gone down from a size 22/20 jeans to a size 14 or in some cases even size 12. To put in perspective, my older sister who had the same surgery (RNY) a few years ago, also 5'2, had lost 45 pounds at the point I'm at. This shows how different weight loss is individually. In my case a lot is probably from nutritional issues and losing weight too quickly. That's an ongoing issue my team is still trying to work out. It's hard to get enough nutrition when you are full for the day after literally one bite of something in the morning. -
Severe slime choking me constantly and acid in lungs at night
St77 replied to Kate207's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the first few weeks after my bypass I kept choking on slime in my throat and that was also coming up when I was heaving. The surgeon said that I had a lot of mucus and that's what was coming up. I wonder if Carafate is something would help the acid issue you are having. Good luck, I hope you find some relief. -
Have you tried using a heating pad? I found that helped me quite a bit. Are you having issues with constipation? That may be behind some of the pain you are experiencing. When in doubt though, call your surgeons office for advice.

Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm 4 1/5 months out from mine and have lost 60 pounds so far. Have a great time at Disney and if there are any good recommendations for restaurants that are good for those of us who've had the surgery, I'd love to know. I'll be there the middle of December.

Gastric Bypass weird phenomenon and more
St77 replied to Baby_mae00's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So I can't comment on much, but two things I will speak of: You never want to have to get a feeding tube if it can be avoided. It sounds like you're padt that point, which is good, but speaking from experience, they are miserable. When you say you are sleep eating, do you mean you wake up in the morning to find food that had been previously untouched suddenly eaten? Or waking up while you're eating something? I ask this because I was a sleep eater when I was in my 20's and it turned out to be a nutritional deficiency. -
How did you reward yourself for losing weight?
St77 replied to omrhsn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine was actually hauling out bag upon bag of clothes that are now way too big on me to a donation center and buying just a few new pieces as replacements. So far I've donated 15 contractor trashbag size full of varying sizes. The nurse practitioner in my team warned me not to buy too many new things as I'll still lose more, but I wanted to treat myself to a refreshed wardrobe, just smaller. -
I've heard of it and mentioned to my dentist that there are times when it feels like my mouth is burning. He actually said to get a packet that has Xylitol, usually you can find that in the sugar substitute sections at Starbucks, etc. and swish a little bit of that around my mouth. Surprisingly it helped. My sister is a hygienist and said that gum with Xylitol can help as well.

I'm 12 days late at this point. But I'm nearly 4 months post op, so I'm a bit further out than you are. I've never had issues with PCOS, the only time I was ever late was when I was pregnant and I knew I was pregnant even before I took the test because I couldn't stop vomiting. In fact, I continued to do so for 34 weeks and 5 days...yeah. that was fun. My husband had a vasectomy (twice because the first didn't take). So we believe it's from my weight loss at this point. I took a test, it's negative and I've got an appointment with my GYN anyways.

Endoscopy yesterday (9/6/2022)
St77 replied to KimA-GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having an endoscopy because I feel like I've got something stuck in esophagus and no one knows what's going on. I don't have issues with GERD anymore, thankfully. But I've have an endoscopy before, so this isn't new for me. The real treat is for the anesthesiologists when they discover Malignant Hyperthermia runs in my family. I've seen a few get real excited when I tell them about that allergy. -
Nervous on vacation!!!! Help!!!
St77 replied to MommaJo1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ah, I feel your pain. I'll be going to Disney with my daughter in December. It's already the land of tempting sweets, but I'm fine not having those. My daughter is a really mature 16 year old and said that she'll share food with me since I don't eat a lot and she wants to make sure I stay healthy. -
New Here and Planning Surgery in October
St77 replied to NewBeginningsMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's office was pretty strict in that I could only have Carnation Instant Bteakfast made with fat free milk and 2 snacks (sugar free Popsicles, sugar free pudding - not the cups though, a very few grapes, etc.). I was hungry for 3 days but after that I completely lost my appetite and just struggled along to get through the diet for the remaining time. -

Very upset after nutritionist appointment
St77 replied to Simples's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
If there's a protein shake without artificial sweetners, I would love some recommendations. My neurologist just changed my rescue medication, put me on a new medication and had to give me something to break a 20 day rebound migraine. Artificial sweetners are a trigger and when I was in the shake phase, I was having migraines everyday as well. -
Very upset after nutritionist appointment
St77 replied to Simples's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Right now, 3 1/2 months out from my RNY, I myself am also struggling to get enough protein in. I'm also struggling just to eat enough in general because I rarely feel hungry. I'd say I probably get about 20g protein a day and my nutritionist has already warned me that unless I can turn it around soon, I'm going to start seeing the negative results of lack of protein (muscle wasting, impact on immunity, affecting my hair, etc.). -
I am currently dealing with that issue. It's been going on for nearly 2 months. The surgeon insisted it was anxiety, which seems to be the go to diagnosis for a lot of things. She put me on Ativan for a week and when I reported back that there's no change, her office scheduled me for an endoscopy with GI. Unfortunately that's not until October 4th.

My surgeon didn't prescribe a ppi?
St77 replied to loli_lotus's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh no, she was very clear that she wouldn't prescribe anything for the pain as she felt the "discomfort" would be manageable with Tylenol. I understand the wanting to avoid overprescribe opioids, but that was just torture.
