Post Op 2.5 months Constipation... Advice needed!!!
St77 replied to ashleydashley's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have chronic constipation so I take Trulance everyday, then miralax twice a day plus senna tablets at nights 3 times a weeks or else nothing will move. It really is miserable. -
Really, don't compare yourself to anyone else. We all heal differently and at our own paces. Try not to get discouraged, it will get easier.

My gallbladder pain felt like someone shoved a hot poker through the right side of my abdomen into my back. It was horrible pain and I was pregnant when I got gallstones, so it was just one more ounce of misery on a terrible pregnancy. I had my gallbladder removed 16 years ago and I still get occasional flare up pain similar to when I had gallstones.

how did surgery save you money?
St77 replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I kissed my love of Cheesecake Factory goodbye. It's expensive and honestly, there isn't anything that sounds remotely appealing anymore, even if I could tolerate the food there. Doordash and Uber eats miss me, but I'm not going back to that habit either, so that's a lot of money saved. -
Fighting Depression and Mental Exhaustion

Hang in there, as hard as it is now, you will get through this! As an RN, you know how important to stay hydrated is and getting the nutrients. Starting the purees might help because it's likely offering something different than the shakes. I had RNY and was alone for most of my recovery. I used that time to allow my body to heal from this major surgery, and when I couldn't nap, I took the time I never had to normally catch up on shows I wanted to watch. Even at 7 months out and complications that I'm having, I don't regret my surgery. I can move easier and breathe easier. I hope you start to feel better. This board is a great place to vent and find support. -
Stuff to keep you warm.... getting cold more easily is a real problem.

Accidently been drinking coffee
St77 replied to BrightNights's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As mentioned above, every team is different. My team was pretty strict, not even decaf was allowed. At 3 months I could start with a limited amount of decaf coffee and at 6 months, 1 cup of coffee with caffeine was allowed. -
Post op gastric bypass Pain
St77 replied to RoyallyElevated's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did for quite a while. What I found helpful was to have a cup of warm tea first thing in the morning. Even now, 6 months later, I tend to fare better having a warm drink before having breakfast. -
I did it just in time for my 40th birthday!

Happy birthday and congrats on the big achievement! -
Even the lack of consistency among the hospital that ran the bariatric program I was in was hysterical. We were told no coffee for 6 months (not even decaf), yet on my 2nd day there was a cup of coffee on my tray. We were told the entire time decaf was fine at 3 months and as long as we're not having any digestive issues, caffeinated at 6 months and beyond is ok.

I've been on PPIs for years because of GERD, which had caused gastritis years ago. There was no signs of problems leading up to my RNY and I had my surgery this past year. I'd say not to get discouraged.

It brings to mind the time when I met my stepfather's mom. She kind of was like mean Maxine from the Hallmark cards and just blurted out the first thing that she thought of. I was 30 pounds heavier at the time and she said "aren't you a plump little thing". I was more amused than offended. Fast forward 3 months later and I've lost those 30 pounds...what does she say now? "weren't you fatter?" I heard my stepfather tell her to apologize, but she just mumbled something under her breath.

Hips and Curves might have something you're looking for. It's always worth looking at.

Just to add a touch of humor to ease any stress you may feel about this, here's something from when I had a breast duct excision a few months prior to my RNY. I was completely stripped down, in my gown and of course the ugly hospital socks. I was knocked out pretty quickly and the first thing I remember when Ii came to in the recovery room was the nurse telling me that when it's time to get dressed, I don't need to put on my bra because they put one on me (it was a compression type thing and pink). Sure enough there it was and the first words out of my mouth were "that's a nice trick wrestling me into a bra".

Congratulations on such progress!

Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

people treating you different

I've had interesting experiences with this. I met my first husband in person (at Disney of all places) and was roughly around 185-190 mark. He was quite a bit thinner than me, yet it didn't stop him from asking me out and eventually getting married. Cut to a few years later, divorced and having gained weight...now I decided let's try online dating. But at this time I was around 210 or so. I found that for the most part the guys I met online weren't negative about my weight when we met, though some who I never met up with would flat out ask how fat I am. I was about to give up on online dating when I got one last message that I chose to respond to. The guy in question turned out to be athletic and thin. And for one of our first dates, he needed to know my weight in order to take me for a flight in a helicopter (no way was I passing that up). I cringed when I told him, but he assured me I was still beautiful. 16 years later I'm still married to that guy. -
My Gastric Bypass Complications (1-2 months post-op)
St77 replied to kukuiokalani's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh that sounds rough! I hope you continue to feel better and don't need any other surgeries. I've had some minor issues since my bypass, mostly a stuck feeling in my throat that never goes away and it doesn't matter if I've eaten or not. I have a twisted esophagus, but GI explained at this point there's nothing to worry about since I can get food down. That leads to the 2nd problem, I am never hungry. I know that can happen and usually goes away, but my nutritionist and even neurologist are concerned that I'm losing weight too quickly. I'm also getting so full after taking my necessary medications in the morning (not counting supplements and vitamins) that I don't get to breakfast until 11 AM or so. -
I'm against the grain here. My c-section was actually less painful than my bypass, but then again I was given pain medication after my c-section vs. Tylenol after my bypass.

I have to do IV iron infusions because I can't take iron pills. I found that it did help with my energy and at the time my hair was actually falling out a bit, so the infusions help (this was before bariatric surgery). I can't imagine you should be taking a multivitamin with iron if you are getting iron infusions, but that's something to ask your doctor.

I was 17 days late in August and when I went to my annual exam, my GYN explained that it's very likely from the weight loss I've had. He did mention to keep tracking them and if anything is continuing to be off, then he'll order testing to check for anything that could be the culprit. My next period was a week early, so I believe it has to do with the weight loss.

Was any imaging done before the surgery? I've heard a bit about this and my understanding is that something would have shown up on imaging. I won't complain about my weird anatomy anymore, I'm all twisted, but it's nothing rare.

I can relate to this on so many levels. I went to the ER with a blinding headache once and was told once that I was not going to be given the drugs I was looking for. Fortunately the neurologist I saw at the time was on call came down and saved the nurse from my temper. I could only see out of one eye and she wanted to send me out the door with a Tylenol. The neurologist snorted at that and loaded me up with with the rescue protocol for my pain. My surgeon who did my gastric bypass insists the issues I've run into are all anxiety. I had to push for testing because I know something was wrong...yeah, I have a staple line ulcer and a slightly twisted ulcer. She wouldn't answer my questions. Atleast my GI doctor did. By far though was when I was pregnant. This damn near killed both me and my daughter. Because I could stop vomiting, I was losing a lot of weight quickly. Yet the chief of the residents clinic insisted that I didn't need nutritional support. At one point I started having pain and my skin took on a yellow tone...that was gallstones. The surgeon was furious that I was essentially being starved, called the residents clinic and made it known how unacceptable it was. I was admitted and 5 days later had a feeding tube in my chest. I went into labor early and labor/delivery insisted I didn't need to be seen because I wasn't in pain. Thankfully a medical assistant wasn't having any of it and pushed for an exam. Yes, I was in labor and they had to rush me because my fluid levels were low and my daughter was very breached. The OB/GYN said had I not gotten in as soon as I did, my daughter would have died and I might have too from further complications.

I'm sorry that happened. I hope you don't have any residual effects from the mini strokes. I only had one once and it freaked me out. My MRIs show lesions that may be related to migraines or may eventually become something far more serious. The one finding that I found amusing was fat in my brain. I actually said to the neurologist "so how much exercise do I need to do to get rid of THAT?".

Be sure to walk as much as you are able after surgery to help with gas pain. Don't buy too many new clothes initially because you'll just have to replace them. And as stated above, trust the process. Good luck!
