    July 2022 peeps!

Hi everyone! Today I am 4 weeks post-op and thought I would give an update. I stopped weighing myself everyday because it was difficult watching a stalled scale. I only weigh on Fridays now. Since surgery (4 weeks go) I have lost 16.6 lbs. I feel very fortunate that I have not had any pain. I feel like I can definitely eat more than a few ounces at a time. I can eat almost up to a cup but I am trying to mindful and stop before that. I can see the weight loss in my face and my clothes are fitting better. I believe that I am down a total of 30 lbs since I started this process. Today, I graduate to soft foods! Finally, some variety! Hope everyone is doing well!

    July 2022 peeps!

I had my two week Post Op appointment this morning. I am right where I am supposed to be. I've lost 18 lbs since Pre-Op diet, wounds are healing nicely and I have advanced to pureed food! I put Amy's Organic Black Bean and Vegetable soup in a Magic Blender and had about 1/3 of it. Delicious after the liquid diet. My husband and I are leaving first thing in the morning to drive from CA to NY (a family cottage)...three days. We used to stop at fast food places but now it will be rest stops since I am bringing my own food...greek yogurt, cottage cheese, shakes and the leftover bean soup. Even my husband is bringing his own food. Since I have not told anyone about my surgery, it was my plan to have the surgery, get clearance to go to NY and by the time I return I will be on regular food (just smaller portions). It will be easier in those social situations back in CA. I am glad everyone is doing well.

    July 2022 peeps!

Had my surgery 7/22. I had no gas pain but definitely pain from the Laproscopic surgery, especially on the right side. I was the last surgery of the day and I stayed overnight in recovery. They didn't have me up and walking until about 5:00am to go to the bathroom. Getting out of bed that first time was painful. It gets better though. I barely lost weight on the Pre-op diet - maybe 4 lbs. I weighed myself the second day after surgery and was up 4.2 lbs. I was bloated from the IV and constipated. Will weigh again when I feel my bloat has gone away. Things I was immediately grateful for after surgery were chapstick, extra long phone charging cord, and my sleeping mask that has built-in speakers. Seriously, those were the only items I used out of my well-packed and well-prepared hospital bag. I stopped taking the oxycodone after the second day and am just on extra strength Tylenol, muscle relaxer, and stool softener. I don't feel hungry and am drinking a combination of protein shakes, chicken broth and popsicles. I am almost up to 64 ounces of water too.

Just got a call that they moved me up! I'm leaving in ten minutes. See you on the other side!

    July 2022 peeps!

Hi everyone, Today is my surgery day. The hospital called me last night and said that my surgery time is 7 p.m.! I couldn't believe that my surgeon would be doing surgery at 7pm on a Friday. However, he is also a Professor of Surgery at a large university here so he probably only does his surgeries in the afternoon. They told me not to eat anything after midnight...and then I have to go the entire day afterwards. I questioned the nurse who called me who then revealed that I could have something in the morning but stop at 10am. So now I am just trying to keep calm today and wait until it is time to leave for the hospital. Thank you everyone for your updates and advice. I hope I can repay the favor!

It was the Pre Op protocol endocscopy. I was due for a colonoscopy as well so did both at the same time.

    July 2022 peeps!

Day 12 of Pre Op - liquid diet (water, protein shakes or can replace one shake with a protein bar). Basically I am having 1,000 calories a day and I am drinking over 100 oz of water every day. I do not feel hungry but I pee a lot. I lost about 5 lbs in the first couple of days and that's it. The scale has not moved in 7 days. In fact, this morning, I was up 0.5 lbs. This is making me nervous. What is going on? Is the scale not going to move once I have the surgery? I keep telling myself to trust the process but this doubt is weighing heavy on me.

My surgery is this Friday and I have only my husband and close family that know about it. At the moment I have no desire to tell anyone. Most of my close friends have seen my weight fluctuate drastically. On another note, throughout this process (specifically endoscopy) I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and my friends know about that diagnosis. My plan is to say that I am working with a dietician and really watching my food intake...which is true. I feel I have no need to expand after that. I did tell my family not to tell anyone. Once I have the surgery, I may feel more relaxed and tell people but right now it is a definite NO. I told them that I am telling them for their support and not to have secrets. However, this is only my story to tell when and if I choose to reveal it. Side note: it took me almost 10 years to get the Celiac diagnosis. Whenever I tried to explain my symptoms, my doctor would always say I have IBS and gastric issues because I am fat. I switched to a new doctor and I couldn't believe my ears when she said that my gastric issues were making me fat! I finally feel like I am on the right path!

    July 2022 peeps!

I feel like I am watching you all go in for surgery and I am really invested in your well-being! Thinking great thoughts! My surgery is in a week and while I am excited and the Pre-Op Diet is totally manageable, the reality is starting to sink in. I am starting to have a bit of anxiety, like the surgery date is fast approaching. Have I done enough to prepare for the hospital and my return? Will I be able to tolerate the pain? Just keep telling myself to focus on the reward.

    July 2022 peeps!

I am day 5 of my Pre-Op diet (surgery is scheduled for 7/22). I can only have 6 protein shakes per day or have 5 shakes plus either 1 cup of broth or a protein bar. I am doing the 5 shakes and protein bar since I won't be able to chew anything for weeks. Hope everyone is doing well!

I received my insurance approval! Surgery is July 22. I am really struggling to make a decision regarding vitamins. It's like my team gave me too many options. Anyone recommend a certain brand or flavor?

This is my first post. I am scheduled for July 22nd. Still waiting for insurance approval. Researching all of my vitamin options now. I have two week pre-op of 4 protein shakes plus any other liquid/broth and one protein bar. I am excited and nervous at the same time.
