Hello everyone! My name is Tiffany, and I'm a proud native Houstonian. I've been married for 4 years and we are the proud parents of our 2-year old son. I currently teach middle school language arts, and I will soon move to the high school level. While I have not been overweight my entire life, I've struggled with persistent weight gain for the past 9 years. In 2003, I was diagnosed with PCOS. Unfortunately, my weight gain got progressively worse while trying to treat my disorder. After doing extensive research, I decided that the Lap-Band was the right choice to help me get my weight back to a normal level. I spent the next 5 years trying to get insurance coverage, but to no avail. Finally, in 2008, I gained coverage through my job; in July 2008, I met with Dr. Garth Davis. For the next 7 months, I completed an insurance-required bariatric nutrition program, gathered paperwork, and prayed. On April 29, 2009, I received word from Cigna that I'd been approved for the surgery. On June 12, 2009, my life changed for the better. Dr. Davis performed the surgery and placed the Realize Band. Since beginning my pre-op liquid diet two weeks prior to the surgery, I've lost 62 lbs. I can already see a visible difference in my physical appearance; I've lost 3 clothes sizes, my feet are no longer swollen, and I've lost 22 inches overall. This is just the beginning of my journey, but I am already excited to reclaim my health and body.
