Anyone Tried to Do the Pre-Op Liquid Diet Before Its Time?

I am a fan of Premier Protein shakes. Chocolate is the only one I've tried that I care for. As far as clear protein, my vote would probably go to Protein2o (the no caffeine one). They seem to have a few flavors but the one I had was Mango Peach maybe? Somethin or other like that. Those are probably what I will be using, so thought I'd throw out the ideas in case you wanted to try any of them. -

So ... 4 protein shakes a day for 14 days. First 12 days I can have half an avocado a day and unlimited non-starchy vegetables. The last 2 days, is strict shakes only. I honestly think I'm just going to do shakes only all the way through. Or at least the last week. I honestly haven't decided. I don't have to start it until the 22nd so I'm still tossing it around in the brain. -

So by definition (at least by my team) clear is: no sugar, caffeine free, and carbonation free. It also says "clear" but broths in general are not literally clear so I take that requirement with a grain of salt. Clear apparently means that you can see through it. If you can see the bottom of the bowl when it's poured, it's clear. Clear means easily digested and leave no undigested residue in your intestinal tract. Here is what I found when specifically searching if bone broth is acceptable: Again, a grain of salt. Your best bet would be to ask your nutritionist that you are working with on your bariatric team. -

Anyone Tried to Do the Pre-Op Liquid Diet Before Its Time?

I did not do any trial runs, but I can say I had to do it. I had my gallbladder removed in April of 2019 in what was my very first ever surgery/hospital visit (not including ERs or urgent cares). I had to do 10 days of the pre-op for the exact same reason as the bariatric surgery - to shrink the liver. Day 3 I remember being the worst part of it all. Day 1 & 2 you're thinking "I can do this, it ain't so bad." Then day 3 comes and you want to die. And then after that, you're just resigned to being miserable for whatever days you have left. 😂 I could only have 3 shakes a day for that one. For this diet I get 4 shakes a day, so I am hoping that it will fulfil hunger better this go around. It's hard, but it's not impossible by any means when you keep yourself in the mindset that you are doing this for YOUR health, and that if you cheat or mess up it's YOU who has to suffer with whatever complications could arise (including having to forego laparoscopic surgery and be cut open). It definitely helped to keep myself on the wagon. -
Trying to decide

I have been on the fence for a while as well. In fact I flat out refused to do it for the longest time, wanting to lose the weight myself. The odds were stacked against me, however, as they are for most people. I started going to the gym with my fiance, and we were keeping a routine. I was well on my way. Then Covid struck. Who knows where I'd be at weight wise by now if I had been able to continue my gym experience. Now I'm just scared to go back because I don't know who has Covid and who adequately monitors themselves. So many people are like eh whatever, you don't know what you're getting into just going to the grocery store! However ... I'm sure it will be a heart attack that kills me before the surgery will. I have 2 bonus kids that need me in their life. I want to be there for them. I've not been able to ensure that on any level for years. It's time. I want to not hurt when I stand or walk. It's just time. Quite plainly. It also helps that I had my gallbladder removed. That was my first ever surgery and it helped me with my trust in the process when it comes to intricate dealings like surgeries. It also increased my confidence that I was required to find a Blue Ribbon facility by my insurance - further decreasing the likelihood of negative outcomes or side effects. Another thing that boosted my confidence is when I found out my surgeon has done over 2000 procedures and not one has had a leak following it. I know I'm in good hands. I have an aunt and both her daughters that had the surgery as well. My fiance is very supportive. A strong support system is probably THE most important thing you can have. That being said, to hell with anyone, family or otherwise, who is not supportive of you and your decisions to create a better you. Find a new group to surround yourself with. Surgery and the lifetime following it are NOT the easy ways out. It is a complete 180 lifestyle change for most and it's hard. But it's worth it and it will keep you here longer for your child. THAT is what matters. Best wishes for you in your future, whatever you decide. -
