Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
daynuhlicious replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a TMI "negative victory." I realize that's an oxymoron, but I'm serious. Sex hurts. My husband is rather well endowed and since I'm losing some butt fat, he is bottoming out and it KILLS. Gonna have to start doing squats to build my back end up with muscle instead of fat, so it restricts his motion again 🤦♀️ Told him just to shave an inch off and we'll be fine ... he didn't appreciate that. 🤣 -
Disclaimer: I skimmed to see if I saw a similar post, and did not - so if this is a repeat, my apologies. I just wanted to create a thread for those of us who haven't yet received the surgery, and even those that are not far out post surgery to list our hopes and goals. I was reading the thread of NSVs and thought, ya know, it might be nice to have a thread where those of us not there yet can dream and hope and plan. Something to look forward to. Something that personally keeps us moving, even as the buyers remorse after surgery threatens to take our motivation and our joy. And this is for anyone, not just a particular surgery, so I didn't pick one when I created the thread. This is not to say we won't have many sweet and unexpected NSV's post surgery - but there are specific reasons we chose this route ... things we wanted back in our lives. Maybe things we've been longing for for YEARS. So let's make those known and focus on those. I'll go first - I have 5 big things I will be looking and waiting for: 1) Sex - for as long as I can remember I have been limited to damn near one position because of my weight. I can not WAIT to be able to experience more flexibility and be able to be more spontaneous for my husband. Poor guy has no spice in his sex life cause his wife is a whale. Sigh. 2) Booths - again, for as long as I can remember, I've had to make sure to ask for a table or ask if the tables in the booths are mobile before being seated at a restaurant. It's embarrassing. 3) Pain - Being able to stand for longer periods of time. Not have to go up or down stairs in a shuffle, having to place both feet on each stair before going further. Less back pain. 4) Medications - I want to come off my blood pressure medications. I'm on the lowest dose, twice a day. So I am hoping that shortly after surgery it will happen. That will make me feel so much better about myself and everything in general. 5) Clothes Shopping - I can't wait to get to go in any retail store and be able to find something to fit me, instead of scouring online trying to find things that fit 6x people. My wardrobe is pathetic because it is difficult to find things that large and when you do, it's usually made with such poor quality it doesn't last very long.

Post Surgery Dreams

I still use a heavy duty chair but this is a very good goal! I figure after about 50 more lbs I'll be okay using regular chairs. I hope. I may still use heavy duty just as a precaution until I mentally realize I'm smaller. Cause the mind is a troll, I tell you! The scale doesn't lie, but my minds perception of myself, DOES! -

I felt this in my SOUL, I tell you. And it is GREAT. Post surgery now - not met all my dreams but this one has happened already. I was able to walk around Target with my fiance and bonus son without my back locking up. It was the BEST feeling. I haven't been able to walk around a store in years without pain. I can also now walk around the block of our neighborhood. There were periods I would be dying just walking from the parking lot! -
So much this. Even now, almost 6 weeks post surgery - sometimes I get depressed because now I only eat to fill the pouch. I don't get to eat to ENJOY food anymore. I know this is a mental thing - and part of my problems to begin with - but it's so saddening.

Surgery Postponed - Emotional Wreck?
daynuhlicious posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So I just got the call today that my surgery was going to have to be postponed a week due to the surgeons availability/schedule. Instead of July 6th, it will be July 14th. I didn't realize I was so attached to the original date. I'm sitting here silently crying because it got moved a week. When I was speaking to the scheduler on the phone, I literally felt my stomach drop when she said it. Instant depression. Can one grieve a literal DATE for something like a surgery??? I'm all kinda in my emotions and it feels really weird because of the reason why. For anyone who might have experienced a postponement - is this normal? -
It is mind boggling to me that people are being told not to use their CPAP machines?! Like, that is a life saving device?? My sleep apnea is so severe, I stop breathing 56 times an hour. My oxygen falls into the 60's. At any point I could just NOT start breathing again. My sleep apnea is the main reason I had to go on blood pressure medicine because it skyrocketed my BP. My body was literally running on fumes. If they told me not to use my CPAP for ANY reason I would flip the bird and put that thing on my face every night. It is not an OPTIONAL thing when you have to use those. I had mine in recovery and in my hospital room to use as I was sleeping. I know "every program is different" but when it comes to a lifesaving device such as a CPAP, I personally don't see any scenario that would feasibly allow that to be banned, even if for a short time.

Hey guys! I hit a week from surgery Thursday. I think I may be the prodigal child and I feel bad about raving about how little pain I was in, how little the gas was a problem etc. But at the same time I want to let others know, it's not always negative! Also, consider about 3 years ago I had my gallbladder removed, so I am fresh to a lot of things these surgeries deal with. Incisions, pre op diet, gas, pneumonia potental, etc. Sorry in advance for the novel. My surgery was supposed to be at 1030am on the 14th, but I think I went under something after lunch. I think they were running a little bit behind lol. I remember coming to and going out many times that first day. I was able to drink from the small medicine cups of water they gave me. I expected there to be pain ... but there wasn't. Granted I had dilaudid at first and then just tramadol. I was up peeing (they keep track of that for kidney function) and walking around the nurses station. Later in the evening/night. I literally just wanted to sleep. But honestly, as annoying as they were waking me up every hour for vitals and asking if I felt up for walking, I really did feel better at least getting one trip around the station every so often. I was discharged around lunchtime the next day. I never touched the prescribed oxycodone nor tylenol for that matter. I never took anything other than my normal pills and the Prilosec except one zofran because the day after I got home (that saturday) the nausea took hold something fierce for some reason. After that though, I never had a problem. I didn't have to use the little spirometer they give you. I just took deep breaths and coughed. Very little phlegm came up overall, but I have no trace of pneumonia. Saturday I also decided to weigh, as I have read others did. I was also up about 3 lbs from day of surgery weight. They put like 3 or 4 bags of fluids in me while I was there, so I don't doubt that was 100% the reason. I decided then that I would just wait for the next appointment before weighing. Sunday, my first day on full liquids, was the worst. You would think that graduating to the next stage would be the last day that would be bad, but when you realize that doesn't really open you up to much more than tomato soup and protein shakes (which you are already sick of by now) - when I tell you mentally I was so done. I regretted the surgery, I regretted becoming fat enough to need it in the first place, I hated everyone and everything. I was hungry ALL THE TIME. I was not one of the lucky ones that lost the hunger hormone and have to "force" themselves to eat and drink. Monday rolled around. I just started taking things day by day. Hour by hour and slowly time started to pass. Thursday was my week post-op appointment. Incisions are healing well, bruising is starting to clear up. Also, the uvula (the dangly thingie in the back of your throat) was irritated and elongated from the breathing tube while I was under. IT WAS DRIVING ME F**KING BONKERS. I can't stand that thing hitting the back of my tongue and making me feel like I have something caught in my throat 24/7. It is just now starting to get back to normal. When I started this journey, beginning with the nutritionist visits in December I was 371.2. On the day of surgery, I was 345. Weight one week post-op was 336.8. Overall, since December down 34.4 and almost 10 since surgery. Granted I could be down less as it is now Saturday, but I refuse to weigh for a while. Maybe not until my 1mth appointment. Just stay the course and see what happens! I'm already seeing little NSVs. Tiny ones, but none-the-less they are there. They are just little reminders that this is a process and I can and will be successful. It's been a while since I've been around so I wanted to touch base. Also to provide info for those still waiting for surgery and those that are fresh out. It DOES get better! Even as soon as a week after. Best wishes to everyone no matter where they are in their journey!

Feel like I've ripped a couple new buttholes at this point just from the pre-op diet. The ONLY thing I have found that works is Dulcolax soft chews. I've been taking Colace twice a day and adding benefiber to my water/shakes and it just wasn't helping. Like at all. The soft chews are my saving grace and I will continue them until hopefully the constipation is a thing of the past.

Do you mean your SENSE of smell or you? I'm not asking to be mean or anything just wondering cause if my hoohah is gonna start smelling Imma start bleaching it. LMAO.

They gave me a can of coke after my gall bladder removal and I just burped like 3 times and I was good. I don't even remember any gas discomfort. Maybe I'll get lucky with this surgery as well!
-
Unfortunately shortly after this post, they had to push my surgery back a week. What would have been last Wednesday is now coming up this Thursday, the 14th. Just finishing day 12 of the 2 week pre op diet. Dying. lol
-
OMG I had covid in May, and they had to make sure my positive test was at least 6 weeks prior to surgery. I thought mine would have to be rescheduled but we had about 2 weeks leeway to spare. Then they moved it back another week anyway for something unrelated >.> The fear while she was doing the math was rough, even if only for a couple minutes.

It is going relatively well. I made it through the 4th only because the family didn't really have some big cookout. Probably because of me, which I am thankful for. Day 6 of 14 now. So I do 4 protein shakes a day. For the first 12 days I can have unlimited non-starchy vegetables, 1 serving of fruit, and 1tbsp (I think) of fats (butter for veggies or half an avocado. I have been sticking to just the protein shakes as much as possible though and only use the veggies etc when I feel like I'm gonna die. As if the morning of Day 5 I was down 6 lbs. Edit: Also helps that the hubs is doing it with me as much as he can. He works in a lumberyard so the heat and manual labor he needs his energy, but if he can, he will just drink protein shakes so I'm not alone. And if he does cheat I don't know about it, so I don't want to as well

So my surgery was originally July 6th, but it got moved to the 14th. I am on Day 2 of the pre op diet. Pray for me. 😂

Surgery Postponed - Emotional Wreck?

I hadn't started it yet, but I am on vacation from work next week and was supposed to start it on Wednesday. So it was REALLY close. Makes me feel better to know I'm not just plain weird or crazy. -

Ohh yes, jeans. God. I don't remember the last time I wasn't wearing stretchy pants. I'm seriously sitting here thinking, and I can't recall. Maybe early/mid 20s? I'm 38 now. Imagine getting those jeans off some retail rack. Not having to hunt them down in bigger sizes! -

Oooh I forgot about this one. The last time I went to an amusement park was years ago at Carowinds (NC/SC). I was riding Drop Zone (tall, chairs go up, lock, and then drop you). The line is always long for this ride. We finally made it, I sat down with my friends and pulled the lock bar over my head and shoulders. The attendant comes around and locks the buckle between your legs to the lock bar. They couldn't get it to click. I had to walk off the ride and through the exit, alone, because I was too fat to ride. I never went back. I sometimes wonder if my love for roller coasters has waned since I haven't been on one in so long. I hope not. The thrill was exhilarating! Can't wait to try again. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

So much this. My dad tried to get me to lose weight and promised me new clothes etc for YEARS. Once I got my biggest, I honestly didn't WANT to lose weight because of this reason. If they can't love me at my worst, they don't deserve me at my best, right? Luckily I found the love of my life while I was at my heaviest and he loves me no matter what. So now, I just get to be better and healthier for him and our bonus kids. I get to improve my health to stay around longer for them since their mother is 9 times out of 10, MIA. -

GIRL. Thank you for saying this. I swear it feels (mainly cause no one talks about it) that I am the only person in the world that has trouble wiping. Sometimes my husband has to help if it's a bad day and I can't bend far enough. I have a bruise on my wrist where it hits the toilet seat every time I wipe. It is horrifyingly embarrassing, but something I live with day-to-day. I can't WAIT for this to not be a problem anymore. -

Concern and fear

It is considered a soft solid because it does not flow like a liquid. But by definition it is neither a solid or a liquid - it is a colloid. Liquid is usually judged by it's state at room temperature. Jello is still solid at that degree. For my program, with liquid stages, it has to be something that is liquid BEFORE it is put into your mouth. Same with pureed. It has to be that consistency BEFORE going in your mouth to count. Otherwise you put yourself at risk for problems. Again, I have learned that all programs are different, but jello is not a liquid once refrigerated and set. -
Blah...my first stall...

To be fair ... also consider the fact of being a woman, for those that are. Our bodies are completely different from men biologically. Due to things our bodies do that men don't, our weight can readily fluctuate from day to day. Water weight, menstruation, stressors - just to name a few - can affect our weight loss/gain even with something as restricting as bariatric surgery. The weight comes off differently from women compared to men as well. Men don't plateau as often or as long typically either. Being a woman comes with a whole different scope of resistance that we have to battle through to get the same results. Just stick with it and, as stated, if weighing less often is better for you personally to see a bigger picture of loss then do that. It doesn't hurt anything. Edit: Another thing that could help is to fluctuate your caloric intake. If you steadily take in 500 calories, your body will adjust to living on that 500 calories. Meaning suddenly. you aren't burning more than you're taking in. This is why most calorie restricting diets do not work long-term. Edit2: Along with changing up caloric intake, adjusting how much you're burning as well can help. You just have to not let your body get set into a routine and get comfortable. -

Maybe not every program/surgery is the same, and I don't know which surgery you had ... but I'm extremely concerned they allowed you jello right out of surgery. My program (and most others I've seen) require at LEAST a week of pure liquid and continue with phases for increasing food textures and quantity to allow proper healing of the stomach and to prevent staple tears and whatnot. Eating a consistency of food before your body is ready can cause extreme pain you are feeling. It could be a stricture as others have stated, but I'm just stuck on, and appalled at, the speed with which they had you eating soft solids. Just my 2 cents.
