Thanks for sharing! I recently had my six week evaluation and so far I’ve lost 12 kilos or 26 pounds after surgery, so I’m pretty much on track for my starting weight. Yes, the stalls can be very frustrating and I had one for almost three weeks in the beginning of this month. But then the number on the scale started moving again. I still vomit sometimes, especially after dinner, no matter how careful I try to be. Happened tonight. So that’s my biggest problem, still.

Has anyone experienced pain on the left side? I've had this pain on the left side for two days now, near the waist or hip, somewhere in between. It's not acute pain, more like if I had a cut or something there, but there's nothing visible. This is lower than the surgery scars I have on my tummy and more to the side. It's unlike gas pains, at least unlike anything I've had. And I'm taking the antacids still.

It's terribly frustrating, but at least you are still losing. And you've already lost 43 pounds, which is a lot!

Anyone with a lower BMI get weight loss surgery to reduce comorbidities?
Sunnyer replied to Barihopeful's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had BMI 35 when I had the sleeve, am now down to 32. I was taking meds for high blood pressure and blood sugar, so that was one of the main reasons for choosing surgery. I did pay for the surgery myself, as I was told I did not weigh enough or have enough co morbidities to qualify for surgery paid by insurance,. In your husband's shoes, with all his co morbidities, I would certainly consider it. -
Great that you are experiencing so many benefits! I wonder about my BP meds too, I too have lost 30 pounds, and I'm still taking two BP meds. I don't know if or when that will change. Last week I forgot them twice, because now I have to take them in the morning due to nausea, and mornings tend to be hectic in my household. I did discontinue the blood sugar medication, but I would love to be able to say goodbye to at least one BP med. That would be so great.

Five weeks after surgery today, and after more than a two week stall, I finally started losing weight again this week. Today, for the first time in more than a decade, I weighed less than 100 kilos (220 pounds). I'm 99.5 kilos or 219 pounds. I know it's just a number on a scale, but it made me so happy. I've lost 13.5 kilos (28.6 pounds) pre and post surgery, and I've already completed more than 1/3 of my final goal. What, if anything, have you done to celebrate a mini goal or the end of a stall? I feel like doing something, but I don't know what. In the past I would probably have bought myself something good to eat, but that's not an option anymore.

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?
Sunnyer replied to LaLaLand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm five weeks past surgery and the pain was a lot less than I expected. I did get some strong pain meds in the hospital, but when I came home I only had normal pain meds and I stopped using them after a few days. I did have some problems with gas and nausea, but in all I was surprisingly well the day after surgery and I did go to work a couple of days before two weeks had passed. Before this surgery, I've had a c-section, shoulder surgery and surgery for fibroids. Of the four, this one was the least painful. If you follow what the doctors tell you and take pain medication, you should be fine. -
I had a stall for more than two weeks after I started on solid foods. It was really frustrating, but recently I started losing a little weight again. All you can do is be patient. In the first days and weeks after surgery, you are losing a lot of water weight. Then your body starts adding the water weight again, but you're still losing fat. You just don't see it on the scale for a while, since the re-added water makes up for the fat loss on the scale. Just stick to your program. Eventually you will start losing weight on the scale again.

Yes, I'm taking Omeprazole. My nausea isn't that terrible anymore, I just have to be very careful what I eat, and eat very little at a time and slowly. The way it works for me, is that I'm eating and everything is going fine. Everything is measured in advance and I'm not eating more than usual. And then all of a sudden, I feel like I've eaten too much and sometimes I have to throw up. It comes on pretty fast and here's no prior warning.

I had the gastric sleeve a month and four days ago. I did not get a calorie level recommendation from anyone, no. Currently, I am eating every three or so hours, but I cannot stomach either protein powders or greek yogurt. So I eat mostly chicken, eggs, fish, ground beef and some veggies. Not a lot of fruit. Sometimes a half or a whole protein bar per day. I cannot eat much more than around 40-50 grams of meat at a time. If I eat more I will throw up. So, I'm pretty much eating as much as I can. The only way to increase the calories would be with fruit juice or something like that, which is not on my list of recommended foods.

Is anyone else feeling sleepy during the day and/or falling asleep after work? I'm getting at least seven hours of sleep every night and more on the weekend, but I feel awfully sleepy in the afternoon and quite often I fall asleep on the couch sometime between 5 and 7 PM, even if I don't intend to. I'm eating 4-600 calories per day and getting 40-60 grams protein daily, so I feel like I should have enough energy to stay up. Now it's almost 10 PM and I have a headache and want to go to sleep, even if I didn't get up until 7:30 this morning AND took a nap in the afternoon. Has anyone dealt with this and found a way to become more energetic and less sleepy?

That will probably change in time. I find that my taste in food has changed somewhat. I no longer crave bread or chocolate, for instance. I went out to eat yesterday with people from work and had a chicken soft taco. Ate the chicken, which was fine. Had a tiny bite of the tortilla and I didn't like it. And I used to love tortillas. I'm averse to more foods than I used to be, but meat still tastes good and agrees with me. But I know someone who had gastric sleeve a while ago and still can't eat meat. So, it's very individual. At least you are free from cravings, if nothing tastes good.

God, I hope so. I have actually googled: "Is it possible to lose only 20 pounds total after gastric sleeve", and I've read some of the stories from people with gastric sleeve "fails", but they're still mostly people who in the end regained what they lost. From what I've read, I do know that this stall has to do with water balance in the body, but it's still hard not to feel like a failure. People are starting to notice that I'm thinner - my cleaning lady came in the other day after more than a month, and the first thing she said when she came in the door was: "You are slim!". My stomach is a lot smaller and I see a difference in my face and neck. But it's still very frustrating to see a same or similar number on the scale every day. Especially since I'm hovering just over the 100 kilo mark and never dipping under it. I haven't been under 100 kilos in more than a decade, and I would so very much want to be.

That's great. Congrats! I'm 30 days past surgery and still feel kind of weak. I get winded from walking and I fall asleep most afternoons after work. I am getting closer to my protein goals, although my weight has stalled now for almost two weeks. I'm not sure I'm glad I had this surgery.
-
Wow, two and a half weeks! That must have been so stressful. I'm on day 12 of my stall, so it's almost two weeks and it's just so incredibly demoralising.

They haven't really advised me about calorie amounts, and I have my first post surgery appointment in two weeks. I gained weight today, after 680 calories yesterday. Now my stall has lasted for ten days. How long was your longest stall?
-
I hit a stall at 2 weeks and five days, and I'm at four weeks now and still at a standstill. So I've been in a stall for a week and two days. To be honest, I'm afraid that this is it. That I will have gone through painful and expensive surgery, only to lose a little over 20 pounds and nothing more. I'm eating 4-600 calories most days. The highest I've gone is 900 calories (included fruit juice) and the lowest was under 200 calories when I was feeling really bad and couldn't get anything down. The day after I ate 900 calories I gained 700 grams, so I don't think upping the calories is the answer.

How soon after surgery did your blood pressure go down? I am hoping that my blood pressure will get lower once I start losing more pounds. As it is, I haven't really been measuring my blood pressure post surgery, although I probably should. I have had a had time taking my blood pressure meds after the gastric sleeve, and I have even thrown up my pills a couple of times. I used to take them all at night, but now I take two pills at night and two in the morning, because four in one sitting is too much.

I had to have shots against blood clots every night for ten days. I couldn't do it to my self, so my sister and my best friend took turns giving me shots.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Sunnyer replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Today I was able to get my middle finger and thumb to touch around my wrist. I have pretty short fingers and haven't been able to do this in years. Also, today I gave all my biggest fall and winter coats to Ukranian refugees. I don't need them anymore. -
I cook them on a non stick pan with a tiny bit of oil. I tried a soft boiled egg yesterday, but for some reason it didn't agree with me, although I tried to chew as much as I could. I couldn't even finish the whole egg and I ended up throwing part of it up. So it's back to scrambled.
-
Is that only coffee, or any drinks with caffeine? I was under the impression that we should avoid soft drinks (soda) and anything with bubbles for at least a month and possibly forever. I have never liked coffee and don't drink much tea, but I did have a soft spot for Pepsi max and other sugar free sodas. But I haven't had any since the surgery. I realise this is a good opportunity to quit for good, but I miss it. I could stay off alcohol indefinitely, that doesn't bother me.
-
Yes, I remember that first scrambled egg. It was sooo delicious. Congrats on being in the soft food phase. I can only eat one scrambled egg at a time, still, so you're lucky.
-
That sounds good. I tried greek yogurt, twice, but even though it was lactose free (i'm lactose intolerant) it didn't agree with me. Im fact, it didn't agree with me so much that I ended up throwing up and haven't tried it since. I did buy some sugar free jello and sugar free jello puddings, but unfortunately they are included in the many things that make me gag post surgery. I'd never tried the puddings before, but I had tried sugar free jello from time to time and found it ok, but now I absolutely can't. Same with protein puddings, just the smell makes me sick. I thought I was done with vomiting, since I hadn't done so in a week, but tonight I did again. All I had was a soft boiled egg. I've had scrambled eggs plenty of times before and it was always ok, so I thought I could try soft boiled. I hadn't even finished half the egg when I had to throw up. Feeling kind of defeated tonight, but I guess I'll email the nurse again for advice.

How was the 2 week liquid diet
Sunnyer replied to ShannyG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My clinic didn't require us to do a liquid diet pre op. They only asked me to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery and suggested a low carb diet, but didn't require any special form of diet. I was on vacation in July and pretty much ate and drank whatever I wanted for three weeks, and still lost two kilos (4.4 pounds). After that, I only had one more kilo (2.2. pounds) to lose before surgery and that was pretty easy. I just didn't eat added sugar and tried to stick to meat and veg.
