How long did you drink protein shakes after bypass?
Therese22 replied to Mona Ometuruwa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I Love this and agree, I also appreciate the post up above the protein breakdowns in different foods. I do not do protein shakes everyday but that means I am ensuring I am hitting my protein goals. I love Protein yogurts like the Oikos triple zero brand-can add additional protein powders here; I also add unflavored protein or vanilla flavored protein to my oatmeal ( I love oatmeal in colder weather months fiber + protein)-this can get me to close to 40 grams of protein in the morning . You may need to meal prep to ensure you are getting what you need till you can eyeball it and know. Also, Vitamins are KEY. -

I finally can buckle my seatbelt on the plane without an extender. It had to happen twice for me to believe it!. Saw the Lion King on Broadway and I had extra room in my seat!! What a feeling!!! -

I did my 4 month post op measurements and It was the first time in years that my measuring tape fit around my hips, for accurate measuring, without me having to mark and remeasure due to my hips being larger then my measuring tape fitting once around. What a feeling! -
I am Definitely curious about labs for those who use the patches. My Team recommended the patches, I am only 2 weeks post opp tomorrow so labs will be in another 2.5 months.

I agree with SleeverSK whole heartedly! This right here is not fair to yourself. We cannot control others reactions just as they cannot control our own. Try to focus on your goals, your accomplishments and try to tune out others (which I know is hard and I struggle as well). Also, I believe in the power in words we use. Try to build yourself up with words. If I may, i'd change this statement to be " I will not fail and though some in the health care may see me with different eyes they do not know nor may they ever understand the struggle, sacrifice and immense work physically, mentally and spiritually I have put in to be where I am now. Whatever the foundation of their 'different eyes' I will go forth into victory." you will be victorious! -
I am 10 days post opp( week 2), thin liquids as well with cream soups, pudding, Greek yogurt. Soft veggies are not on my list till week 3 with Puréed but every surgeon/nutritionist is different. As long as you are tolerating it should be fine.

As a medical professional this just saddens and angers me that an environment was created where you felt this way. It is horrible and shame on them. This does not represent all medical professionals at all. At my heaviest I have been blessed to have kind providers but I will say that one of my patients told me straight that he was interviewing me and would decide after the first visit if I would remain his provider. I recommend you interview and find the best fit for you. ☺️ -
Hey, I am 8 days post op today and I definitely recommend the multivitamin patch as well. My Doc doesn't have me starting the bariatric B vitamin complex till I see him at my 10 day post opp on Monday. The first 7 days post opp I had my 1 oz medicine cups and I was advised to shoot for 4 cups in an hour-so I would give myself 15 mins to finish 1oz. I kept a timer on my phone and it helps alot. I am now on thin liquids and still using the same method. Protein is key so I drank Premier clear Protein during my clears week which helped. I have not felt hunger but I noted feeling weak/fatigued, which clues me in that I am not getting enough calories in.

Post Surgery Dreams

All these are so good! Thank you for sharing everyone. I am 1 week post opp. I look forward to 1. No longer needing the seatbelt extender on a plane and fitting comfortably in the seats that have the solid dividers. I am wider at the hips and I would have bruising/pain and numbness for days after (especially when flying internationally). 2. Trying any sport I want! I love being active and I am competitive but to feel the freedom to be adventurous again without significant pain. HUGE 3. CLOTHES in regular stores! periodt! 4. I agree about Roller Coasters as well. I have taken that walk. 5. Not worrying about if I will fit in a chair. -
Hello Jelani, I primarily had bypass for weight loss but I am so excited to no longer have to take my acid reflux medication. Even if your surgery was primarily for acid reflux you still need some guidance on how to transition as your new pouch matures. I recommend seeking out a Bariatric Nutritionist to start and consider a therapist as well to support you.

Hey Health4longerlife, First thank you for being so transparent about your current and prior struggles. I just had my RNY surgery about a week ago and have gotten so much from reading others posts. I applaud you for making this decision for bariatric surgery, no matter what your "why" is. I feel you have a clear idea of what is going on and what to do but now you just have to take that step. I would advise you to look into therapy. I agree that the cost can be high but the rewards will be immeasurable. I have used https://www.psychologytoday.com/us to find a therapist. They will list their pricing on there as well. Please consider this for yourself. You have already come so far and I know there is so much living left for you to do for you and your loved ones. We are here for you! Therese

I definitely understand the thoughts behind this decision. I am also self-pay. My GERD Score was in a range where I had either as an option but after hearing about potential for worsening of GERD, my history and continued work with my relationship with food and goal to lose more than 100 Ibs, I opted for Bypass. It is an investment for sure. I do not feel there is a wrong choice.

June surgeries? Tell me your preparations
Therese22 replied to Songbyrd420's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum but very excited. My surgery Day is fast approaching June 9, 2022. I have prepared so far sticking to my Pre-op diet of high protein, low carb (<40 grams total a day), continuing to work out with my trainer and by stocking up on chicken broth, water, protein (that I like currently and hope to like after) and cleaning my house just in case I may not feel up to it after surgery. : D
