Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Jeanniebug replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I bought an adjustable dress form, before surgery. I couldn't afford one that would fit me, because I was too large. So, I bought a mid-sized form that I could afford and just padded the heck out of it. Today, I tried to make the form smaller, to match what my measurements are now and it won't go as small as I need it to be. This is absolutely shocking to me, because I'm really not that small. I'm just... floored. -
Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.
Jeanniebug replied to areyoukiddingme's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We had Chinese about a month ago, or so. I had Hunan Chicken with steamed rice and Chicken Lo Mein. I did not eat the fortune cookies. I didn't dump. But, I took very small amounts and, like you, I definitely stopped before I was full. I don't dump, but I do get reactive hypoglycemia. So, if I'm going to eat something high in carbs, I know that I'm going to have to eat something low carb and high protein within 2 hours, or my blood sugar will crash. -

I've had more stall than loss, too. Hang in there. ETA: Congratulations on the better health, too! -
Does Eating really get easier?
Jeanniebug replied to Phish_Monkey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh, I'm not sure about that... Maybe? -
I did the same thing as @BabySpoons - but a few years before surgery. I switched from cigs to vapes and weaned myself down to the 0% juice. Smoked that for awhile, then put it down completely. You can do this. You can do hard things!

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY have an update on my revision!!

Yay! I've been thinking about you. I'm so glad to hear that you have a clean bill of health and the process is moving forward. -
Does Eating really get easier?
Jeanniebug replied to Phish_Monkey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm almost 8 months out and depending on the food, I can eat almost a whole cup in one sitting. But, I have some days where I can only eat half that amount. It was a bit startling... One day, I woke up and I could suddenly eat twice as much as I was able to eat just the day before. It was like my stomach relaxed, literally overnight. My nutritionist said that I shouldn't expect to ever eat more than about 1 cup, for the rest of my life. This is supposed to be our new "normal". -
Surgery Monday and I’m GROSSED OUT by protein powders !
Jeanniebug replied to Mari3997's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep trying different ones. My favorite is the Fairlife. They're expensive, but they are the best, in my opinion. ETA: And your taste buds will likely change, after surgery. So, the ones you don't like now, you might like later. -
Sweeteners after gastric sleeve
Jeanniebug replied to Cheesekitty7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use sugar free Coffee Mate. I've been using it since day 1. My preferred sweetener is stevia, but it took a while for me to acquire the taste for it. Now, I love it. At first, I thought it was awful. -
I'd ask my surgeon to order an upper GI series.

High LIver Enzymes and Ferritin 8-7 months post op, help?
Jeanniebug replied to Laura M's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yep. Same. My liver enzymes have been high. My initial ferritin was high, but 6-months post op, it came down to normal. The liver is still elevated. This is very, VERY common for the first couple of years after bariatric surgery. -
Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.
Jeanniebug replied to areyoukiddingme's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 7-months post op, gastric bypass, and I've never had an episode of dumping. That said, I don't eat much in the way of refined sugars. The most I've ever eaten of a high-sugar food is one tiny half-bite of a piece of cake. I only did that once and I had no problems, but I don't want to push it. I haven't yet eaten at a sit-down restaurant, since surgery, but I would have no qualms about doing so. I would just have to ask for a doggy bag, with the meal, because I know I'll only be eating about 3/4 of a cup of whatever is on my plate. Now that I'm further along, I have no food intolerances. There really isn't anything that causes me diarrhea or nausea. If I eat too fast, or force myself to eat too much, I will have some pain and discomfort - but that's a behavior modification issue, not a tummy problem. -
Hmmm... You have 4 kids. Clearly there's enough attraction for him to be able to make babies... Nevertheless, he's saying inappropriate things and you are getting angry and resentful. Thankfully, these are things that can be worked on. I see you mentioned that you go to church. Perhaps you can utilize your pastor for marriage counseling?

If you're drinking protein shakes, make sure they don't have "whey protein concentrate". You want the isolate, not concentrate. Those give me all kinds of tummy problems.

Multi Vita and Medic Alert bracelet
Jeanniebug replied to loras68's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I developed post-bariatric hypoglycemia. So, I got one of those MyID sleeves to wear on my step tracker band. It just says that I had a gastric bypass and that I have hypoglycemia. I didn't get the ID until I developed the blood sugar issue - if I hadn't developed that, I wouldn't've gotten it. -

I haven't been camping in about 30 years. We always ate junk food when we camped. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, canned foods. I'd say that the healthiest things we ever ate would be the breakfast foods. Bacon, eggs, pancakes. One-pot meals that you can prep before leaving would be the easiest to manage, I would think. Sorry, I know that's not much help.

Bariatric Surgery Doubts
Jeanniebug replied to lp1266's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think doubts are normal, especially if we start focusing on all the possible complications. This is major surgery, it's a big deal, and we really shouldn't go into it lightly. Just remember, pretty much all the complications can be treated if caught in time. Though I have developed a couple of little complications myself, I have absolutely no regrets! I am no longer diabetic. My cholesterol is back to normal. My blood pressure is normal. I'm in the "overweight" category now. I can buy clothes off the rack, no special sizing needed. I have more energy. I'm developing a healthier relationship with food. I wouldn't change a thing. -
I haven't had any issues with intercourse. You might want to speak with your doctor.

10 months PO severe pain under left rib radiating to shoulder
Jeanniebug replied to Kate207's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 19 when I had my gallbladder out, so it's been a few (ahem) years. I'd forgotten which side it was on. And I didn't look to see where my scar was. LOL! I just remembered that the pain went all the way through my body. -
Nice! Everyone else that I've seen has been all over the place.
-
I know that various joint pains are fairly common, after weight loss. When my back hurts, I go to the chiropractor.
-
Fairlife shakes were the only ones I could tolerate, right after surgery. Expensive!!! But, they were my main source of protein until I was on solid food.

Sounds like the gallbladder. I hope you get some answers!
