    I have hit a Plateau...

My first stall happened at 2 weeks post op. It lasted for 2.5 weeks. Finally, about 4 days ago, the scale started to move again. But, my ring started falling off and I was starting to see the weight loss in my face and feel it in my clothes. So, even though the scale wasn't moving, I was losing inches. Stay the course. Be patient. If you're making yourself crazy, stay off the scale.

    Struggling

You have to just keep reminding yourself that it's temporary. Plug your nose while you drink it, you won't taste it as much. Have you tried adding unflavored protein powder to your broth?

  7. I am really happy that I decided to see a therapist. Food is just a symptom, it's not the problem. The problem is me and what's in my head. And I'm really hoping to avoid transfer addictions.

    Onederland!!!

Thank you! Thanksgiving wasn't a problem, at all. I just ate turkey and gravy. After I got home, I ate some pumpkin fluff. I was actually surprised that I wasn't tempted by the mashed potatoes or stuffing. However, my husband made all the bread and rolls. I was tempted by the smell of the bread baking, but I was able to resist.

    My VSG

Hmm... Have you tried taking your vitamins at mealtime? I know that food can buffer the tummy.
  10. I started therapy about a month and a half or two months before surgery. Most of my fears were about complications, not so much about relationships. I once lost a lot of weight, about 5 or 6 years ago. So, I know that my marriage can handle me being thinner and eating differently. My goal is to be about 30 pounds smaller than I was at that point, but I'm not worried about my relationship. As far as attention from men, it's not really something I'm exposed to, very much. I don't really go anywhere where men can approach me - unless they do it at the grocery store or post office. In which case I can just say, "Thank you. I'm flattered, but I'm married." But, I'm sure I won't look like a good target, anyway - even after I lose weight. I dress very, very modestly. In my profile picture, I'm wearing a pajama shirt that is probably more skin than you'll see of me in public - that and my lower arms. I mostly wear t-shirts and ankle-length skirts when I leave the house. I also cover my hair. There are so many other ladies out there, to take a man's attention - he likely won't want to waste his time looking at me. And that's the way I like it.

    My VSG

Have you tried the vitamin patches? I've heard others say they had good luck with them. Being cold is a common complaint. I once saw a picture of a gal wearing a down vest and long sleeve shirt. She showed the thermometer - it was 105 degrees. Maybe an electric throw blanket, or heating pad will help?

    Cardiac patients?

I'm a cardiac patient, but on the very light end of the spectrum. I have a non-lethal, but insanity-inducing arrhythmia. I have severe, severe palpitations. I have premature atrial and premature ventricular beats. My cardiologist is simply treating me (not super successfully) with metoprolol. The problem with metoprolol, is it might make my blood pressure drop, since having surgery. So far, so good, but I have to watch it. Unfortunately, metoprolol is the only medication that treats my condition.
  16. I only care about my protein and the amount of water that I'm getting, right now. I've started eating more now - I'm up to 1/2 a cup and I'm really only drinking 1 protein shake per day. But, I am tracking, just to make sure that I get enough protein every day. I'm hitting the goal, no problem. I'm thinking I might do the Portion Fix program, once I'm on solid food and can eat more. I did it before surgery and I really thought it was a great program. It was very clean eating and felt healthy. I couldn't stick with it because I was STARVING all the time - but that was just my hormonal imbalance. Now that I don't have to worry about that anymore, I think it will be a good plan.

    Tailbone found!

I've heard that this is a common complaint. They sell special cushions with a tailbone cutout.

It will go by faster than you think. Just keep following the plan.

    October 2022 surgery support

I had surgery on 10/18 - the day after you. I have lost 19 pounds since day of surgery. My profile is misleading, because it shows my highest weight, which was 245. It doesn't show you that my surgery weight was 220. So, take heart, I've lost less than you.

    Head Hunger vs Actual Hunger

In the hospital, I thought I was having hunger pangs, but I truly believe it was just pain. That continued for a day or two and then it went away. I can't remember when the hunger started coming back... It's been at least a week, but maybe two. I'm 4 weeks post op. My stomach sometimes growls, but it doesn't necessarily feel like hunger, so that's not a good way for me to tell. I don't know. I just feel like I'm starving, like my blood sugar is starting to get low (I'm diabetic so I'm familiar with the way that feels). It's not like cravings. I get cravings - like for chocolate, for instance. But that's not hunger for me. That's more of a "want" and something that sounds good; whereas the hunger is more of a physical "need".

You're doing great! As long as you're meeting your protein and hydration goals and sticking to the plan, all you can do is be patient. The weight will come off, eventually, as long as you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Hang in there!

    Day 7 concerns

Are you tracking your calories? At a week out, you're probably not getting much over 500 calories a day. Logic says that consuming only 500 calories a day, you're going to lose weight whether you want to or not. But, your body is freaking out, right now. It doesn't know what you've done to it. It has to adjust to its current condition and then you will start losing again. Stalls - and even slight weight gains - are a normal and expected part of the process. If you're going to weigh yourself everyday, then you need to come to terms with this fact. The scale is going to go up and down, but the overall trend will be downward. If you're making yourself crazy with it, then switch to once-a-week weigh ins.
  23. This is what my plan says. I take this to mean pretty much forever, or for a long time, anyways. And that's fine, most carbs are trigger foods for me, so I should stay away from them. THESE FOODS ARE ALL HARD TO TOLERATE AND DO NOT SUPPORT YOUR LONG TERM WEIGHT LOSS GOALS Bread, pastries, muffins, bagels, rice, flour tortilla, pasta, and flour-based products. They foods form a dough ball, which can swell up and plug the stomach outlet resulting in pain or vomiting. Greasy and deep-fried foods are often hard to digest and poorly tolerated. Sugar and sweets can cause dumping syndrome and inadequate weight loss. Carbonation (soda, flavored waters, and alcohol), sugar sweetened drinks, and juice.

    October 2022 surgery support

I'm 4 weeks and 2 days post op. I'm down 18 pounds since surgery. My clothes are also looser and I really love it, too. My weight loss was happening really fast, in the first couple of weeks and it was kind of scaring me. Thankfully, it has slowed down. I start soft foods, today. So far, I haven't had any problems with getting in enough protein and water. My hunger is really starting to return. So I've had to start eating food more often. I was eating 3 times a day, now I'm up to 5. I've cut down my use of protein shakes to 1 or 2 per day. I was drinking 3, before. I'm typically getting anywhere from 600-900 calories per day. I was cleared for exercise, so I've been doing slow walks on my elliptical - 15 minutes a day and keeping it under 7 miles per hour. I'm trying real hard not to overdo it. My incisions are healing. I have one that was bigger than the others and it's being a little slow to close up. I still have some bruising. I'm still fairly sore. But, if I sneeze now, I don't feel like I'm going to die. So that's progress.

    Dealing with Sabotage

Wow... Just, wow... I agree with others about locking the fridge and cabinets - and throwing away all the junk she brings into the home. Ask her if she wants to go into a lockdown dementia facility. Because the way she's acting, that's where she belongs. You might want to have an intake nurse come evaluate her, just to prove the point that you mean business. If she doesn't straighten up and fly right, she's being sent to a home. Clearly she's incapable of feeding herself proper food and she's losing her memory - proven by her eating your special food and saying she didn't.
