Please help!! I almost knocked my wife over as I ran to the store last night and polished off a QUART of ice cream. That's all I could think of, was that ice cream last night. I do not do this very often, but what causes this behavior? Any help would be appreciated. HELP!!!

Thanks so much for responding. Your reply makes sense and I will take it to heart. I had a good day before this happened too. It's almost like I sabotaged myself. In spite of all of learned, in spite of the surgery, I still can't get it into my hard head to eat the right foods. I think I will go ride my stationary bike!! -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Need experienced/successful bander
jkend50035 replied to bbypookins's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had a similar problem with my band. It has slipped a bit and the Doc took all the fluid out in the hopes it will fall back into place. Since then, I have been struggling mightily--eating alot and feeling hungry--and have gained 10 lbs. I have lost 57lbs altogether--it was 67lbs. So I am in the same boat you are. I don't know how to reverse this slide, until I get my band fixed. Maybe we can talk about it. -
It takes most people 3-4 fills before they get the restriction needed to lose the weight you want. Sometimes you are restricted after just 1 fill, but that is not the norm. Good luck!!

Hi Jeff!! How the heck have you been doing?

By all the coughing I am doing at night lately-- And beyond that, am I putting my band at risk for all my PB-ing and coughing? I am sure I am a bit too tight, but I don't want to be a wuss about it and get an unfill, unless I am sure I am not doing everything right myself. I try to stop eating by 6PM and I do do that most every night. But I do slip once in a while and have a bit to eat at maybe 8PM. So I think it is my fault for all the coughing that keeps me up all night. I really would like someone elses take on this--Thank you.

I went thru the nighttime coughing and vomiting in my sleep, just like you. But I wasn't so fortunate. My upper GI yesterday showed my band had slipped, and now I am going to my Doc this morning and he said I was too tight. I sure hope my band will go back into place, but frankly I don't know what to expect when I see him this morning. I am VERY apprehensive that I will have to have the band taken out, or that I will need an operation to re-position it. If that is the case I am not sure I will go through with it. I have lost 67 lbs and I need to lose 33 more. I just don't know.

I am going in for an upper GI today to rule out that my band may have slipped. If it has slipped, what will that mean for my band? I have heard 2 different things: 1. Go on full liquids for 2-3 weeks and hope that the band resets itself. 2. I would have to have surgery and it has to be taken out. Has anyone had any experience with this, or know someone who's band has slipped? Thanks!!

Absolutely!! The stomach is moving and churning constantly. That is why you can eat one kind of food and it is fine one day, and not on the very next day. Good luck!!

Insurance can make me sick sometimes
jkend50035 replied to desavko's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a similar experience with my ins co. They told me they no longer cover fills, in fact, they said they had an audit and they should never have even covered the surgery itself!! That unnerved me to say the least.... My Doctor has been working with me on a payment plan to pay for my fills, thankfully. I would think most Docs would work with a patient given the economic times we are in. Good luck! -
Well, I took everyone's advice and went in to get an unfill--thanks all for responding. I feel better already. Here's the thing though--It was my 2nd consecutive unfill, and my Doc said he wanted me to have an upper G. I. to see if the band has slipped. If it slipped, does that mean I will have to take the band out?????
-
My band also gets tighter after 2-3 weeks, same as you. Others always talk about the band loosening, but not me. It's happened that way after every fill I've had.
-
Mine pre-filled to 4cc's and then started filling more 6 weeks later, then a fill once a month. It took me 4 fills before I reached a good restriction. It was a long wait and I was frustrated with that, but I do understand why they sneak up on it, because I ended up too tight, and for sure it is no picnic.
-
It's tricky. Sometimes food that goes down fine one day, won't go down the next day. The saliva you are throwing up is called "sliming". Ewwwwwwww!! If you actually throw up, it's called a PB: Productive burb!! Good luck!

You should go slowly and easy--trust me, I've been there. I got too tight and it is not a very pleasant experience. Once you get to your proper restriction, and it sounds like you are getting there, you should lose like 2 lbs per week. Take this time to eat slower and chew well, and take small bites. See how this restriction goes--for me , I got tighter as time went on, different than most. Be patient--at 2lbs per week, you lose 104lbs in a year!! Best of luck to you!

When did you actually feel Restriction with your Fill?
jkend50035 replied to Sommerbrez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It was also very frustrating for me during those early fills--it just seemed like I would never get there. But trust that you will--it takes most people like 4 fills to get to the proper restriction, although some get there earlier. It is a shame that your doctor only does fills on Wednesday. I had the opposite problem, where my band got too tight and I needed an unfill. My doctor and his assistant are terrific about getting you in right away to get you comfortable. He even gave me an unfill between surgeries! Trust me, you think you are not happy because you aren't restricted yet, if you become too tight it is an awful experience. So just be patient and sneak up on that proper restriction--you will get there eventually. And I hope that if you become too restricted that your doctor would give you an unfill right away, and not wait a whole week until his normal Wednesday. Best of luck to you--you will get there, I promise!! -
Don't be surprised if it takes a number of fills to get you to the proper restriction. Good luck!

When did you actually feel Restriction with your Fill?
jkend50035 replied to Sommerbrez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I still have shakes at least once a day, with beneprotein, in order to help to get my protein in. The shakes and beneprotein gives me 22grams of protein each time. -
When did you actually feel Restriction with your Fill?
jkend50035 replied to Sommerbrez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not really. I lost most of my weight before and just after surgery. But after my 4th fill, I finally reached the correct restriction, and now the weight is coming off like I had hoped when I got banded. I have some problems now getting all my protein in because I eat very little, but frankly I am just not that hungry. Good luck with that 4th fill!! -

I know this may be controversial, but my wife and I have a small cup of ice cream maybe once a month. I don't consider it cheating, I just need something so that I don't feel deprived. It works for me, but it may not work for others. I am losing weight at a good clip, so I don't worry about it. As far as exercising goes, I think it is absolutely essential if one is to have meaningful and long lasting weight control. Just my 2 cents. -
When did you actually feel Restriction with your Fill?
jkend50035 replied to Sommerbrez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It took me 4 fills to FINALLY have restriction--my Doc likes to sneak up to the "sweet spot". I am now there and I am losing weight consistently now, and it feels good!! Took a long time getting there, but now I'm feeling great and the only thing I have to worry about is getting enough Protein in. Good luck to you--it takes time, but it's worth it!! -
Thanks Lizzyann--since I have the same problem and the same doctor I know I can take otc pepsid--thanks for saving me the appointment!! (He's a good guy isn't he?)

Thanks Jodi--that was like a slap in my face. I hope and pray I can follow the rules you mentioned. I keep saying I'm too tight, but I just don't follow your rules, and some day it will enter my thick head and I will succeed!!
