    approval-aetna

Congrats on your weight loss! You have diabetes..major co-morbidity. I don't have anything except extremely high cholesterol/triglycerides and mild sleep apnea. Aetna says 1 co-morbidity now, but mild sleep apnea isn't a co-morbitiy, only severe sleep apnea. Heck, I'll say a prayer and hope for the best. My doctor said it all depends on "who" is reading the request at the time it gets recieved at Aetna.

    approval-aetna

Hi, I would like any feedback regarding getting pre-approved by aetna for lapband surgery. My bmi is 39, I have extremely high cholesterol/triglycerides, mild sleep apnea that may be causing heart papitations. Do you think I have a chance to get qualified? I have Aetna POS. I've been in the range of bmi 35-39 within the past 4 years. I'm currently on a 6 month diet/exercise program that is being monitored by my doctor. PLEASE send me some feedback and hope! Does anyone out there have a similar situation?

    Sleep Apnea

I have Aetna PPO. My BMI is just shy of 40. I had a sleep apnea test last night, only to realize that I have major sleep apnea issues. I have no co-morbidities. Do you know if this will help me get approved for lapband surgery??

    Aetna - 3mth vs 6 mth

Thank you for your motivational response! I am crossing my fingers and hoping that a letter from my doctor with a detailed medical history will help. I told my doctor that I want to be healthy and I do not want to put a bandaid on my health issues, such as constant meds to keep cholesterol under control. What next? Those meds cost money and they can damage your liver. If I can lose the weight, my quality of life will improve too. I only get to go around once! I'll keep you updated. I really hope my doctor can help get me approved. From what I read, Aetna is a bear to deal with.

    Aetna - 3mth vs 6 mth

Hi, I read your comments and I was hoping you could give me some feedback. I've been searching websites to see if anyone has Aetna POS II and got approved for a lapband with a doctor's letter. I'm in the middle of doing the 3 mo supervised diet, etc. I go to the YMCA to exercise which keeps a log, but my BMI is 38.5. I don't have any co-morbidities that are earth shattering other than extremely high cholesterol and triglycerides. My joints hurt when I exercise, but I persist! My hips and knees always let me know I've overdone it. I haven't been tested for sleep apnea, but I don't think I have that either. I am pre-diabetic with a strong history of it in my family. I've been severely obese for at least 5 years. I feel like I'm doing all this only to be turned down. What were your qualifications?
  10. My BMI is 38.8 with no co-morbidities. I have Aetna POS II. I'm currently doing 6 month diet with my PCP, but I feel as if I'm wasting my time. I have extremely high triglycerides/cholesterol, but that's about it other than BEING OBESE. Does anyone have any thoughts or positive stories to share? My hips/knees have been aching and I blame it on the weight. I exercise every other day at the YMCS (documented). I've been fat all my life. I'm praying for a miracle that Aetna will approve me in 5 months.
  11. I am in the same situation. Did Aetna ever approve the lap band surgery for you?
