Hi I had Gastric Bypass 4 years ago, lost 120 pounds, kept it off. Now in the past year I have noticed that I have been getting extremely sleepy after most meals. In the evening its ok because I just head to bed, but after lunch, at work, it can be a bit of a problem. The effect only lasts for 30-40 minutes, but I'm so groggy I can barely function. Is it dumping? Sometimes I feel flushed and my heart is a bit fast, but It happens for all food, with sugar or not.. Is it age, I'm 62 now.. Something else? Anyone else have similar issues?

Took about a year but it passed.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

So today was unusually hot and I took my daughter to get ice cream at Baskin Robbins. I couldn’t resist and got myself a very small cup (2 oz) of Jamoca Almond Fudge. I have been really good and have lost 65 pounds in two and a half months. So I ate the ice cream slowly and didn’t eat the almonds. I braced myself for a bad reaction but nothing happened. Does that mean I’m not a dumper? Or is dumping a random thing?

Today is my three month anniversary. I can now eat solids! Doing ok, still rare occasional foamies, to avoid it I now watch the second hand on the clock and time each bite. Lost 52 pounds, mostly everywhere but my stubborn tummy. What I’m looking forward to is being to eat salad. Anyone out there have any problems with lettuce? I’m a little nervous about it as it seems like it might be hard to digest. Also every time I try something new I get nauseous after the first bite, then after a few minutes it goes away. Then after that if I eat the new thing again it doesn’t happen. It’s almost like my stomach is deciding if it wants to accept or reject a new food. Any one experience that? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Foamies are the worst! Last night I ate some meat it didn’t chew well enough and I guess it got stuck, because I threw up foam for 6 hours and even water wouldn’t go down. Finally it cleared, terrible experience! I read some people saying that papaya enzyme will help. I hope it doesn’t happen again, but I’m definitely going chew better from now on!!!

Hey I’m a teacher too! Middle School. Regarding peels, I ate cherries successfully but I would be cautious, it’s seems to a day by day thing. Some days are better than others. Yesterday my stomach hated everything and I could barely eat. I hope this goes away eventually.

Thanks for all the info. I don't know yet if I will dump or not, but I'm not going to push it. At two months cherries seem ok, but I have to spit out a little of the skin (sorry..) but 9-10 is max my stomach will allow. I have had the foamies a couple times, I have a bad habit of eating too fast, but know I watch the clock and wait a minute between every two bites, that seems to help. I'm going up to Napa for my birthday in July, I hope by then my stomach will be a little less sensitive by then.

So I want to know more about this dumping thing. When I was getting ready for surgery my doctor never mentioned anything about it, and none of the information he gave mentioned it either. A couple months before my surgery I started reading about it in forums like this one, and it seems like an awfully major thing to not mention. So I brought it up to the some of my doctor's nurses and all I got was cagey non-answers. So I had the surgery, doing pretty good, getting in the protein and water groove and lost 45 pounds in 5 weeks. BUT I'm sacred to death of dumping and this casts a shadow over trying anything new. I ate 4 cherries the other day because they were so good, but I worried the whole time because someone on this site said they dumped on cantalope. I was fine with the cherries, btw. I'm worried that I may be at work or awya from home and have a bout of dumping which would be really bad. What I want to know is: 1. Do ALL gastic bypass patients dump? 2. What is the riskiest thing to eat: sugary things (including fruit) or oily stuff? 3. What if you were away from home and dumped? Has anyone experienced this? I'm not planning to binge on sweets or grease, I'm happy with my wait loss and want to continue it. I just want some answers so I don't continue to be so fearful about eating. Thanks for any imput!!

Possible stricture and the dressed foamies

Wow, so sorry to hear that!! I hope you feel better soon, sounds like your doctors are taking good care of you. I understand the regret, but look to the future, buying new smaller clothes, being healthier overall. Take care! -
Hi: New to this site, thanks for any imput. I am fighting the post op blues still and I am learning what I can and can't eat, soft food wise. I am experiencing sort of a wave of nausea when something hits my stomach, it usually goes away, except once when I didn't chew enough, then it came back. Anyone experience this? Anyway I sort of dread eating now, and I had a really hard time even getting near the 500-700 calories a day my doctor recommended. (I'm sure this has been asked many, many times before) But will I ever enjoy eating again? I'm not hungry but it is difficult to see others eat things I use to love, and this adds to my feelings of depression and regret. I'm sure this will change but it would help to hear from others. Thanks!

Yesterday I had scrambled eggs, a strawberry banana protein shake, 3oz salmon and 1/3 cup shredded cooked zucchini.

Possible stricture and the dressed foamies

Hey we are Bariatric twins! My surgery was on 3/29 too! Having some of the same issues, hope you take care of the stricture! Yeah, if I try something that upsets my stomach, its back to the shakes, it has become almost a comfort food now, since I also kinda hate eating. I have been assured by the helpful people on this website, and my doctor that by three months things will be much better and eating will be less burdensome. Its a journey.. -
Thanks, that was helpful. I think we all can agree it’s a STEEP learning curve!
