Much better than the past couple of days! Eating/drinking is still a bit of a struggle. I'm doing the small sip thing and somehow still inhaling enough air to burp after every swallow. How about you? -

My surgeon said I could be outpatient depending on how I feel, but mine was at noon and the anesthesia absolutely didn't leave my system for hours, definitely not in shape to leave early, even with a family member. I hated my hospital stay but I'm glad I had it. Not saying you should lie, but definitely stress to the RNs if you're feeling pain and discomfort. -

Surgery was a success Tuesday afternoon! Spent the night at the hospital and that felt a little rough. They offered me broth and water, but every time I tried either I'd get nauseous. I only slept 2hrs at a time bc I kept having to pee and I couldn't get comfortable in the hospital bed. Luckily I was able to go home Wednesday late morning. People were texting me and I couldn't concentrate on even holding my phone because my body felt weird. Being home feels better. I'm very independent, and I had my aunt and a cousin doting on me and asking to help, which felt wrong to me lol. But my bed at home is bigger than the hospital bed and doesn't do that inflatable thing the hospital one does for bed sores. Getting comfy is still difficult, and I'm a side or tummy sleeper so it once I got home to a million pillows I tried my sides. Left at first was a no go, I assume that's the side where my stomach is sutured. Right side felt better and it took like 4 long naps in-between using the bathroom and returning text messages. I'm not sure if it's gas pain in my neck and shoulders, or from being stretched out weird during surgery, but my neck and shoulders are very tight. When I was in the operating room before anesthesia knocked me out, they had both my arms extended to the side and where strapping them down. I have a rotator cuff problem that comes and goes and it feels like it's back, which is why I think it's from being stretched weird. But I kept walking around my room to try to get rid of it if it was gas. I actually watched the first half of the fellowship of the ring while pacing around, so that's at least an hour lmao. Chewed two gasx tablets. Eating also is a little weird. At my hospital breakfast I was able to get down a little cream of chicken and water, and didn't fell nauseous, but I couldn't tell if I was feeling hunger pains or full pains. When I got home I had some protein water, then after a couple of naps I very slowly ate 2oz of jello. I had some bone broth with added protein powder for dinner, but not a lot because it made me nauseous, I'll try tomorrow without adding extra protein and see if that changes anything. I took a disolvable anti nausea but honestly that made it worse. It's almost 5am here in SoCal, not sure what woke me up but at least I'm with it enough to type out this long report hahah. -

Made protein jello! And protein pudding, but I was dumb and used pistachio flavor...which has tiny pistachio pieces. No one else in the house will eat it, so I guess I'll be picking them out. -

Maybe you can explain to them that you get nervous and to check it a second time? I've gotten high blood pressure reads twice in my life and both were from running late and stressing about it, both times they let me do it again after maybe 5 minutes and everything was normal. -

I'm off my birth control for surgery, and guess what decided to show up today. Before BC, I'd have a very long, heavy, and painful period, hopefully that won't happen again. Surgery is Tuesday. 😫 -

Oh yeah I did have a psych eval and a nutrition class, but that was part of pre-approval. It was recommended that I go to a support group / class run by nutritionist, but the zoom times are all when I'm at work, and they said it wasn't mandatory. I did have a last consult with my surgeon, but it was the same thing I've heard a million times and I didn't have any questions because I've done so much research, then he just kind of pressed on my stomach and was like "yeah you're good" -

If y'all have never done a dexa scan, I highly recommend them! I got my first dexa scan in May, with the scan showing my total mass at 216.9lbs, my fat mass 99.2lbs, lean mass 111.5, my visceral fat 3.10lbs, and my body fat 45.8%. Yesterday I got a new scan, and I weigh more at 217.2lbs but my fat mass went down to 92.4, lean went up to 118.9lbs, my visceral went down to 2.31lbs, and my body fat is now at 42.5%. The tech that performed the scan was like "the scale is a liar, you're doing great!!" Which was really nice to hear, I'll definitely be getting a scan done every few months to see more than what the scale can tell me. -

The differences are so interesting to me! My program seems pretty hands off as well, but they did have me do a swallow test, chest x-ray, blood work, and an ekg. They'll call me at the end of the week for my covid test. I didn't get sponges but was sent a bottle of antimicrobial soap for the night before and day of. They'll also call me the day before for a check in time. -
My surgeon didn't prescribe a ppi?
loli_lotus posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey! I had a final appointment with my surgeon last week, just really going over the same stuff, that I did all the requirements and that I'm starting the recommended vitamins. He said he was sending a few prescriptions to my pharmacy, and I was like okay cool, expecting like pain meds and a ppi, because I seen so many people here saying they're on them. What he prescribed was docusate sodium (for constipation), ondansetron odt (for nausea), and hydrocodone (for pain). Should I be worried that he didn't put in for a ppi? I was under the impression that even without a history of reflux, it's needed to protect the healing tummy. -

Mine is still in my Amazon cart along with a pill organizer, an ab binder, and extra wide calf compression socks. I should probably place that order lol. -

I love when people post research! Have you looked at Orgain Clean Protein shakes (not the powder)? It doesn't specify what kind of protein, just grass-fed milk protein concentrate, do you think that mean it has casein too? -

Thank you everyone! -
Hey all! Still pre-op, but I was looking at buying Isopure's infusion whey protein powder to add to my water for a protein boost, and I noticed the third ingredient is citric acid. I looked around here and Google and people say citric acid is bad for our stomachs post surgery, but lots of people also say they drink crystal light, which like the first ingredient is citric acid.I looked at my post op meal plan paperwork and it says no acid liquids (specifically naming orange juice, tomato juice, coffee, and tea) but then on the list of things I can have, it says I'm allowed sugar free crystal light. If they're saying crystal light is okay, Isopure's powder should be okay too, right?

Mine is: Pre-op: 1 day before surgery - clear liquids only, ie water, clear broth, fruit flavored drinks, plain/flavored gelatins, smooth fruit iced or popsicles, protein water. Possibly 2 ounces of milk of magnesia. Post op hospital: diet cranberry juice, fortified protein gelatin/drinks, protein supplement drinks. Stage 1 (wk 1-3): low-carb low-fat protein drinks pre-made or powder, non fat or 1% milk, unsweetened soy milk, sugar-free non-fat pudding, sugar-free low carb yogurt or plain kefir, strained reduced fat cream soup, strained broth soup, sugar-free crystal light, gelatin, popsicles, herbal tea. Stage 2 (wk 4-6): eggs, soft tofu, protein drinks from stage 1, low carb Greek yogurt, plain kefir, cottage cheese, other soft cheeses, sugar-free non-fat pudding or custard , reduced fat cream soups pureed chunks, pureed soups, non-fat refried beans, pureed Tuna or chicken salad, pureed soft cooked non-gassy vegetables, unsweetened applesauce, pureed soft fruit with no seeds or skins. Stage 3 (permanent lifestyle) : continue to take in fluid and protein goals, gradually introduced solid foods one at a time, chew all foods until smooth and the consistency of applesauce. Then it gives a bunch of foods to limit or minimize for lifelong healthy eating, but it's mostly non brainers like fried foods, high fat meats, ice creams, french fries, granola bars, large portions of fat etc. It does say avoid gas forming vegetables unless they don't bother me, or stringy vegetables like celery and asparagus unless they're cut into small pieces. -

My paperwork says I can have eggs and soft tofu for pureed, so I'll probably try to soft scramble eggs with cheese. Small curd cottage cheese will probably also be my friend, as I already love it and plan on making it sweet with pureed fruit like peaches or savory with mustard or hot sauce. Refried beans thinned with chicken broth, Greek yogurt, and mashed cauliflower or potato cheddar soup with added unflavored protein powder are some ideas. I once ate at a place that had pureed carrots with cinnamon and maybe I'll try recreating that. Maybe shredded to hell crock pot chicken??? Just remember if you add protein powder to anything hot, it will ball up and curdle, so you have let it cool and slowly mix it in.
